Yes, it's awesome. Be sure to get the unit activation card set, too. I've posted several things about it

I was on the fence, but the background and factions didn't appeal to me at all.
Normally I'd buy the rules anyway as I love games that have unit creation mechanic, but 50 bucks is more than I want to put down for a set of rules that might not see much play anyway. Especially when I already have SBH.
Still might pic it up sometime if I find a good deal.

Games pretty fun.
You can make up your own factions, as well.
I made up about five or so.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money. |

Thats the conclusion Ive come to. I dig the fluff for Fanticide, but thats about all. The factions are kinda "meh", and th minis are wanting, especially for the cost. Our house fave is SoBH, and its open enough to allow the use of any fluff, and we already own and know the rules, so for now we will be sticking with that. Id love to have a copy of Fanticide to read more about the universe, but with the rules unlikely to see use, I just cant justify the books cost at this point. Will be keeping an eye out for a good sale for sure though.

My hope is that it gets released as a PDF. Fanticide does fills a niche that seems to be hard to find. That is a fantasy game that is:
-Squad v squad (not ranks)
-Squad activation (not every figure acting alone)
-Platoon size (20-40 figs rather than warband or mass battle)
-Generic with a unit creation mechanic (most games like this have set army lists)
Right now a few of the members of the club are looking at modding SBH or possibly using WarEngine (there's fantasy lists at the yahoo group) in order to fight battles that fit the above criteria.

My game group thoroughly enjoys Fanticide. The system is elegant, fast, intuitive and interactive. The background and setting is quite imaginative and conducive to creative warband design. Plus it has blood-drenched unicorns.
We love that it is D10, and that activation is shuffled-card based with the addition of a unique event each turn. In addition, blank official cards are included to create your own cool events.
we get a huge kick from the game's sense of humor. The new Blood Tree Warband (which, like all expanded material, is free on PDF) has an ability called Mourning Wood LOL. The game is just a hoot, and we're fully on board. I use minis from the Hell Dorado as well as Reaper and Games Workshop lines, and the creator of the company will hop on their forum and give your props for a nice paint job -- on figures from another company that you are using in their game. That, to us, is a breath of fresh air.
Their unique way of offering different scenarios for every game based on a simple D10 roll is immensely innovative.
Aspects such as the Insanity Table and Vice of Hunger keep matches cinematic and entertaining.
Alien Dungeon has their heart and company philosophy in the right place.
They seem to be a group of highly experienced game designers that have hung up their corporate ties and are now instead making and playing the games they have always wanted to.
If their upcoming game All Quiet on the Martian From contains a rule set as good as Fanticide, I think it will make an strong impact in the table-top scene. Fanticide is a bit niche in her whimsical appeal; once a player will open their mind to a setting as enjoyable as Nowhere, however, then Fanticide hooks them quick.
Give it a chance -- the rule book is fine quality for the price and the card pack is a unique dynamic in the game.
Automatically Appended Next Post: P.S.
I posted a detailed first battle report when we were just beginning to geek out on the system:

I've been lucky enough to play Fanticide semi-regularly and it's now my game of choice. We've been playing 700+ points games which last most of a very enjoyable evening. The background by E. Skye Chaney is first rate. I'll be honest, at first I found the official races and background too unfamiliar to my mind. It's very original! I have been using elves and orcs and such as points of reference in every fantasy rpg or table top game I've played for so long, it was a bit difficult for me to absorb the bizarre and macabre Fanticide world of Nowhere. But having bought the book already, I read a bit everyday and fell under the spell of the author's weird and wonderful vision of a truly unique game setting.
If you don't like the five official races, rest assured that Nowhere is big enough to have that warband you really want. Pretty much any fantasy or pre-modern historical models can be used with the custom Warband creation system. You can play the natives, or you can play displaced explorers and marooned adventurers of whatever your imagination can make of the thousands and thousands of miniatures available to the gamer today! Believe me, it's incredibly fun to make your own homicide squads!
I'll never run out of ideas for new Warbands, and the small warband sizes means I can collect and paint each Warband rather cheaply and rather quickly When you get tired of an old favorite, swap it with a friend My next warband will be a small squad of Sisters of Battle supported by Reaper battle nuns. (Yes Sisters of Battle are Sci-Fi, there is a way to do this though!)
I love my hardback rulebook. It's classy, gorgeously illustrated, and wonderfully written. But I do admit that I think a paperback version of the rules would go a long way to making the game more accessible. Without 'instant recognition' races on the cover or in the stories, I think 'Fanticide' takes a little time to really appreciate, and people are more likely to gamble on a purchase for a cheaper price naturally.

I really like what Ive seen of the background so far. Not super interested in the official races from a playing standpoint.
My wife and I already have a ton of miniatures from other games so that end is covered. Its just a matter of having a spare $50 for the book. Someday.

Just found a guy selling the book and cards for $35 shipped so I took the plunge. I'll report back with my impressions when it arrives.
I really wish there was a softcover or PDF version available. Even if the game is awesome, a $55 buy-in is going to be a non-starter for getting the group to consider it as an option for our summer fantasy skirmish campaign.

I love the concept for the game, but I just don't like the official models. The $50 buy in for the rulebook is tough too. It sounds like a really great system in a fun setting. When I get some spare cash I want to check this out.

Don't think so, it was just a marketplace ad on TMP. He was asking $40, but I usually consider asking price a starting point unless it's something that someone else is probably going to snap up.
Sorry.

I would say if you can get the Rulebook and Card Deck for $50 with shipping, it's a good deal. It's a full color, high quality rulebook. Plus it's a great game.
It's honestly so very easy that you might not need more than one copy for several players.

agreed. Plus all expansion material rules beyond the core rulebook, such as the recently released new unit for the Fae or the Blood Tree Warband are free online from the company. $55 for a full beautiful rule book, the deck of necessary cards and future accessible online pdf support is hard to beat IMO.
Plus, as stated above, it is a wonderfully fun and creative game.

Got the rulebook a couple days ago. Looks very nice. The rules themselves are really easy to understand and should produce a fast game.
I am pleased that it seems to handle squads well and have a more detailed magic phase which are two of the things I liked least about SBH. On the other hand, There are only 4 army lists -whereas SBH gives you profiles for many races- So you have to make your own lists for all traditional fantasy races.
Still it looks like a great game. Unfortunately my package was broken open in the mail so I received no cards. Doesn't bother me too much as I was going to end up making cards for my own homemade factions anyway, but I am wondering about the event cards. How many cards were in the deck for each event?

If you're looking to play a warband-with-squads game with generic unit creation in a soft-sci-fi setting, then Warengine (rules free at the yahoo group) might be a better choice.

Ive already got the 1st & 2nd edition books of Shockforce (Warengine).
Kinda a bummer about Fanticide. Seems the fantasy only aspect will be knocking it way down on the list of things to get. What I need is a game that can incorporate things from all kinds of settings and timelines. So far Warengine is looking like the best option.
