I reckon you could use both/either. I'm sure Orcs aren't fussy about cutting down small or large trees when it suits their needs. Humans certainly aren't!

Thanks everyone for the feedback

I will probably go with the larger planks as that's the type of barn I grew up in. Yes Theo was raised in a barn . From the time I was 8 years old till I was 18 I worked 40hours or more a week for my family's (cousins) landscape supply business. Wake up at 4 am, go to "the farm" work a couple hours, shower head to school, get picked up by my uncle and head to the farm for 4-5 hours, go home shower and sleep for 5-6 hours then repeat. I enjoyed it, still prefer a job where I can get sweaty over a desk job any day of the week. The Barn i "lived" in was over 100 years old, rock footings held up posts made from debarked trees, all the walls were 12" or wider planks that were 20' long floor to roofline one piece. You don't see that anymore due to trees not surviving that long anymore before being chopped down and cut up. I'd drive out one day to snap a picture of the barn but it was leveled about 2-3 years ago by a tornado winds. My cousin didn't rebuild it as his business insurance wouldn't cover the complete cost, so he sold the lumber from it to a lumber reclamation company that looks for old wood like that and uses it in new construction.

All this talking about it has me wanting to build a replica of it , that would be huge.....not as big as Viks leviathan build, but it could probably give his little tank some cover .

I'll need to go get some more of those planks, I bought them a few years back at hobby lobby I believe, so hopefully they will have something similar.

In the mean time I picked up some green wash and a new terrain piece on my way to work yesterday.

Way watcher green gw. I've got all these orcs to do and never had green wash

The terrain bit is a new one from the reaper bones line. It's a weapons locker, but the back side looks like a plain old crate to me. It's hollow underneath to hold hidden objectives and the paint pot fit nicely inside it with room for almost a second pot with it (both laying down of course....that sounds dirty ).

only a wee bit of it would be covered by ANY barn...

and i think living in a barn... gets pretty cold in the winter...or am i wrong here?

that piece looks interesting...tho i am not really able to tell what it is supposed to be and how it works... looks like a container... can you open it? but who in that scale could operate it?

It is a container, but it doesn't actually open it. It's supposed to be a weapons transporting crate with biometric lock set on one end. It opens and the martini dispenser pops out. Just like in the iron man movie.

I didn't actually live in the barn, but we ground up tree bark turning it into mulch and then bagged it and stacked it on pallets. Long tedious work. The wind did come between the planks easily enough, but so did the heat. Many 100 degree Fahrenheit days spent in the barn sweating.

Bah. I've done landscaping for awhile but not for *that* long Not envious either

I've got a couple of the weapon crates, they aren't bad at all. I wish the shipping containers sold for that rate... but if wishes were fishes and all that... Still a nice bit of terrain to have around.

Are you doing shading on your Orcs? Cause Waywatcher Green doesn't really work that way. You would have been better off with Biel-Tan Green for that. Or Athonian Camoshade.

I think you can kind of use glazes like washes, but they aren't quite as good for darkening the crevasses so much as tinting the color in general, if I'm thinking correctly?

I'm just looking at using it to blend the greens together better. I start with a dark green base and work up from there, just want to soften the drybrushing.

Thanks Vik, good to know I don't have a problem......

Well I primed them already, and immediately started to paint them, well one of the fatties. The primer I used must be bad, or I didn't wait long enough....or humidity as after the first base coat dried it cracked and I got white crackle throughout the model. So second basecoat applied...it cracked too. So third basecoat applied....it caught fire, burnt, fell over and sank into the swamp, but the fourth basecoat (good thing she was a fattie to begin with ) will have to wait till tomorrow as its off to work I go.

@Vik, sorry, my lack of explaining trikes again. As the primer continued to dry it caused the paint to crackle. No liquid green stuff needed, just needs more than the 4 coats of paint and 2 washes I gave her. You can see in the picture that there are some small crackles left on her orange dress and on her legs. She's laying down now since she hard a large meal.

@Dr. H, the Zombicide: Black Plague kickstarter is finishing in a few days, there next stretch goal announced this morning is a not certain monty Python knight who knows how to identify witches.
@Grimdork, true Dat. Still fighting the urge to go buy all three copies of toxic city mall they had at 1/2 price. All those zombies for $90, plus extra tiles and stuff too, but I think I have a plan for these zombies....not very cunning, but hopefully fun. I don't want yo start the contemporary Zombicide collection as the BP looks so good and I'm going to get that instead.

Painted a couple runners this morning, nothing to write home about, but DakkaDakka gets a write up...and pic

Affton, MO. USA

Well the runners are zombies, I just need to zombify them some....and better pictures. We've been getting serious rain here for weeks, high water levels and some flooding, including some flash flooding in areas, so humidity might have been the problem. You know besides me painting before the primer is even dry .

Also big question to the crew (anyone who stops by here that counts you as well)

The end of July marks the opening of the Conan pledge manager from the kickstarter. I've already dropped a bunch of money into it, now the question is
1 do I get a King pledge and one of each kickstarter exclusive figure (will get me about 200+ figs, some large ones),
2 or do I put in a little more and get a king and barbarian pledge ( over 400 miniatures )

Check it out over in the kickstarter.com the look for Conan: hybornean quests boardgame (some of those figure numbers represent furniture like tables and chairs , but it's still like 140+ figures and the rest of the 200 is the furniture. All plastic the same as dust tactics.

ok....looked through...

well... you will have to hide a lot of models... boy... so many nice and healthy girls....

hmmm... the individual models look very good... the furniture is promising... and the monsters (of these i haven´t seen that much...) are promising too... where i see a bit of a problem (for me) would be the plethora of mono pose models...but that is something you have to cope with... so i think this is my major factor for decisions...

Well monopole will be fine especially if I can find a use for them in Kings of War as that would help them rank up nicely. If you look in the updates section of the kickstarter they have been showing off all the models there. I'm at work right now so it's hard to bring pics over on my break time and on my iPhone, but the Thaug model is enormous.

that is an ugly fether...and a huge one to boot^^

i am a bit lost in all thngs concerning conan...i´ve read the rather old eighties comics of course, but never truly getting the hang of these...

the KOW armies of yours also would be the only use for these...from my point of view... with all that AoS stuff about i think a new fantasy playset is the only way to avoid stupid deathstar fantasy.
how do the conan models fair in comparrision to KoW stuff in mini to mini pricing?

Affton, MO. USA

It's been a really long time (25+years) since I've read some of the Conan stuff. I keep forgetting to try and grab them from the library when we take the kids twice a week.

Price wise the Conan king pledge was $135, and came with 74(ish) models but got over 100 models in the stretch goals (including furniture, and huge free models like Thaug, and 10 tentacles to use with him) so way less than $1 a figure that route. But there are so many different models in there that rank and file troops aren't going to be very common. Kings of war stuff is darn cheap too, especially if you buy the bigger boxes or wait for kickstarters. Usually around $1 a figure, but no where near as nice in my opinion as these models.

I'm really torn as to my future fun stuff.(kickstarters I have coming)

Creature caster is finally in the last legs of producing and I have locked my pledge in for that (mountain dragon, and Warrior Demon)
Kings of War 2, I just did the $50 pledge, so hardback rulebook, softback rulebook and Blaine on a dinosaur. Plus counters and stuff.
Dungeon Saga: dwarf kings hold, I got the basic pledge, but there's a ton of models including a dragon
Zombicide: Black Plague, still wrapping up now but still a ton of models for gaming and should be same scale as Conan and Blood Rage
Blood Rage, right at about a 100 models, some rather larger nasty monster to boot.
Conan....undecided, but probably leaning towards the king pledge and a barbarian pledge (400+ items)
MODcubes, I have five sets of these coming, and a cunning plan for them....hopefully.

Most of these would make great D&D figures, but with Blood Rage, Conan and Dungeon Saga all being board games, along with Zombicide I think I'll have plenty to do besides mass battles. Plus some of these can make great warbands for Mordheim andAlchemy.

I'm also in the Creature Caster boat. Ughhh taking forever! I think his brain may have fallen out once he got funded lol. On the plus side, count yourself lucky that you're not in the AvP Kickstarter. Wow. What a horrendous mess that was.(though in fairness, Prodos Games are finally rolling out the pledge rewards to backers!)

Yeah I'm glad I skipped that one. I'm learning some kickstarter lessons....the hard way. I've dealt with jeremy before, and had difficulties with communications, but it was right before he sold his last company.

Well like I said I'm not back, just don't have the time, but the ideas are flowing. Zombie related ideas.....and Servo skull ideas , well combining the two . The new idea are the Servo skulls are a crack (pot) team sent in to deal with zombie plagues on imperial worlds. When there's nothing biological left of you then you don't have to worry about catching the zombie plague. So at work last night I got the new army name for the boys.

Angry Servo Skull Hostile Organic Life-form Eliminator Squad (got to love the acronym )

In the mean time some quick fantasy fencing has been started.

Need to make some longer sections for this pig fencing.

And some cattle fencing

Yet all the fencing can't keep the fatties from stealing the food from the picnic tables

@vik, the unit name came first, already had the ASSmarines, now we have the holes to complete their character they really are more of a classic split rail fence than a cattle fence. Just wanted something easy to paint up and create some character for the boards. The posts were left over pieces from another project and I knocked them out in about ten minutes for 12" of fencing.
@graven, I'm thinking of what to do, but no inspiration has hit yet, besides, every time I enroll in a competition I fail out before the end. It would better serve me to hide my shame here in my thread.

The family leaves on vacation on Sunday. They are driving to Michigan with ALL of my family (mom, dad, brother, sisters and brother in law along with my niece). My brother in law was given a vacation allowance for working at his job for 20 years. They decided to rent a house in traverse city Michigan close to the beach that sleeps 12, rent three cars and everyone drive up there. It's a belated 50th anniversary present for my parents. Everyone was sick last year on their anniversary and money was tight, so we had to hold off. I couldn't get time off from work to go along, but I am flying up there on Thursday morning to surprise them before they begin driving back home on Saturday. We will split ways then and me and my clan will drive back and spend a night in Chicago and hopefully see Sheds Aquarium and possibly the natural history museum before driving home on Monday for me to go back to work Tuesday. Don't tell my kids as no one outside my wife, and sister know about me heading up by plane.
