Well got the Open Fire! Box set a couple of weeks ago and had some time last week in the evenings to give some of them a lick of paint.

I decided to start on the US Airborne first as I have all GW colours I needed to do them as closely as possible to the real chaps. I have gone for a Normandy uniform as the campagins we will be playing will be based around the D-day landings and the engagements thereafter.

Really enjoyed the challenge of painting such small chaps, nice to see a unit come together so quickly compared to 40k where you can spend ages just doing one guy!

Sorry for the semi blurred photos found it hard to get the shots in focus with my phone, need to dig out the camera lol.

Great paint job!
Out of interest could you tell me what colours you used?

(My mate is starting FoW too and has GW paints he wants to use on his US Paras.)

That is one of the best Paint jobs I've seen at this scale. You've managed to do with it getting that "Cartoon styling going on". I think the 3 man command stand in particular is brilliant...

Bravo, this is extremely good painting!

Collecting Forge World 30k????? If you prefix any Thread Subject line on 30k or Pre-heresy or Horus Heresy with [30K] we can convince LEGO and the Admin team to create a 30K mini board if we can show there is enough interest!

For the overalls I used a mix of kommando karki and cammo green. Then catachan green for the helmets, grenades and equipment, camo green for webbing and pouches and finally dark brown for the rifle wood and leather. This was then washed and highlighted with the same colours + a bit of white.

Thanks for the comments guys

Damn good job man. Also great to see what models are suppost to go on which bases! That gak is very confusing

At first I was confused with who goes where, but the instructions were pretty good. Once you work out what sort of squads have what its nit too bad.

I have a British rifle company to paint at a later date and that had no instructions for who goes where. Still not 100% sure on NCOs/officers

Excellent paint job on the Paras!

I too had trouble with what guys go where when I bought my first few boxes of FoW

They are magnificent, I think the best FoW infantry I have seen yet.

Having tried these guys recently, can I ask what brushes you use, and do you use a magnifying glass of any sort? Because my eyes and a GW fine detail couldn't do that even if I had the prerequisite hand steadiness and painting talent (which I don't ).

Didn't use a magnifying glass. Brushes used were, gw fine detail and army painter character. I wish I had picked up an AP insane detail brush for the eyed

Excellent job. That absolutely blows me away that people can paint so well at this level.

Thanks for the kind comments chap.

I decided to take some better photos and work on the bases as I feel I have learnt a lot in basing 15mm.

Here is how they look now, as well as a pair of Brit Shermans and firefly from the 11th Armored division (More on the Brit front later)

Painting eyes at 15mm? Just say no

I presume that you have a lot of painting experience? It certainly looks like it.

The prefect example of someone missing the point.
Do not underestimate the Squats. They survived for millenia cut off from the Imperium and assailed on all sides. Their determination and resilience is an example to us all.

Its just a shame that they couldn't fight off Andy Chambers.

It was not that bad to do on the plastics. I have just finished a platoon of British rifles and sadly the molds were not accurate enough to do the eyes.......I am quite glad of this as I would have over 200 eyes to do lol.

I have been painting warhammer stuff for about 20 years on and off, only just getting into 15mm and think I have found a scale where I am actually good at it lol.

Amazing effort for a first go, and glad you didn't try and do the eyes - that way insanity lies!

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

I hate the hard shadow on the mortar, only bad part of an excellent infantry sprue set, I suggest adding a bit greenery just in front of the mortar to conceal that.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.
