I thought you can always wound something on a 6+?

Is this not true?

Not that I've ever heard. Certain rules allow you to wound any model on a fixed number (such as Poison, or rolling a 6 with a rending weapon). However barring special rules, you can only wound up to Strength +3.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
Orks always ride in single file to hide their strength and numbers.

So if a Hive Tyryant or other large monster can get its touhgness to 9 or 10...basically you can't hurt it?

You can only wound something if you're strong enough to so so according to the table.
No such rule, as you describe, exists.

If the thought of something makes me giggle for longer than 15 seconds, I am to assume that I am not allowed to do it.

Probably a faulty conclusion made to be the reflection of the rule that you always fail to wound on a 1.

"If you always fail on a 1, then you should always succeed on a 6." Something like that.

But no, Rending gives the rule that you always wound atleast on a 6.

Some things can shrug off mundane small-arms fire and regular close combat attacks...

That's when you break out the Thunder-hammers and Lascannons (or Eq.)...

Toughness above 7 (can still be wounded by marines with cutlery..) is rare. The only base-T 8 creature i know of is the Wraithlord, and it will likely be dropped to 7 so that marines can wrestle it to the ground

It is possible to get above this with Pysker powers or similar though. The GUO for example can get all the way to T 10 with Iron Arm, making it a real git to take down, as you'd need anti-tank weaponry to have much hope of killing it.

The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts
Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts
GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...
Circle Oroboros - 300 Pts or so
Menoth - 300+ pts

There's plenty of units and equipment that can damage T9 or 10.

For an example, a Space Marine with a Las Cannon Str9 hits it on 4+

Poisioned weapons wouldn't have that much difficulty either.

Unlike Fantasy, there is no always wounds on a 6 rule.

Yes, it is possible for some weapons to be unable to hurt something.

Normal bolters and weaker weapons can't hurt a Wraithlord as you must be Str5 or higher to wound T8.
