Original Post in the spoiler.
Spoiler:
At the Phat Cats gaming club in Leicester there has been talk of starting up an annual 40k tournament, and I have took it on myself to begin the process of getting it up and running, I will be running alongside some of the guys who help start up the Blood and Oil Warmahordes event, which from what I understand is now one of the bigger Warmahordes events in the country, so it will be in safe hands, the event will probably be held late summer so August time, just trying to get a grasp on the level of interest people would have in attending a Tournament in this area?

Edit: Also I know there is very little info given at the moment, but I need to show that there is enough interest in it, to get things rolling.
Ok so the date has been confirmed as the 24th August 2013, the event package will be finalised soon, and tickets will then go on sale

Provisionally, I would be up for this as I just found out today my time in Canada is over. For the next few months I will be camping out at my parents place in Leicestershire.

Ok well as it devolps further I will update this thread with more up to date info, but in the mean time when you are in Leicestershire, and in need of a game PM and I can try sort a game for you at the club, or if I'm back in the country a game with me

Where and what have you been doing in BC? I was there a couple of years ago, did a ski season in Panorama near Invermere, just south of Banff. Looking to go back this winter, but damn Canadian visas are hard to get hold of.

I'd definitely be interested, I'm based near Loughborough. There's likely a gap in the east midlands market now maunsfield is no more.

Have you canvassed on the warhammer forum at all? A lot the uk tournament guys are regulars there.

At Animosity, since the Death of Maunsfeld we've moved to a new venue that just opened in Mansfield Woodhouse, Dreamlike Gaming.

If you manage to get something sorted I'll see if a few of our regular gamers are interested in coming along to represent!

In our experience a lot of the other forums are quite secular... they don't like nor appreciate new things. Feel free to post on our Animosity forum as most of our gamers are in the East Midlands anyway.

Hope it all goes well for you.

Thanks man, really appreciate the input, I'll venture over there and just copy what I have put here to help get the word out, and gauge some interest.

Thanks, might well do that. I'll be back there in the next few weeks, but then we have to wait for the shippers to move my armies home which takes weeks. I've been out here for three years working for Electronics Arts and then Best Buy doe web dev stuff. I hear you re the visas though, it's because of that I have to come back, I've spent since September trying to get an LMO to get a visa and we've had so many delays and screw ups. Because of lack of docs I can't now work nor drive so the last 8 weeks have been hell - no work and no money. At least I can go to a job when I get back, fingers crossed to find one though!

Id be interested Leicester isn't too far, all comes down to the rules pack tho. How many games, points is it comped, missions, scoring, FW allowed etc all those can be deal breakers for some people

Well I'm not back in the country until July, but if you are looking for a club give me a PM on here and I'll point you in the clubs direction, there are great group of guys, and everyone is dead friendly, and there isn't any sort of power gaming meta going on at the club so that's cool.

As for the format, (all this is just a preliminary ideas for now and subject/open to change and opinions from the public) Number of games I'm not sure on yet, still waiting on someone to get back to me when he has done a count on the tables we can put out, but it is a fair amount of tables, and if there is enough interest we can open up a second hall. The points would probably be 1500, keep it a relatively simple points limit for the first tourney. As for the format of the Tournie we would probably be following the same style as the BAO tournament, and FW would be allowed, providing you have the correct books with you, and a list of the current books will be released before the tournament.

As soon as I get the confirmed details I will post them here, the preliminary details are up on the Warhammer forum, under 40k events.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Out of interest, for a single day event, would people prefer a custom mission pack, similar to the BAO, or would they just prefer to stick to the standard missions for a one day event?

This is copied from TWF so you guys can check it out as well

As it's August I would try and set a date as soon as possible due to holidays. Hopefully the Kettering boys will manage to get a few players to come along if the date works. Mission types, I don't think anyone's too fussed as long as they are balanced. If you do have odd numbers of objectives then you do need to make sure they are placed before table edges etc chosen to make it fair for both players for instance.

I would like to get in on this if possible, since I haven't had a game in 7 months. Well since it is in a church I can safely assume there is no Bar?(has happened in the past..) anyway still interested onyl a little over an hour from where i live.

Go with custom scenarios. if you have simliar terrain or roughly similar types you could base it off of the terrain.
Like a reenactment of some famous 40k battle maybe a White Dwarf past idea.
Other ideas:
King of the hill(most half turns held by a troop chocie)
Capture the flag
Hold and defend aka castle siege

Doing a BAO style would be awesome as its something not done in the UK at the moment and would love to give it a go, and with FW being allowed im more than interested in attending just depends on dates.

@Crabpuff, it is a 'church' so to speak, but the only things I have seem go on there are martial arts, wargaming, and old men drinking at the bar, who knows how the Ukranian's practice their religion. On a serious note though, would love to see you come down and join in.

As for the scenarios, they will probably be pairs of the standard mission played simultaneously, check out some of the BAO battle reports if you are unsure about that, but I do like the ideas you have given, and if this event grows, maybe we will introduce a narrative based campaign with custom scenarios at the same event, maybe over two days.

Boomstick wrote:Doing a BAO style would be awesome as its something not done in the UK at the moment and would love to give it a go, and with FW being allowed im more than interested in attending just depends on dates.

@Boomstick, I have previously spoken to Reecius about using the BAO format of missions and he gave me the go ahead, so it is most likely going to be that, the date of the event will most likely be the 24th August, provided the hall is free, this will be confirmed on Thursday evening GMT. So I should have the information out by Friday. If we are really lucky tickets could go on sale sometime next week, once everything else is confirmed with the club committee, and I have finalised the rules pack.

Definitely interested in this but FW is a bit off putting. Hard enough keeping up to date with all the new codices let alone FW malarkey.

Anyone wishing to use Forge World at the event, is required to bring the most recent books there rules are in. And give a brief overview to their opponent, if asked for before the game begins. Also only 40k approved units will be allowed, and no Forge world army lists. This will be all made clear in the event package which I will be finalising today. If you are still worried about the inclusion of FW, check out some of the Adepticon and BAO battle reports around here on Dakka, they both allowed FW units, and the overall consensus from those tournaments, was that it really didn't make a difference, since FW on a whole is much better balanced than codex units anyway. Let me know if you have any other questions about this Hope to see you there.

I'm getting a 40k tournament boner...
Gotta say I don't have much exp against FW only been in the UK less than 2 years and those places I played in the US didn't use them. I am willing to play against them. They add variety and the models are pretty awesome, just don't be suprised if I ask alot of questions about the units and what they can do.

Haha questions are more than welcome and your opponents will have all the rules at your disposal. Can we count on seeing you there then..?

Oh its basically a guarantee, I've been deployed for almost 7 months, not back for a couple more weeks. I'm dying for a tournment. The only thing I have left is deciding if I should paint a 1500pt White Scars force or just go with my favorite ORKS!!!!

Well it's good to hear you'll be coming along to join us then And if it gives you a better idea of which army to bring, there will be a prize for Hobbyist of the Event, that will be decided by a rubric, based on the army with the best painting, modelling and overall theme.

I like Orks.

May bring my gears of Waaagh to the this with the Animosity fellows if I can get a few people interested. I need to practise my Waaagh! skills before we play out the Ullanor Campaign.

What is the info for tickets?

Tickets will be on sale shortly (hopefully this week), the date is confirmed for the 24th August, it will be 1500 points and 3 games on the day. Tickets will be somewhere around the £10 mark, depending on the final costing of the event.

Basically I'm waiting on the club committee to approve the game pack, and set up the ticket site and then we will be live. I will put some pressure on them this week to get it up and running, so we can begin selling as soon as possible.

I really want the hobby to be as much a part of this event, as the games themselves, so it would be really cool to see some of these wicked sounding armies coming down

Thanks everyone for the interest you are showing.

Me and a friend are both just getting back into 40k, and this sounds great; we live a bit further South, but the drive shouldn't be too long. This should also be great motivation to get my 'nids done. It's also A-level results day on the day after so this would be a great way to take my mind off that

I also noticed you said you want the hobby to a part of this as well; that sounds great! Were you thinking have a 'Best Army'? I remember some really great things done with this though, like 'Best Army', then 'Best Conversion'. I've even seen 'Best Army List' once, I'm not sure if that's a regular thing but it was kind of cool, it was basically for having an interesting force (and a well-presented army list).

Anyway, I'll check to see if I can make it, and hopefully be able to get a ticket soon

Although I haven't heard of this BAO style of mission; although I'm on my way to go check it out now

I play:
Imperial Fists - 9000 pts
Tyranids - 1500 pts

GENERATION 9: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your sig and add 1 to the number after generation. Consider it a social experiment.
