It fits the theme of Malifaux, it's a relatable human, he has a sword and gun, and he's pretty much faction-neutral.
Seems like a good choice.

It's a great cover. The only reason that it feels weird is that for so long, Jack Daw felt like the unofficial mascot for Malifaux.

The Desperate Merc art was possibly my favorite in the entire book, so definitely not disappointed, though also a little surprised since he's a little disposable guy instead of a character.

I don't know what I'm going to do with him in 2nd edition, but in last edition, McM would rile him with a cut and a missing organ, the nurse would pump him full of go juice, he'd run around for 10 seconds shooting everything, then McMourning would jump him and grab all of his juicy bits to make a chimera or whatever.

Sonnia used to turn them into Witchling Stalkers. Not quite a Nephlim quality grow list, but it was fun for a time while learning the game.

I've only gotten to play the grow list once or twice, as until last weekend I had to borrow the pieces Took my last few henchman points and got me Lillith's box and a Black Blood Shaman.
On a side note: Forar, have you gotten a chance to play University of Transmortis?

Nope.
I was initially intrigued, but I don't play Ressers, so $35+ for 4 models and a booklet isn't a big draw, especially since apparently the box no longer contains 1.5 cards, so any interest at all is rather contingent on my crew finally figuring out if they want to give 2.0 a shot, stick with 1.5 or abandon the game entirely.
Given that June and July were bad for scheduling and August will be a cluster-shenanigans until Fan Expo is over, we might not resolve that little outstanding matter until September anyway, and even if it's not an entirely negative resolution, we're all pretty gung ho about the Robotech miniatures game that might (MIGHT) come out as early as October/November.
So, basically the same holding pattern I've been in for ages now.
Man, if I didn't hate edition changes before, I do now.
Not necessarily anything to do with the editions themselves, but what they do to my gaming crew.
They get crazy.
I'm glad I didn't have to witness their old Warhammer days. I'm told it... wasn't pretty.

I had been contemplating this as well because I assumed it was coming out before 2nd ed and might just have "generic" Malifaux rules (Patent pending) with basic cards that could work for either ruleset. Though that was before I had seen the changes coming down the pipeline. I was talking about this for a bit with cincydooley, and I think it might be one of, if not the best, way to introduce someone to M2E. With that being said, I'm not too excited to drop 40 bucks on a product I won't be able to use with my current ressers because the Iron Zombies are an edition ahead :-\.

Yeah, I fething hate edition changes, I've only been through the DnD edition changes since 2000, 40k 5th to 6th, and WHFB 7th to 8th, and GW can't deviate too much from their previous editions in the core mechanics, but everything else has been staggering when compared to the previous edition.

What's funny is that I've seen some truly virulent bile spewed between people advocating 3E and 4E D&D, but my old high school gaming crew picked up 3E, enjoyed it, later picked up 4E, enjoyed it, that was it. Sure, I was aware of the 'controversy' in the background through some forum reading, but it was never a big deal.
So when the change was announced and two of my new crew's players effectively donned "The End Is Nigh" signs and began crossing themselves and spitting (figuratively) whenever the topic came up, I was a bit surprised, to put it mildly.
To be really honest, it makes me wary of buying too hard into said Robotech game. I'd rather not toss a big pile of money after something else only to have them decide that when the 2nd edition rolls around they need to bail on it too.

not sure if anyone noticed in the community but gamers are change averse. They want to say "oh i prefer first edition better" as a badge of honor that they were around back when "things were better".
It is not just malifaux look at the 40k/WHFB or any game that goes into a new edition people will hate it without even trying it. Mainly because they do not want to change or learn something new. People will complain they have to buy a new rulebook maybe some cards it goes through the same routine every single time for every single game.
As for myself i played malifaux exclusively for the last couple of years, i all but quit on anything GW related. I still have some old models (who doesn't love orks from the 80/90s era?!) but for the most part stopped my gw addiction.
But even after playing for malifaux so long it became too routine and i haven't picked up the game since last gencon. There were many other factors that lead to this mainly fantasy flights Netrunner and Starwars, video games, board games and so forth.
I see the new edition of any game not just malifaux as a way to re examine what is out there. Maybe some units got a power boost if not on their respective stat cards possibly through new rule interactions and so forth. So come gencon (about 2 weeks from now) I will be picking up the new rulebook because im curious to see the new changes. I am not re buying my old masters or the new kits (not a fan of plastic) but ill just play with what i have and take it from there.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better. |

Check out the stories from the Dead of Winter campaign that took place over the this past Winter, it explains who the new Henchmen are (sorta). Tara is a Henchmen it seems for ressers and outcasts (half that yellow is also green ), she is the Herald of Obliteration. I'm assuming people don't want to get hit by her giant sword and weird claw thing.

It appears that Tara is a new Outcast/Resurrectionist master for M2E. You can find her rules and all the other M2E cards for the set in this free PDF: http://www.malifaux.com/Downloads/Wyrd_Chronicles_Volume_7.pdf
Apparently the "Nightmare" version of the box will only be available during Gen Con.

All models available at GenCon are usually available through Wyrd's Webstore. I don't remember if the Nightmare models are available through the store. I believe they are. PM Lalochezia, he can confirm with certainty.

Usually all the Gen Con models are available from the website only during the dates of Gen Con. I think they extended it one year due to crazy site slowness caused by the heavy traffic from people attempting to get the Nightmare editions..
