evening dakka,

I'm going to be adding a biker captain to my salamanders army and I'm looking for some ideas of what bits to use. the space marine commander model seems like an obvious place to start, though that's what everyone else thinks too so it's hardly unique. I poked around on the GW and FW sites, but no HQ-like models really jumped out at me as good starting points. I want to end up with a model that visually stands out from the other bikers in his unit. I'll likely be running him with artificer armor and a power sword or relic blade, if that helps narrow things down at all.

any suggestions?

The White Scars have some cool conversation packs, might be worth a look at.

Didn't think the White Scars were that talky. But anyway, I'd recommend looking at the DA Ravenwing sprues. Those have quite a few bitz that could be used.

"We train young men to drop fire on people, but their commanders won't allow them to write "feth" on their airplanes because it's obscene!" (Colonel Kurtz in Apocalypse Now)

And you know what's funny? "feth" is actually censored on a forum about a dystopia where the nice guys are the ones who kill only millions of innocents, not billions.

Like people are adding crests on helms to highlight stand out characters, why not add. umm, im not sure what it called but if you look at a skink model you will see a spiny fin above their head, quite like a crest Fitting for a salamander no? or maybe a bit too chaosy looking?

white scars don't have much to offer, sadly. 3 sword arms and combat shields, from the looks of the sprues. raven wing was something I was thinking about. I need to find some pics of the sprues and see what's there. hopefully I can find some interesting bits that aren't too dark angels-y. as for the skink crest idea, I'm going to have to go look up what a skink is first :p might be an interesting look, though.

edit: ok, found some skinks. not sure that's going to work out, but I do appreciate the idea

There's a nice sword arm in the Master of the Ravenwing box.

You can see the ravenwing sprue on GWs site:

http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat860011a&prodId=prod900139a

It looks like there is a pair of robed biker legs there, as well as a torso. Mix-and-match those with other bits and you should get something distinctive. There are also sprue pics of the ravenwing command, but it is hard to make out some details.

The command squad box has some nice looking bits in it as well.

Here are some bad pictures of my Salamander bikes;

Commander - build him an ATV to ride on (lower left hand corner with his command squad)

Chapter Champion - riding a ork bike that I modified
