So, as my post count suggests, I'm fairly new at 40k, I was wondering if you could critique my painting thus fair and provide me with any useful advise I appear to need. No holding back, I can take it, my body is ready.

Also, if you have any conversion/basing ideas I could use to spice up my models, that would be awesome.

I tried my hand at converting this Overlord, notice how I replaced that bloody annoying gauss rod thing on his warscythe with a green rod.

Sorry, I had to colour correct them so the colours are a little off.

Wow. This is quite impressive for a beginner
I especially like the cloak and the OSL. On the immortal though, there doesn't seem to be any light from the crystal shining on the front of his legs.

Also, if you haven't already done so (can't tell from the photos) get a lighter shade of metal and highlight the bits that would look like a light source would shine on.

Really nice work, I'm loving the glowing elements.

I think Far Seer might be right, a few mithril silver highlights might make them pop a bit more but to be honest that might just be the photos.

They look great, now you just need to paint another 100!

Get it painted up though. It's a scientific fact that unpainted models die quicker than painted one's.

Pretty much, I did stick some pieces together such as the very front of the vehicle with the control panels etc, the two halves of each main hull crescent thing, the pilots and the gun but I didn't stick everything together until everything was painted.

those look really good for a first outing.

I would suggest pushing your contrast more with sharper highlights and increasing depth with more shadows, both will push your contrast to provide your models with a snappier look and greater clarity from a distance.

I will say this next part as a "do as I say not as I do" your models would benefit from better photography at least for those of us diagnosing your work on the internet. It may even reveal some contrast that is being washed out in the current pictures.

To me, the look great and you're way beyond where I was as a beginner. Now I would do some deeper washes and go a bit brighter on the edge highlights. Good work.

What do you mean by deeper washes?

Right now I'm wet brushing them with boltgun metal, giving them a badab black wash all over and then highlighting the most prominent edges (collar, spine, shoulder ridges, elbows, knees, hips) with mithril silver.

By deeper wash, I should have said 'deeper shading', but I mean basically loading the well of a reasonably small brush with a dark wash and applying it only to the deep recesses. You can also paint those in, but I do it with washes. In particular I like to hit the corners and creases. Badab black wash doesn't do this as well as GW's old black wash, but it will do with a couple layers.

Isn't Badab Black the old wash? The new one is called Nuln Oil, right?

I have no idea why I said Badab Black seeing as I've only ever used Nuln Oil.
