just thought i would get the public opinion on what is better for their points, Chaos Predators or Chaos Land Raiders.

By my calculations you could equip 2 predators with lascannon turret and heavy bolter sides for 240pts and a land raider costs 230pts so roughly the same.

Predator Pros:
- can target 2 seperate units
- enemy must target 2 seperate units
- 9 additional heavy bolter shots (not twin linked tho)
- alternative weapon options ( i would prefer lascannon sides with autocannon turret for 5pts less)
- additional scoring unit in big guns never tire

Landraider Pros:
- AV14
- transport capacity
- assault vehicle rule
- only gives away 1 kill point in annihilation

what is everyone elses thought / tactics when it come to these units? have i missed anything?

( i am aware they both have different roles so its hard to compare directly but this is more of a general discussion)

I'm imagining he's saying 9 additional shots over the 3 from the land raider. 2 Predators with Heavy Bolter sponsons have 12 shots, while a Land Raider has 3 twin-linked shots. That means the predators have 9 more shots.

You have to look at this differently.

LandRaider= Predator+Rhino

2 tl lc+ tl hb, 14 av all around vs. tl AC+2 LC

Paying 80 more pts you combine a pred and rhino and give it 14av all around. 80pts to not give first blood.

Pred Pros:
The two preds can both move 6" and fire their TL-las at full bs. The landraider must snap one.
For 20 more points each you get lascannon sponsons for more las goodness.

Landraider Pros:
Does not take up a heavy slot if you dedicate it to some terminators.
Could be infiltrated with said terminators by Huron or Ahriman.

A landraider pro must be you don't care which way it is facing. A pred facing the wrong way has naff armour.

Also a landraider can not be glanced to death in close combat by any chap who happens to have S4. They need power gloves to glance it or chainfists/melta bombs to seriously worry it in combat,

This.
CSM LRs are changing your game to a durability game. They mean that your not planning on giving up first blood easily, and AV 14 is still a bear to take down at range.
They also make your squads inside immune to helldrakes -- which can be a perk depending on your local meta.

Did any1 use CSM LR just as Battle tank? Well it's enormous fire magnet(I guess so) so It can be used pretty well to be used as DISTRACTION LAND RAIDER!

Av14. Nuf said. Av14 is awesome, there's plenty that can hurt it but they gotta get close first, that's where the large amount of guns come in, add to all this a LR is the awesome choice...

To add to this, its AV14 all around.
Going from AV13-14 front armor is a bonus but not having weak sides for vector strikes or outflanking side shots and having a strong rear end ( ) to protect against grenade assaults is very valuable.

Atm I run 2 raiders full of berzerkers and lords but im thinking ofsswapping out for 3 predators and 2 rhinos with the zerkers and lords. The problem is if the raiders charge forward the get in melta gun threat range but if they sit back the units inside are wasted.... im just going to buy both options and mix it up between games

ive always had a psychological compulsion to always shoot land raiders, i dont know why, but i cant help myself to not try to kill the brick. I think they are best taken en masse, because that really really will mess with your opponent, especially if you fill them with termies or other nasty CC units. Plus its a reasonably effect anti tank unit with TL LCs.

Not to mention its lots and lots of free cover for your units. If you take 2 land raiders and put them lengthwise facing your opponent whenever they stop you now have a super effective way to block LOS and keep your more fragile units alive that need close range, like noise marines, or even a blob of cultists.

The basic Land Raider does give you sn option to play as a counter to your opponent.

Provide extra firepower against a close range force or add pressure to a gunline. It can do many things fairly well.

If you are playing an assault oriented army take LR otherwise predators...

420 points for 9 las cannon shots versus 460 for 4 shots... j

Mobility is good to go with either but Landraiders are overpriced if you want firepower.

The problem is they fight with obliterators so unless you are planning on presenting an armored wall, oblits are better.
