Subject: Dark Eldar Warlord Traits

I was going to write a table of Warlord Traits for the Eldar, but decided against it as they will have their own table in a few weeks anyway. So, I am going to have a go at the Dark Kin instead! Without further ado: 1. Connoisseur of Pain - The Warlord and his unit start the battle with a single Pain Token (or an extra one if they already start with one) 2. Lord of the Dark City - Any unit led by the Warlord is Stubborn and causes Fear 3. Lightning Assault - The Warlord and his unit may disembark from their vehicle after it has moved 12" instead of the usual 6" 4. Strike at Their Leisure - The Dark Eldar player may decide to force Night Fight for the 1st turn of the game. If Night Fight is already in effect, it extends to the second turn as well. 5. Arena Champion – The Warlord and their unit gain the Shred special rule in close combat 6. Treacherous Assassins - The warlord and the unit he is with gain precision strikes that may even be allocated into a challenge. Ideas though please!! EDIT: - Preferred Enemy removed from Arena Champion - Death From Above swapped for Lightning Assault - Soul Feeder swapped for Treacherous Assassins (credit to Exergy for that gem!) - Shadow Master swapped for Strike at their Leisure (again credit to Exergy) Special Character Defaults: Lelith - Arena Champion Urien - Connoisseur of Pain Lady Malys - Strike at Their Leisure Sliscus - Lightning Assault Decapitator - Treacherous Assassins Vect - May choose his Warlord trait for each game instead of rolling randomly Baron Sathonyx rolls his Warlord Trait either from this table or the rulebook as normal. Drazhar is a fighter not a leader and hence may never be the army's Warlord.

Without further ado:
1. Connoisseur of Pain - The Warlord and his unit start the battle with a single Pain Token (or an extra one if they already start with one) (Urien Rakarth default)
2. Lord of the Dark City - Any unit led by the Warlord is Stubborn and causes Fear (Vect default)
3. Death from Above - Once per game, all Dark Eldar skimmers may choose to go into zoom mode as if they were a Flyer (Sliscus default)
4. Shadow Master - The Warlord and his unit gain the Hit and Run and Stealth Special Rules
5. Arena Champion – The Warlord and their unit gain the Preferred Enemy and Shred special rules in close combat (Lelith default)
6. Soul Feeder – The Warlord gains Eternal Warrior
I admit I was running out of ideas by the time I got to Soul Feeder as I didn't want to use abilities from existing special characters like Malys' redeployment rule.
Ideas though please!!
arena champion sounds a little too effective, one of those would be sufficient. Actually most of them are too powerful
Connoisseurs of Pain - The warlord and the unit reroll failed FNP saves.
Strike at their leisure - Night fighting turn 1. If the mission would normally have night fighting turn 1, night fighting on turn 2 as well.
Death From Above - Units within 6" of the warlord can have skyfire if they want.
Slavers - Units within 12" of the warlord gain PE one unit chosen by the player at the begging of the game.
Webway assault - At the beginning of the game the player can place a webway portal anywhere not in the opponents deployment zone.
Treacherous Assassins - The warlord and the unit he is with gain precision strikes that may even be allocated into a challenge.
Vect can choose
Decapitaor: Treacherous Assassins(even though he cannot join a unit...)
Lady Malys: Slavers
Duke: Death From Above
Urien: Connoisseurs of Pain

Here are my ideas...
1. Once per game, the warlord can choose to share his pain token effect with units(with the power from pain rule) within 6" of him, effect lasts until the start of the warlord's next turn. (Urien)
2. Once per game, the warlord can reduce his opponent's WS by D3 during a challenge, effect lasts until the end of the assault phase. (Vect)
3. If the warlord is in a challenge, the warlord and his unit gains 1 bonus attack. (Lelith)
4. The warlord and his unit can assault the turn they arrive from reserve. (Sliscus)
5. "Strike at their leisure", exactly the same idea as Exergy's... (Malys)
6. The warlord and units within 12" can add 3" to their charge distance. (Drazhar)
Not very good with names...

Out of the three posted here I like this one the best. But I do agree with the Exergy, I would just reduce Arena Champion to Shred special rule.

I think the one OP has will make Sliscus a default choice for HQ as that warlord trait is kinda insane.
Even though it's once per turn it basically gives the DE the survivability for all of its assault unit to get close enough to assault without risking too much about it.

I would have gone with PE rather than Shred.
Shred is already a combat drug that archons, succubi, wyches, hellions, blood brides, and reavers get 16% of the time. Thus if you rolled this you could end up getting nothing. 1/6*1/6 = 1/36 ~=3% of the time
PE is only availible in the DE book via Vect
While PE works in shooting, it is generally worse as DE are generally already hitting on 3s(where the rerolls dont help much) and wounding on 5s in close combat(where rerolling only 1s is worse than rerolling all fails)

So if Drazhar is the only HQ you take, then who is your warlord?

Thanks for pointing that out Necrosis, I would say that in order to use Drazhar, you would have to take a second HQ to be the Warlord.
It may sound silly, but it does have a fluff justification as Drazhar is described in the DE codex as having no interest in leading warriors, he only exists to kill.
There is a precident for it in 40K as well; the Eldar Wraithseer cannot be the compulsory HQ in an Eldar army.
I know that is Forge World, but it is still there.
I take it you believe this restriction should be taken out?

Take it out, Kheradruakh is in the same boat as Drazhar and 2 HQ choices that could not be warlord would be a bit much. To represent it anyway you could give them a rule with something like 'As long as there is a second HQ in your army Drazhar/Kheradruakh can not be your warlord."

I think you are giving too much power to the warlord trait, even with the downgrades you added I dont think ive seen a warlord trait list with nearly so many good options as this, the worst of these is equivalent to the 1-2 best in any other list, which normaly have 1-2 option which are barely worth anything. I wouldnt mind it if all other warlord trait were at this level (actually I would prefer it) but they really arent so maybe a bit more downgrades are required to keep them at the level of other warlord lists maybe making the lord of the dark city only give fear not stuborn and fear, and make strike at their own leisure be on a 4+ or 3+ instead of a for sure thing, treacherous assasin could only work for people that already have precision strikes (characters)

The rulebook strategic table has an option for guarenteed nightfighting. While this is more powerful as if the mission already calls for NF it affects turn 2 the 3 codexs so far have tables that are better than the rulebook.
Restricting the precision strikes to only characters completely invalidates the rule, as the character is going to be already in the challenge. If you want to tone it down, just give the warlords unit Precision strikes(which is pretty weak).
