Hi Dakka!

I took up 40k about a year ago and accidentally fell into Necrons, who rock as an army. Plenty of different options, different ways to play at just about any points level. Played games against different armies (Nids, Tau, Eldar, DE, and of course various flavours of SM).

About a month ago I decided I needed a bit of a break from the Crons and decided on a SM army for a change. Picked GK (mainly because of the DK models!) and have played a couple of lower point (500-750pt) games.

I like my GK army and I have a lot of work to do to get to the bottom of the options in the codex. But....deep down, I have this feeling that no matter what I do, my GK won't keep me interested - because they are SM. I have this feeling that SM are, well....bland. But, mention DE, Nids, etc and I get much more excited.

I've just realised that I'm a Xenos player. Nothing wrong with SM based armies but really much more interested in anything Xenos.

What about you, and why?

edits to fix the headings - forgot Chaos!

I am mostly a xenos guy as well. In my time I have played Orks, Eldar, CSM, SW, Daemons and Tau.

The only army that has held my attention over all these years is Eldar (I still have the army). I do like Dark Eldar, Tau and Necrons though.

I might consider getting back into SW one day though.

Started as blood angels when I got back into 40k after years away (2nd/3rd ed playing eldar) and then wanted something different to my blood angels so picked up tau then felt the pull of my former army and started eldar again.

Got bored of my blood angels and turned em into salamanders but always enjoy playing my Xenos forces more so guess deep down am a Xenos and proud

Ran Blood Angels as a kid. Dropped 40k for a decade or so (noone else in my area played!) and the DoW games got me back into it. However instead of Blood Angels Red, this time I'm running Orky Green and loving it!

I've been trying to work out why Xenos armies interest me so much. I think it is the uniqueness - whether ork, eldar, Necron, Nid plus the satisfaction of stomping humans into the ground.

This is probably just me, but games with my Crons seem more enjoyable than with my GK (but I'm having to concentrate waay more with the GK at the moment). Not sure why but I just smile more when I see the Crons - same deal with Nids, orks etc.

Sorry, I lumped everything not imperium together to keep it simple! Although, personally, CSM are a bit too close to imperium for me.

While my current main army is xeno and I'd dearly like to see more xenos books, I really don't care that much. I just want to see more cool 40k models.

I can say that, while i like the xeno factions, nothing speaks to me quite like the common man fighting aliens thats way ahead of them.

Its guard all the way for me and thus its the imperium.

I've been a humanist since 1st edition, playing Guard in 1st, Marines and Sisters in 2nd, added GK in 3rd, and played all four from 3rd through 5th (only been playing GK in 6th).

If you genuinely do not care about winning or losing, Orks are the best army to play. So fun, and funny.

Orks never lose anyway cuz they are ment for fightin' and winnin'

I am a loyal son of the Imperium of Man...

...But sometimes, I can hear the call of the craftworld. It's the grav-tanks. So sleek, so elegant. Jetbikes as well. Land Speeders try to scratch that itch, with the clunky zooming around and brutish firepower. But they fail.

If/when the new eldar codex comes out, I'm going to update my side army of Saim-Hann to the new edition, and at least have an ally force of the wild host. Last time they saw the table was back in 3rd.

I've played CSM since I started a few years ago and haven't switched. I've rolled in some Daemon allies and am pre-planning an allied detachment of traitor guard. I really enjoy the models, the fluff and the rules.

The girlfriend is a staunch ork player. She loves fielding what basically looks like a trash-heap and would be aghast at playing anything else.

I did exactly the same. Started with Eldar when I was a kid (like 12) and then messed around with Iron Hand SM...but it didnt hold my interest for long. Then I played found Tau and have been infatuated ever since (and that was like 10 years ago). About a year ago I decided to try out GK, just for a change, and made a 2.5k Draigo wing with 2 DK's, 15 Paladins, Draigo and a Storm Raven (plus a few extras like a Vindicar and Psyfuldread). They won all the time and the army rocked but they just dont give me the same feeling my Tau do, it just wasn't the same.

Chaos for some reason really just doesnt appeal to me...far too...chaotic

Xenos for life!

My mate has done exactly this. CSM, Traitor Guard and Daemons go together really well Fluff wise. In friendly games I even allow him to run his Traitor Guard as Battle Brothers just for the Fluff of it

I entered the 40K universe through space crusade, as a condequence my fist army were SM.
I quickly moved on to IG though, which have been my favorite ever since.
I Currently own and play pretty much every Imperial army/faction there is.
I own a few Eldar and Orks as well, but these are more modelling/painting projects, I've never played a single game with them and probably never will.
So yeah, Imperium all the way!

I don’t relate to anything in 40k. I play it for the cool miniatures and the modest fluff. It’s just a game.

No one should be complaining about this codex. It gave regular Eldar a much needed buff by allowing us to drop Fire Dragons and D-Scythe Wraithguard wherever we want, without scatter. Without this, I almost lost a game once. It was scary. I almost took to buying fixed dice to ensure it never happened again.

+1

The Xenos codexes seem to require a bit more getting used to and have more combos, imho.

I first started in 2nd ed as a follower of the Blood Angels. (with no assault squads, unthinkable today...). I also started eldar as a side project, until I saw the work-in-progress Falcon grab tank at games day. I almost wept at it's. Sleek design. The Vyper and the Falcon felt like a leap forward for Gw kits. I dabbled with space marines since, but I've been rooting for Ulthwe for a long time. I'm a painfully slow painter, but recently started assembling an Ork force. The recent embracing of allies has also found the Dark Kin sneaking on to my painting table. I guess that makes me a Xenos sympathizer.
