Hi, all.

I’m a little confused on some of the new WH40K Errata; apologies if this has been brought up before.

Ok, the most recent Errata/Q&A for Edition 6 has a question which asks and is answered thusly:

Q: If a vehicle suffers the effects of Crew Shaken, Crew Stunned, Weapon Destroyed, or an Immobilised result from the Vehicle Damage Table, does this automatically mean that it loses a Hull Point?
A: No. Unless it specifically suffers a Glancing or Penetrating hit, or some other effect that specifies that a Hull Pont is lost.

Now, here’s my question, me and my friends have been playing to the assumption that the you do lose a Hull Point if you suffer any of the above results from the Vehicle Damage Table, as – correct me if I’m wrong – you can only get a result such as Crew Stunned, or Immobilised by a hit actually penetrating your armour? However, the Answer states that you only remove a Hull Point “if” you’re armour’s penetrated.

This confuses me and makes me feel like I have no grasp over any of the soddin’ rules in that tomb of a rule book.

An Armour Save? No, never heard of it. Me? I play Imperial Guard.

Things like Power Mauls (I believe, might be Thammers) have a rule "concussive" which if the maul hits it automatically shakes the crew on top of any other damage. They are talking about instances like those, where the effect is the result of a special rule not directly from damage.

There are some vehicles that are immobile, which counts as 'Having suffered an immobilised result'. This FAQ question pertains to those situations, where a vehicle might suffer the effects but isn't actually penetrated.

There's a few effects in the game that can stun/immob a vehicle without penetrating the armor.

Off-hand;

Getting immobilized by terrain, doesn't cost you a hull point now.
Any HIT from a thunderhammer automatically causes a stun result (I think). So wouldn't automatically cost you a hull points.

I'm sure there are others out there, but what it's basically saying is that hull point loss is caused by glancing and penetrating hits, not by the effects on the damage table being applied.

Ok, thanks. That makes sense. I think what confused me is that why the question is answered. The Question is: If a vehicle suffers the effects of Crew Shaken, Crew Stunned, Weapon Destroyed, or an Immobilised result "FROM" the Vehicle Damage Table, does this automatically mean that it loses a Hull Point?

And the answer is "No", leading you, or me, to believe that they're taking about damage "FROM" the Vehicle Damage Table.

I'm pretty sure that getting immobilize din terrain does lose you a hull point, because it says that you do in the rule, but happy to be proven wrong.

The key example in my mind are drop pods. They drop in as a vehicles and then are assumed to suffer the effects of an immobilized result from the damage table. However this was being argued that because you're suffering an immobilized result, the drop pod also immediately loses a hull point on deployment. The errata now confirms that this was not the intention, and that there are ways to suffer damage results without a hull point being lost, as this should only occur if a succesful glancing/penetrating hit is made.

From memory the order of events for actual weapons damage is now: roll to hit, roll to penetrate, a glancing or penetrating hit loses you a hull point and now you roll to see what other effects occur as a result of the hit. This is different to the idea that you roll for damage on the table and then take off a hull point because of the damage result.

Getting imobilised from a DT test does take a hull point, you don't take two now as some people had claimed. It also means that a DP doesn't loose a hull point when it lands.

Concussive isn't what you think it is. Read the BRB as to what it's effects are.

It's not the size of the blade, it's how you use it.

Is it FAQ'd that this is the case?

Page 71 only states that it instantly becomes immobilized and to reference page 74. Which on page 74 the only reference to immobilized is in the damage chart. It also does not state that the vehicle suffers a glancing or penetrating hit, which would be the only reason to apply HP loss outside of specific mentions of HP loss without armour penetration.

Also how would anyone even begin to apply two HPs loss from a single immobilized result? Thats ridiculous.

The response takes care of situations where some ability specifically causes a Stunned/Shaken/ etc. result against a vehicle, without actually causing a glancing or penetrating hit.

I don't know of anything that actually does this, but if something somewhere causes weapon destroyed for instance, without being a glancing/penetrating hit, it would not cause the loss of a hull point.

This happened months ago.
See the FAQ on the brb.

Page 71 – Vehicles, Difficult and Dangerous Terrain.
Change the final sentence to “A vehicle that fails a Dangerous
Terrain test immediately suffers an Immobilised result from
the Vehicle Damage table, including losing one Hull Point”.

It's not the size of the blade, it's how you use it.
