Which one do you think makes better its job
in mind that the broadside cost 65 each and you must pay 20 points more for skyfire
and the Riptide cost 205 points with skyfire & interceptor
so which one is better?

"Listen closely Brothers, for my life's breath is all but spent. There shall come a time far from now when our Chapter itself is dying, even as I am now dying, and our foes shall gather to destroy us. Then my children, I shall listen for your call in whatever realm of death holds me, and come I shall, no matter what the laws of life and death forbid. At the end I will be there. For the final battle. For the Wolftime."Leman Russ |

Tough choice.
Riptides IMO should always take the IA. Better to take one gets hot vice multiple and the alternate firemode is always available. The Heavy Burst Cannon really needs to be nova charged in order to use it for it's best potential. If you really want to use the Heavy Burst cannon and nova charge it every turn, it's still not really well suited.
12 shots, 6 hits, 1 rending hit. Without Nova charge it's just a glance.
Ion Accelerator gets 3 shots, 1.5 hits, and .25 glances and .25 pens.
Broadsides: let's go with groups of 2.
HRR: will get 2 shots, 1.5 hits, and .5 pens.
HYMP gets 8 shots, 6 hits, 1 pen, 1 glance.
They should all be about comparable cost, with distance and AP being the only noticable difference between the four options. Personally I prefer to just use the HRR with interceptor and go with luck for a good roll to hit.

I'm expecting an Imperial Knights supplement dedicated to GW's loyalist apologetics. Codex: White Knights "In the grim dark future, everything is fine."
"The argument is that we have to do this or we will, bit by bit,
lose everything that we hold dear, everything that keeps the business going. Our crops will wither, our children will die piteous
deaths and the sun will be swept from the sky."

Skyrays are better all round for anti air.
BS4 Skyfire markerlights, 6 Str 8 Skyfire Missiles, 4 Str 5 unjinkable SMS. 115 points.

Skyray's strongest point is the skyfire markerlights. Don't even worry about the missiles, use those ML's to boost some crisis suit meltaguns!

Broadsides are better for AA and clearing vehicle squadrons, Riptides with IA do everything else better.

Broadsides are also better at anti-inantry, by quite a fair margin. They have lesser survivability (against most weapons), mobility and range, however.

My money is on the riptide, but not just for its anti-air. It is the most versatile unit in the codex and is good at everything except for assault, though it still hits harder than the broadsides in that respect as well.

I'll have to run the math on that when I get home from Uni tomorrow.

A Riptide with the HBC with either support from Shadowsun's Command Drone, or a FW Sensor Tower.
Either TL the HBC with the Sensor Tower or just rerolling 1s with the Command Drone, will protect the Riptide from Gets Hots from Nova Charging and get more hits.
The weapon will fire 12 S6 Rending shots. According to Math-hammer'er Trasvi, the unmodified Nova Charged HBC will get 2.333 Hull Points, compared to the IA 0.667.
Trasvi wrote:Ion Accelerator vs Heavy Burst Cannon is much closer than it might appear.
Here are the average wounds/hull points each causes at BS3:
(Where x = per hit with blast marker, and against vehicles assumes a hit with blast marker...)
It's important to note that the riptide benefits much more from Markerlights, and can fire snapshots with either of its weapon modes against flyers
We can see that the Nova Charged Heavy Burst Cannon is actually pretty damn good anti-tank - actually the most effective single weapon in our arsenal, even better than fusions in melta range.
I will probably be favouring IA for the ability to drop pie plates on interceptor, as I face a lot of terminators and you can hopefully get a large number of hits and save the nova charge for other abilities; but if you face a lot of flyers, NC HBC + skyfire and/or interceptor is a pretty deadly anti-air platform.
With modifiers, it should get more hull points.
If you want to shoot things out of the sky with the Riptide, setup just anti-armor/anti-air with the HBC.

Riptide is cool and scary to an extent but I'd always take out missilesides first. Those get priority unless the riptide just sets itself up for a JoWW removal.

God, I am so sick of people popping up saying JoTWW is the answer to Riptides. Newsflash: Not everyone plays Space Wolves, and JotWW is 24".

easy enough to ally in now plus with a drop pod 24 doesn't matter. It's not that it's the only option by any means but that it is one of the easiest most efficient solution.

Pretty much this, and heaven forbid you play a SW primary that can take 4 of those guys. JotWW is an amazing power now that it hits wraiths. With Necrons, nids and tau everywhere these days it's not going to be uncommon to see allied RP everywhere. It's not like they are a poor investment anyways with the ability to use prescience and nullify blessings.

I'm not trying to poop in the punch bowl, but do these numbers reflect the 1/3 chance of the Nova Charge failure?

I do not think so. I think it only covers the chance to hit vs the chance to pen/glance and the chance to save.
