Subject: Chris Voloin, Golden Daemon Winner, Auctioning off his model/prize?

On an eBay kick today (purging that backlog, and scouring for nifty bits).
Came across this (HUGE photo link, hence spoiler tag)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Warhammer-40K-Fabius-Bile-GOLDEN-DEMON-WINNER-/151044216807?pt=Games_US&hash=item232aefd7e7
The dude is selling his Golden Daemon award? Note, this isn't my ebay account, not advertising, I'm just thoroughly confused on why a dude would sell off such an award and model?
Anyone else ever see this before?
Proof of at least the model won:

He very specifically says the trophy and passes are not included but shown to prove that this model did, in fact, win a Golden Demon.
Of course, he could have done another one and be selling that off and not the original.

says in the description that the Demon is not for sale, just Fabius...
as to why he would sell it, why not???
i sell everything i paint, even the competition winners...
that's the whole reason i paint, to make money doing something i love...
the reason i compete is to win awards, thus getting my name out there and getting collectors interested in my work...
the guy who was selling his Slayer Sword, on the other hand, that was a shock...
cheers

If he had been doing so, he certainly wouldn't have been the fist to sell his demon trophy. I've seen half a dozen at least on eBay over the years... including one that had been painted. Actually looked quite nice
As for the slayer sword... I can actually more easily understand someone selling one of those. Not everyone has room in their house to hang a sword, or the desire to do so. And particularly since they stopped using the really fancy swords for the prize... most of the slayer swords I've seen for the last 10 years or so have just been a fairly ordinary looking sword.

Looks like it updated. He IS selling the trophy. I don't understand that, but then, I guess not having the trophy doesn't mean he didn't win it. I don't understand why someone would want to buy it though.

This monstrous icon may or may not do the following:
Speak in hoarse whispers
Fly through the room on its own volition
Cause nearby potted plants to wither
Mock you mercilessly
Steal your bicycle
Consider, however, the fun you may have as you use it:
As a prop for your tabletop RPG campaign
Repainted as a maxi-mini
As a doorstop/conversation piece
As an uncommon collectible from your favorite game
As a topper for a beer tap
As your only friend
I don't see why I'd buy a trophy I've not won with my own efforts. But heck, I lol'd hard at the description. That was brilliant.

The slayer swords lately barely qualify as wall hangers you can buy on the home shopping network. I remember reading some posts from that guy and he was very peeved at the crap quality of the sword.

I understood the selling of the model as your old work is pointless to be keeping around for no good reason. The trophy though? sort of says the guy is turning away from the industry as a modeler/painter for reasons beyond art and is dissatisfied with it all. Or just that desperate for money. Though donating plasma would give you more in a shorter amount of time.
honestly with the internet the way it is he doesnt need the trophy or slayer swords as they are immortalized on records for winning.
Quality of trophies are always poor. Meant to be put in a case and nothing more than to look at occasionally. Wall hanger swords are meant to make some idiot feel like they are a real sword they could swing around when in fact they would be put in the same crap quality when compared to a real sword.

anyone else thoroughly underwhelmed by the quality of the mini itself?
I just don't see it...I see models here on Dakka that look better than that Fabius. Maybe it's just the picture.

It is from a GD in 2004. I'm guesing painting standards changed in the last 10 years.

Maybe. It's well painted, but I was a bit surprised that it won a Golden Daemon. I wonder what the rest of the competition was.
