Depends on how cleverly you deploy it too: a flank deployment basically takes your tank out of the game as a friend of mine found out when it ran into a doom scythe with my lychguard and overlord at the other end (suffice to say I won that one). A central deployment with infantry covering the weaker armour gives it half a chance of hitting most of the table. Sure it'll die sometimes for nothing but as minigun762 said it's a wildcard that can pack an almighty punch that nothing really comes back from.

Yeah, but what about lists that don't have deathstars? Or heaven forbid IG air cav? They are going to dust all those Vindicators trivially, and your heavy support is contributing nothing. Also, vindicators dont' fare well against cover-based schemes.
As for BA, its just very different. I like the auto/las pred because its a great hedge against MCs. The vindicator is more a 2+ 1 W specialist. I love STR 10, but the vindicator just has a lot of flaws. Obviously, the vindicator is one of the reasons I love lascannons in my lists.

I think that's about how I feel as well. It's difficult to get the Vindi into position to do its job, but it's NOT that difficult to take one out. They just are not the threat ( imo) people think they are. At least not when taken in singles. If I had to face three in a list that already had some armor saturation (Rhinos, Land Raiders, etc.) well that would start to get tough, but one? One is just so easy to deal with for most armies.

Edit: I just googled ablutions and apparently it does not including dropping a duece. I should have looked it up early sorry for any confusion. - Baldsmug

That's what you'd say in those days, "give me five bees for a quarter", is what you'd say in those days. And you'd go down to the D&D shop, with an onion in your belt, 'cause that was the style of the time. So there I was in the D&D shop..." |

As I said, MTO. Throw so many threats your foe cannot afford to ignore that he can't defend against *any* of them.

That's hard for the BA, even with 3 vindicators. Besides, it has to be a list that cares about them to begin with. For infantry hordes, cover is sufficient to blunt their efficacy.
I can't justify using all three heavy slots for a Vindicator in a TAC list. Remember that most of the time, your Vindicator is AV 11, not AV 13. There is no level of armor saturation that can protect them.

My main MEQ army is Chaos and Blood Ravens, and I can do MTO quite well, having the funds to buy lots of models, time to paint, and a wife to help does however, mean I can and do buy large numbers of crap on a whim so I can field MTO Chaos.

I fielded the single Vindi for the first time yesterday, against an infantry army.
I placed the 2 Preds on either side of the Vindi (protecting the side armor!) but my opponent was still focused on trying to kill it. It did last till Turn 4 though (when 6 termies charged it) but it did its job and distracted my opponent from his objectives.

I've actually never run a Vindicator with my Wolves...but I played a couple of games running a Demolisher with a Guard/Demon list....and it slips right into maximum threat overload. The heavy hitters in the list are Lord of Change, Demon Prince, 18 Hounds, 2 Vendettas, the Demolisher. While different weapons systems are more optimal at removing my big threats, it still lets me control the board because no one wants to get near any of those units... I also have a Basilisk in there, which sits next to the Demolisher (and both bubble wrapped with guardsmen or plaguebearers, so they can't be alpha meltad) and people always shoot at the Demolisher first, even though it's harder to kill...and that lets the Basilisk continue to be annoying.
I haven't decided if it's a "good" list yet, or if the Demolisher really fits in, but it has scored some impressive kills (including about half a draigo wing, allowing my Hounds to tarpit the rest until the game ended)

I saw a similar thing yesterday in a 3v3 I played yesterday. SW vindicator with flanks covered by the Loganwing and Doomsday Ark. Left alone as people fretted over the units flanking it and over the triple carnifex/double tervigon list our ally was running. Left Vindi to blast half of Belial's squad to smithereens and easy pickings for Loganwing, who were all set to smash Deathwing Knights and Azrael (or at least try) when the game ended cos one of us had to leave.
Vindicators can work on their own, but you have to play them carefully

The demolisher outshines the vindicator though by a long shot so it's not really fair to compare them in my opinion. Yeah it's more expensive, but you get AV14 and AV13 on the side and a turret. It's like the tank the vindicator wishes it was.

I remember a 9 LRD charge or three back in 5th edition. Shee didn't win objective games much except in really high points games, but whenever the dice said kill points, her eyes would light up and everyone would scurry and hide.

I sure love me some pie. However as has already been stated, specialisation breeds weakness.
