Today my friends informed me that they all quit w40k and move to warmachine/horde , worse of it from the models that are sold here I cant build a single working army , even if I sold my IG. But that is not the thing I wanted to ask people about . How do people deal with their playgroup breaking up . What do you do when there is no one to play against or you lose the only place you can play at ?

Id suggest trying out Warmachine or Hordes to see if you like them. As I understand its a lot cheaper than 40k. Hang on to your army though, there is a good chance your group will come back to 40k, or may want a game now and then.

I represent the Surrey Spartans gaming group. Check us out and feel free to come along for a game! https://www.facebook.com/groups/425689674233804/
Tzeentch Daemons 2000pts
Kabal of the Sundering Strike 2500pts
Eldar Corsairs 750pts
400pts Corregidor/Nomads
300pts Yu Jing
200pts+ each of Imperial and Rebel fleets for X-Wing
A Terran Alliance and Dindrenzi Fleet for Firestorm Armada
A Necromunda Goliath gang and Spyrer gang

It depends on the game group.

if its just a bunch of random people hanging out at a LFG, then find another LFG for games.

If its your personal friends i would suggest trying out warmahord, proxy first with your friends to see if you like it.

if you do, swap shop should be able to help you transition pretty quickly.

The only way to start a new game for me is to sell the w40k stuff as I dont have the income to buy even the smallest army , which by the way seems to be a no problem anyway as the models I could buy with the sold IG do not make a good cygnar list . I just wish they switched after summer and not before it. Now I will be stuck doing nothing and they are going to be playing whole summer . To be honest I dont know If I want to keep the IG stuff. GW is bringing out codex fast and there is a very good chance that all the stuff will suck in the future and then I will not only have no one to play against , but also a unsellable army..

I am also flirting with the idea of WM. All you need to play (please someone correct me if Im wrong) is the big starter box. Its around $100 and just like GW starter box you get 2 armies, rule book and codex. If you cant work the starter box you can get buy with the large rule book and a starter army box.

It always sucks to lose a group like that :( recently the same thing happen at where I play with 40k a little on life support :( having only seen a single game in months. Right now we get a few games here and there to keep it going and hoping for some new players that side.

How much are they starting out as ? The army boxes will get the most part of 15 points for games, and the starter box gives both army's a bit extra, about 20 maybe 25 points each+ mini rule book.

Also if you are worried about price, every mini comes with a card so don't need the books right away if your friends dont mind you having a read of there's

It sounds like you really want to get rid of your guard army. What do you have in your IG army? Even if you only have 1500 pts worth of IG, you should be able to swap/sell it to get a decent WarmaHordes army going.

However, I would be money that your friends will come back to 40k in the near future, so you might want to keep your 40k army. (the only reason to sell one of these "collectible" armies is if you never intend to do it again, since you lose money every time) I got into Warmachine by splitting the two-player box (ebay for around US $75 split 2 ways ) and that was enough Khador models for me to play. Perhaps one of your friends would want to do that and then you have a nice starter army for less than US $40 that is bigger than the starter box that sells for US $50.

Lets be honest, selling your IG to buy something seems terrible.

If you cannot trade for a Warma army than I'd hold onto the IG army.

As far as losing a gaming group, I don't think it's possible for me. 2 local shops with 2 distinct groups, friends that play at their house.

50 pts dual list armies , but they told me they can play 35 pts till I get enough to play 50. But it seems like that stoped being a problem anymore , as our FLGS doesnt have enough models to buy a single good army.

What do you have in your IG army?

64guardsman with 4 auto cannons 6 melta 8 plasma , 1 comissar , 3 vendettas , 2 Lemmans , 1 manticore , 1 aegis , 1 marbo.

They already bought their armies , one of my friends has an uncle in Chicago and he bought the armies for all four of them . PP seems to have problems with sending stuff on time here , there is stuff that came out 6 months ago that they still haven't sent to the store I play in .

So it looks like a long forced break .

Sorry to hear that. It would be fairly traumatic if that happened to me, as I am heavily invested and DO have the mony. But then, I play every Mini game knon to man, so I would not be AS affected and so I feel for you very much.

ne thing to consider is that SOMEONE has to be promoting the hobby "out there". Might as well be you. My suggestion is to take the initiative and hold 750 point tournies, run by you, and promote it around the High school and College nearby.

Tie the tourney to an event. Veterans Day, Memorial Day and similar things and make it a food drive entry fee or other such thing to increase who will promote it. Ask your friends to donate small forces people can borrow since they dont play anymore, and allow you to use them to promote things.

Do Demo's once every couple weeks and make sure to put flyers at the store about the Demo's.

And of course draw from other Gaming centers for players to attend such events so you can keep the visuals good.

Just some ideas. It will take effort.

I'm having the same problem, of the five or so people in my original playgroup (all friends or friends of friends), none of them play 40k regularly anymore. Except in my case one of them just doesn't have the time, another moved away, another is generally too stoned to ever want to play anymore, and the last friend got a new boyfriend that doesn't like him playing 40k cause its too "nerdy." And yet he's perfectly fine with him playing Magic and DnD, no joke.

That is a crummy situation for you. I think you should keep your IG army though rather than sell it at a loss. Maybe just take a break from wargaming for awhile and make some new friends.

If the 40k fluff isn't keeping them here, I doubt they'll ever come back.

Man up and deal with it. Play with an underpowered army (aka winning with skill) or go get a job. Proxy in some stuff, or, if you want to be creative, make some goddamn warjacks out of popsicle sticks ~ if your friends won't play them, they need a good ass kicking.

To be honest, I don't know if I've ever had to deal with that.

I had a regular playgroup, guys I knew from WH40k first but soon discovered we went to the same high school.

But then I got too sick to continue any social activities for a while, then when I'd recovered enough, I went to our usual gaming spot at the usual time, found the tables there, but no one showed up.

I never had the courage to go back after that. And a while later, the store moved to a new location, so they were no longer able to operate the game room. It's now some sort of medical place, I think chiropractic or orthodontic, but I really don't remember.

I found one of that group on MSN once, he asked what had happened to me, and I told him, but we haven't spoken since.

I've tried to find them on Facebook, but no luck.

I don't know if they even still play. Hell, I don't even know if any of them are still alive - though I'd imagine they are.

I tried playing with my brother, but he grew tired of the game and stopped playing. And then I tried to play games against myself, but it felt pointless and silly.

So I stopped playing for a while. I painted a few models here and there.

Eventually, years later, I was painting some new Sisters of Battle I'd gotten because I was able to stomach their price compared to the plastics I usually bought - the 10-sister boxes were 50 dollars at that point, and a box of Marines was 40 or so. Anyways, I griped out loud that it sucked that I'd never get to game with them because of all the social anxiety preventing me from finding a group to play with or go to the local GW to play. And then my mom offered to play a game with me. I was kinda shocked until I... I forget if I already knew, but I was at least reminded if not informed that my mom was into board games and the like. It's actually how my parents met - in the strategy club at college.

So I introduced my mom to WH40k. We had tons of fun together, but the Internet community kinda killed it for me around the time the 6e WD Sisters dex came out. I tried to stay optimistic, but enough people kept telling me how much GW hated the army, and there was just so much negativity... It got to me. I bought into it. And it killed my desire to play WH40k apart from a small game here and there. I think there's an in-progress game on my gaming table at home that's been sitting there so long... Well, the models probably have a nice layer of dust on them by now. I haven't been in there much.

Had this problem before in middle school , no friends for 6 years . It is hard to find friends at school when your a teachers kids. Everyone hates you for everything you parents do .

Am still in junior highschool or what ever the thing is you have before highschool .

They sold their armies , didnt even tell me they did . I asked them , if we play on weekend and they told me , that they do , only its warmachine and that all 4 of them sold their armies and wont play w40k anymore . Maybe I'll look in to WFB , but there are few non tournament WFB players here.

I have been dealing with sort of the same thing.
We had one player who was great to play with [though I think he was a little waac, not WAAC]. He started playing Maulafax and tried to get us to play. It was ok, but I still preferred 40k. then he decided to still all of his 40k stuff incluiding a Nid army, but when I said I was interested, but would have to wait a week or to for me to have the money, but he just sold it off to someone else. recently I found out he went fromMaulafax, to WM and is now doing Infinity and is thinking of Flames of War.
This sucked, I liked playing with him.

We had another one, a Chaos Marine Player, who did not like playing by the rules. Now he is trying to get us to play 6th Edition Rules with 1st Edition Army Building.

We also have one who does not want to play, but wants to build us Scenarios. Though do the fact he does not want to learn the rules, they keep being fails with Army List construction. I don’t think he believes in the FOC. This is one I wish would go away.

Anyways; finding a good group can be hard and dealing with players leaving can really cause problems with group of players. Currently my group consist of me and one other. We are now averaging one game every 2-3 months because we are board with each others army. I am currently looking here on Dakka to se if I can find another player or two.

Change games or find a new group.

I've played with several groups over the years. I either moved away or stopped playing the games they did.

In each case, I found a new group if I needed to. Now I have two clubs relatively close by and one other I can travel to if I need to (two hour trip each way).
