Hi guys,

I have a box of Chaos Knights and i dont know how to load them out. What do you suggest?

Having never played a game, i have little experiance with WoC. Though i've watched a fair few battle reports, i'm still a little uncertain of their role in an army. What role do they fill in an army?

Thanks for the help guys

I am not an expert on WOC by any means (Ogre player) but common wisdom suggests ensorcelled weapons are the way to go for the constant strength bonus and magic attacks over the bonus when charging from lances.

Definitely, except that lances are better against HE. Nurgle is awesome, but all the marks are good. I run a block of 9 with a kickass lord, makes an awesome hammer.

Ensorcelled Weapons. Its never worthwhile to give them lances.

Ok. So ensorcelled weapons and shields. What about marks? How do you run them, and what role do you have them do?

Lances are thoroughly worthwhile against High Elves, where you want to maximise mundane attacks. Given a choice of lance or no lance, for only 2 points, lance wins.
Nurgle is the most survivable, Khorne kills lots, so I'd to with one of them, I go Nurgle and that unit always makes it's points back easily.

If you stick a character in the unit, lances are fine. The character brings enough killing power after the initial charge.
If you're running them without a beat stick character, take enscrolled.

I have run them with lances/flaming as a dedicated monster hunter unit, due to high density of attacks on a small base size. Other than that, knights are one of the worse special choices in the book. One bad turn rolling, you lose your frenzy, break, and die. They're maybe the best heavy cav out there, but they suffer from the 8th-ed weaknesses of heavy cav. Then again, every wound they take is a major handicap to a unit of a reasonable size, and 8th has a lot of wounds flying around.

Skullcrushers are a far superior choice point for point, but if you want to stay in special, rock trolls or even ogres (very much in that order).

I don't know how helpful that is considering he already stated he has a box of Chaos Knights.

Incidently, Ensorscelled Weapons are better against every army in the game except High Elves who happen to include a specific banner.

Change and change until Change is our master, for nothing neither God nor mortal can hold that which has no form. Change is the constant that cannot be changed.

No game of chess can be won without pawns, and this may prove to be a very long game.

I prefer the blasted on a warrior anvil, but each to their own. Ensorcelled weapons are great, and normally the best option, but if you have a high proclivity of HE players around you then I'dgo lances (but only then).
As for losing frenzy, my knights almost never lose combat because they do a lot of wounds and rarely take any.
Definitely good to run a character with them, I run my general and a level 1 in them for large games.
As for llosing frenzy, that is only an issue if you are Khorne. Go Nurgle and your guys survive really well.

The best way to never loose frenzy is not run khorne.
Nurgle and Tzeench do just fine.

Tzeench knights are the best bunker in the game for Monstrous Cav Characters.

I run mine 2 rows of 5(some may advise against) with a MoN and lances and they for the most part do exceptionally well, especially when I stick a Lord on a daemon steed in with them. I have had many an opponent either avoid them or get so focused on them they forget about my other models like my gorebeast chariot who is a unit killer all by itself. I prefer the look of the lances but ensorcelled weapons definitely can be a dangerous choice for killing once in CC.

Don't see how they are a great bunker for Monstrous cav, as they wouldn't get a LoS? Will be delighted if you can fill me in thiugh

If I'm only taking a minimum unit of Knights I run them with lances. It's not like I'm counting on 5 knights to last a while, so I'd rather be S6 (also it's that teensy bit cheaper).

If I'm taking more of them (which I usually do) then I take Tzeentch with Ensorcelled weapons. I also throw my BSB on a Daemonic Mount in there.

On a 2+, Blasted Standard halves the strength of in coming shots.
Against a T5 model with 1+ armor and a decent ward, he's shrugging off cannon hits.
