How would a Typhus zombie army be?

I mean one where all 6 troop spots are filled with max Zombies?

Looking at around 1850 points....would that work? Could it be competitive?

It'd melt in the face of S8+ spam, have little killing power, but it'd be an amazing tar pit and objective camper. Plus zombies are dirt cheap so you should have points to spare. You''ll need anti vehicle somewhere else though.

The only problem I see with Tons O Zombies.....is painting them all

I am actually trying to use only cultists for my troops choices, besides some berzerkers or chosen, if I bring Kharn and/or Abaddon.

If zombies are absolutely the only thing, no. Even cheese units like hell drakes and vendettas cannot win on their own. That being said zombies are fantastic tar pits and extremely cheap. If you want a nurgle themed army, I'd recommend that you take some plague marines with anti-armor loadouts like meltas in Rhinos to get there fast, blight drones, beast of nurgle allies, and MoN oblits for a fairly competitive Nurgle army. The zombies would be tar pits to hold up killy assault squads all game long.

How would Dark Angels beat a zombie spam on that level?

Mantic do a box of 60 zombies very cheap. I can't see it mattering them being slightly smaller, as after all they are human zombies so will be more to scale than the cultists that are the same height as a 8 foot tall space marine.

The way Dark Angels beat everything, with a bucket of dice bolter salvo combined with rad grenades and plasma.

TBH if you could have a Wall of zombies qround your plague Marines i think life would be pretty good , by it'self it would crumble but with the correct support it could be very lethal

Would you mind if I asked how you go about painting up your cultists/zombies. Not your actual painting scheme, but what is your thought process when you sit down and paint. Each time I sit down and attempt on my 100 cultists, I just get overwhelmed

I was in the same boat, I picked up 50 zombies (actually to use as plaguebearers, as I hate the model) and just could not make myself start. Well, a few days ago I decided to do them in batches of five. Takes less than an hour, so I knock them out after work. I'm up to 22 (one day I did seven). 5 is a great number, because by the time I finish step 1 on the fifth model, the first is dry enough for step 2.

It seems to me that if this kind of army is competitive in tournaments there really can't be too much strategy in the game. This is just a boots on the ground army and move forward....wouldn't horde armies just be the way to go? Fill the board and move forward?

As much as I like zombie lists I don't think it would work in a Tournament as it would take too long to Set up, Move and after the match move to another table. Depending on how each match is set up you'd be lucky to get half a game in.

All that aside, my 1850pt zombie list would be:
HQ
Typhus
Troops
35 Zombies
30 Zombies
30 Zombies
30 Zombies
30 Zombies
30 Zombies

Heavy
5 Man Havok Sqd w/4lascannons, Vets of the long war - 160pts
5 Man Havok Sqd w/4lascannons, Vets of the long war - 160pts
5 Man Havok Sqd w/4lascannons, Vets of the long war - 160pts

Elite
5 Man Chosen Sqd w/5 Plasma guns, melta bomb - 170pts
5 Man Chosen Sqd w/5 Plasma guns, metla bomb - 170pts

Now I'm sure there are better things you could put in the list but I went for lowest cost, as in I made 3 5man squads of havoks and chosen out of just 3 boxes of chaos marines with green stuff and bits. For the zombies I jumped on Mantic's Halloween sale and got 200+ zombies for cheap.

And this is a link to a 750pt battle report with Typhus and just 120 zombies VS. Orks
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/523673.page

Things to note, blasts and templates will do very well against you (even IG mortars were getting 15 hits per unit) Just don't get lazy on your displacement / movement!

The game has a very low skill cap. You'll find that after a month of playing regularly you'll be as good almost everyone else. However a zombie spam army wouldn't be particularly competitive. It'd be torn apart by so many things that simple hard counter it. You'd also have to move those zombies to your opponents side of the table in a lot of games, or to he middle in a relic game. Both of those would leave you highly exposed to fast armies.

Zombie spam has almost no offensive capability compared to most armies. It relies entirely on the elite, FA and HS slots to do the leg work, while other armies have their troops contribute too. In fact you'll find that the best codices generally come with the best troops, or at least those that can contribute while also being scoring bodies.

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...

Not only that but a 6x30 Zombie army would be extremely boring to play.

Best bet is to take 2 largish zombie squads to act as tarpit and board control and then smaller 15 man ones to hold objectives. You'll find that too many zombies on the board impedes your own movement along with your opponents,

I love zombies and I have a blast playing them but even I wouldn't do more than 4 blobs of 30 unless you're over 2000pts, and this is coming from a guy who likes his zombies :p

The reason I say 4 is that 2 are just meat shields for the other 2 to do their job. (Get on objective/relic etc.) Also 30 extra wounds for my Typhus isn't such a bad thing since his powers are so short ranged.

This is an idea depending how you are playing. I don't play chaos, and maybe there is another army that does, but Dark Eldar has a web way portal that allows your reserves to come in where the portal is placed. I don't know how that would work with zombies but it is just any idea.

Nurgle is easily the most competitive option for a mono-god chaos army, but zombies alone won't do it. Invest in other nurgly options, and with FW and allies, the god of plague is a very generous patron indeed.

I could see it working. The best way to win a game is to play the objectives, and taking/contesting objectives is how you win MOST games. So yea, they would do that part well enough
