It’s definitely a compromise on time invested vs. quality, but a solid battle ready army that might be finished before the sun grows cold.

The goal is silver tide. Retro old school. Eventually I will add the Nightbringer. But will never spam the star gods. One makes a nice centerpiece.
I feel I might need more warriors to get the army feel where I want it, but might get some immortals. That’s a discussion for after I finish what I have, and see what 11th looks like. Automatically Appended Next Post:
And some paint progress.

Evening Nev,
Quite a lot to catch up on, the Necrons are looking great, the colour scheme works well, and can just imagine them as a horde advancing forward (T2 style).
Liking the paint scheme on the Reivers, artic camo is really cool, no pun intended. Whats your technique, white base and then grey camo in various shades? I’m undecided for my scouts whether to go arctic or woodland?
And finally the new cabinet is looking good, I’m not shocked that you’ve managed to fill it already - the tyranid horde is looking good!

I wrote: White armor: Prime white (rustolim rattle can, like eveything I ddo) Grey Seer base Apothecary White contrast all over Nuln oil the soft armor in the joints For clean white amor, edge highlight with a pute white, like White Scar (I forget the name of the pot I’m on right now, they go clumpy fast) This lets the otherwise shades of grey armor read more like a pure white. Omit for camo For camo, tiger stripe the hard armor. I use 3 colors. Dark grey (mechanicum), light grey (dawnstone), and a pale blue (elf grey). This is an organic proccess. You want the stripes to branch and overlap, and mostly cover the base armor, and mostly stay the same direction. But not entirely, and there should not be a pattern. While the bulk of the stripes can be done in one pass each there needs to be a touch up step where I got back and redo some colors. Not only does this help fill any blank spots I missed, but ensures that the last color is not always the stripe on top. They should weave over/under each other. I generally don’t edge highlight the camo armor, but have been known to give the cloaks a little edge to help them pop a bit, and seperate the fabric from the armor worn underneath. I use the same basic technique for my woodlands camo. Although that’s over a base of goblin green, and use brown/black/grey for the stripes. Nuln oil wash overall. At least that’s the latest iteration. My old scouts used that without the grey and final wash for soft armor, where hard armor was a darker green as a base and used black/brown stippled on instead of tiger stripes. The volume of minis I have is really mind boggling. If I was feeling real frisky I could try to replicate the old picture from when I was moving out after the divorce. This is what I could not fit in the initial move. So not even the whole collection. And a lot of that is in boxes now. Honestly, I don’t think I have a table big enough to hold everything. And the pic would just end up looking like scattered pixels of color to get everything in frame. And that’s just the painted stuff. I think I grabbed pics of my OGRE stuff at one point, lots of that. Don’t know if I’ve ever shot my Silent Death minis. Few dozen of them. I’ve got a problem. It’s not that I have too many minis. It’s not enough space to display them... Edit: This scale creep is getting WAY out of hand. So I got my W+ coupon and clicked the link to see what was in the shop. Lo and behold, the named BGV I had my eye on was listed as available. So I place my order. A few days later I get a “Sorry, we don’t have that, you want a refund or a gift card?” Refund please. But I hit the JoyToy store on Amazon, and they have it for sale. At less then the Merch store including the discount. So why the heck not. I deserve silly things from time to time. And now Brother Torvald will stand vigil on my computer desk.

Random?! I resemble that remark!
I’ve got 2 and a half flavors of marines ( 40k Ultras, 30k Ultras, Deathwatch) And the 40k are from 3 different companies.
2 kinds of undead (soulblight, nighthaunt)
Eldar
Necrons
Cursed City heros
Assorted Free Minis of the Month
Tanks
Terrain
Random bits!
And that’s just the stuff that’s out on display ready to paint. There are dead projects in the Pile of Shame that have primer on them. Some from when I was applying Smelly Primer with a brush.

In addition to blogging here, I also post on my FLGS’s WIP Wednesday posts. When I posted my latest WIP, I was asked if I was going to paint or freehand markings. In response I wrote:As I’m going to have the armor is arctic camo I’m going to have to dig around for some non-white Ultramarine transfers. But I’ve probably got some somewhere. If not, freehand. Although the white “U” masked out of the camo stripes might work as well. Seeing that the underlying color is going to be a more greyish white then the pure white of the transfer. Or I could do one shoulder in blue. Something to ponder while I finish them up. As you can see, I’m dithering. Also historically, I did not put chapter markings on my scouts. This dates way back from before I switched from Blood Angels to Ultras, so I could use them with either force. In universe my justification was that their job was to gather intel, not give it out. By not wearing chapter markings their opponent would not know what force they were up against. Now my phobos get a blue shoulder. But they also have nice formal shoulderpads with a rim and everything. The non-pad shoulder is generally left bare. Exceptions made for HQs. I know I can get blue :ultra: symbols somewhere, as one of my Lt’s is wearing one. Where it came for an do I have 10 more is another question. So the options: A - No markings, all stealth B - Blue/black U’s over camo. Transfers if I can find them, freehand if I can’t. C - White U’s over camo (this is the easy answer. Well, easy that’s not A’s do nothing answer) D - White U’s over chapter blue shoulder. Mimics the phobos. E - Other, please describe.

Thanks. They are up for their pre-wash clean up pass once the morning caffeine wears off. Used Black Legion on their boots, which might be my new way of painting basic Eldar troops.
Building some more Necrons. Almost done with the warriors. That will leave just the mixed unit sprue and a couple HQs to go.
I’m curious how 11th will impact how their characters will work. We’ve been told every character is either a leader or support, and a squad can have one of each attached. Necrons seem to have a ton of both, plus other random attach things. Will be interesting to see how the tags get handed out. My other armies care less. Marines are pretty clear cut (but that might just be because I know them better). Tyranids barely care about leaders. Eldar have Warlocks as support, but everyone else is pretty much a leader.
Once I’m done building the warriors I’ll probably just keep on working through the remainder of the Necrons. Maybe splash in a few free minis of the month I never built. I have some marines that I need to build, including some for the company. But I want to see more about what’s coming in the new edition before I build them. It would be nice to wrap up my build projects before the new minis drop. Because when they do, that’s going to dominate the workbench for a bit.
Hope everyone is having a good Sunday. Have another cup of coffee and procrastinate some more.

Thanks for the guidance on the arctic camo, gives me a bit of food for thought on my scouts when I get round to them.
Your scouts are coming along nicely, I like the idea of the blue pad with the symbol on it, but it kind of goes against the whole “camo” idea. Maybe a light grey shoulder pad, white symbol and some camo over the top?

Reanimator is done.
Building a necron HQ type, forget his name. Hero guy with a big gun.

So I took some progress pics to show how the camo comes together. Mostly out of focus, but life is like that. Start with apothecary white over a grey seer base. Stripe one is mechanicus grey, second is dawnstone, third is elf grey. Not pictured but when tidying up some of the other details I added a little more of the middle grey to break things up a little more and patch spots.

I may have done this recently, but I’m doing it again. My blog. So GW put out an article about chaplains though the ages. That got me thinking (dangerous, I know) so here we go. These are the old guys. The one with the JP was one of my early marine magnetization projects. He’s metal. So is the pack. The arm is plastic, and he’s got a combi flamer for when I want to field him as Cassius. Fun fact, he’s the chaplain model originally shown for him, before he got his own official one and rules solidified into the c-flamer. Of all my chaplains he spent the most time on the table. JP leading assault marines. Particularly in 3rd, which was a good time to be a chaplain. They were a cost efficient option with solid base wargear. Plus the force multiplier of buffing their squads was better than just personally hitting a little harder/more often. The foot guy with the xenos bits was a gift. One of the guy at the FLGS made named characters for many of the other regulars. He’s got aliens to kill, and no time to slow down to repair his armor. So he patches it with what’s on hand and gets on purging. Nutter. Probably fielded him the least. I’m honestly not sure if I did get him to the table. Old TDA chap probably saw the most use besides the JP. Solid choice to buff a squad, either chargeing down an assault ramp or teleporting in. Bike guy is an oddity. He was one of the first mounted characters I had, so was a good include for mechanized lists. But bikes were more shooty then choppy, so his rules didn’t fit well. Still rolled into battle a bit, especially when bike lists were strong. So that was the classic 4 ways to field HQs Foot, jump, bike, terminator. But you know we are not stopping there... Primaris and new armor. Technically no rules for this guy. But he’s a chaplain on foot with a crozius and a pistol. Real happy with how he turned out, both as a kitbash and paint. (Although I didn’t blue his chcapter shoulder. woops) Officially in my headcannon, this is my old 3rd ed chaplain who crossed the rubicon primaris. The old guy is still on the shelf, in front of the old firstborn company. But the Primaris boy has taken over on the table. (not technically a chaplain, but related) Judicair. Chaplains in training IIRC the fluff. But visually he bleongs to the group. And if they ever sunset his rules, he’s an easy counts-as. Happy with how his skin tone turned out. Most of my army is pretty white washed. Get some diversity into the ranks. New terminators from the Leviathan box are wildly out of scale with my old ones. Need fresh blood to lead them. Kitbashed from the Lev captain. Very happy with the results. And the modern version of the biker. And a kitbashed primaris jump pack. Before the new official one from 11th. I should get a new matrix pic with the 4 ways to field again. and some before/after pics. Don’t have a TDA specific one, so forgive the captain and librarian in the chaplain post So they will be joined by the new guy once I get the 11th box. But it might take some time for him to get painted up, as I’ve got my counts-as. Or he might not even join the Ultras and get shuffled off to the Deathwatch. Who knows. Probably get built and linger in the back of the primed pile for a bit. Enjoy your weekends all. Almost done with my coffee, time to get some paint down.

Very nice round-up- and goes back a 'ways!
I've got the metal kit from around 1990 for a chaplain riding shotgun on a wheeled motorcycle with sidecar with a Marine driver; I'll lay hands on it and photograph.
Rock on!

Almost done. Bases all around and then to decide if I want to put transfers on the scouts.
Edit:
Destroyers are done, scouts are rocked and tufted.
4 necron warriors and a plasmacyte are on the handles and have their first silver down. At this point I’ve made my 50 model pledge, but am not going to hit 100. I can still try to boost the store’s total. Plus help clear the decks. At some point orks from 11th are going to start trickling in, need to make room.

Evening Nev, nice look back on all your chaplains, very impressive collection through the ages. I think my favourite is the latest jump pack model, although your Phobos is very cool as well. Like you I’m looking forward to the 11th edition boxset to see what delights it contains.
The scouts look good, thanks for the painting breakdown for the camo, really nice step by step guide.
Congrats on hitting the 50 mark for the start of the year.
