Just a question, if I run commander farsight as my hq as an allied force, do I need to have him with his Farsight enclave type scheme and soldiers etc. or can I just run him the same way you would with a normal commander.

There are almost no "Farsight Enclave" rules in the new codex. Farsight can be accompanied by a larger bodyguard regardless of whether he's an ally or primary - that's it.

Dont forget you need a single troops choice, so your allies will quickly cost in the 1200s depending on the size you are going for.

This is completely and utterly false

the rules for the 7-man bodyguard squad is the farsight enclave.

Note that the poster did not say there were no enclave rules.. However it appears the original poster is actually talking about the Breakaway Faction special rule that Farsight used to have (which was what originally allowed a 7-man Bodyguard team).

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

I was being silly, but I concede and agree.

Dang. Was hoping to get that edit in before anybody else had a chance to notice.

In the 4th edition codex, Farsight had a special rule called "Breakaway Faction". This made Crisis Suits 1+, you could not take Ethereals, or non Tau (except Drones I believe) and Farsight's Bodyguard could have 7 models instead of 2. In the new codex they got rid of everything except the Bodyguard model count (which is now called "Farsight's Enclave). Scipio knows the OP was talking about the old rule, and then claimed that you (Pyrian) were wrong about there being almost no Farsight Enclave rules (which he is wrong about, as you said almost none, which implies there are just incredibly few (ie 1)).

There are som pretty accusatory statements in there, scale it back so I don't look like an evil guy with a handlebar moustache next time.

Scipio, the only things I accused you of were:
A) knowing the OP was talking about the old rule (which if either is not true I apologize)
B) saying Pyrian was wrong about there being almost no rules for Farsight Enclaves.

Pyrian said that there are almost no rules. You said he was wrong. The fact is there is 1 rule (which can easily be read as almost none). My original post said you were correct, but then I re-read Pyrian post that you said was wrong.

Finally, what is wrong with the handlebar mustache? Granted the Fu Manchu is way cooler but...

The part I find interesting, and please correct me if I am wrong, is that bodyguards are a separate unit. It isn't really a concern, they don't disadvantage you in any real sense by being separate from your HQ and can actually make some interesting gimmicks because of it. I just bring it up because nearly every other bodyguard choice in multiple codex's are upgrades to the existing HQ and not their own units.

It is just... interesting.

That's just not true. The only one that is that way that I can think of is IG, and only in the Command Squad where the HQ is not an IC.

Yeah, bodyguards as upgrades for the HQ unit went away a long time ago. From memory, Black Templars would be the last codex that would apply to. Everyone that has been updated since then gets retinues as a separate unit.
