I've been reviewing my list for wargamescon lately and have hit a snag. My core is 2x flyrant, 2x tervigon, 2x 10 gaunts, 2x 3 hive guard, 3 biovores, and Doom in a spore. I was planning on adding 10 more gaunts and a third tervigon. But I could use those points for a tyranofex instead. Thoughts?

Tervigon. Tyrannofexes are over priced mediocre gunmen. At BS3, his shooting is not great.

Tervigon, without a doubt.

Buy moar Tervigons. Tervigons are the bread and butter of our current book. So get more.

3 Tervigons is crucial to competitive lists in my mind. 2 could be enough, but if so find something better than a TFex to fill points with. If it's double FOC then Zoeys or Ymgarls are good, otherwise you could add some Devilgants or a dakkafex. I'd recommend a Tervi first though.

Just as a thought, but perhaps you might consider using those points to get a couple big broods of Gargoyles? I find whenever I desperately need my Tervigons to generate good screens they always without fail generate a small handful and run out of larva for the rest of the game. Besides that, Gargoyles are fast so they can help the Tyrant's put pressure on the enemy's side of the table as well.

I'd consider getting some Gargoyles or a Trygon as a viable alternative to a 3rd Tervigon. My advice would be to try playing a few games with each choice and see what you like more (proxy if you don't have the models).

I have a peanut allergy. It's really inconsiderate.

Before the final blow was struck, I tore open a portal in space and flung him into the Warp, where my evil is law! Now the fool seeks to return to real-space, and undo the evil that is Chaos!"

Well, your only reliable troops choice with the current Nid Codex is the Tervigon.

On the other hand, there are a couple of Heavy Support choices that you can use, but sadly, the Tyrannofex isn't one of them. Out of the 2, the Tervigon is the better bet, by a long way.

However, Carnifexes with 2 Sets of Devs, Trygons and Biovores are all pretty good options for the Heavy Support slot instead, if you don't want to just Tervigon Spam.

As most have already said, take the Tervigon over the Tyrannofex. However, if you want to surprise your opponents you could aways take more gants.

What about a unit of 15 devilgants in a spod? ~200 points and you can pretty much wipe any MSU off the map!

They are especially awesome if you have one of your Flyrants with OA nearby their drop because then you ensure doing more damage.

As above, maybe actually throw in something a little different? A unit of 20 Devourer-Termagants and Mycetic Spore will set you back 240 points, and are really quite brutal (if you can zoom an OA Hive Tyrant up to them before they shoot, all the better).

On the other hand, you might want to consider something a bit more left-field. A blob of 30 Toxic Hormagaunts will also only set you back 240 points, and they are a really under-rated unit with a a huge footprint, very good killing power and reasonable speed (people will tell you to take Gargoyles, but in many ways the superior I and A of the Hormagaunts, as well as their Scything Talons and under-rated nature will give them the edge). If you're going to do this though, you *must* make sure you have either Catalyst or Endurance on them at all times though, else they die too quickly to shooting and over-watch.

You could even get six or seven Rending Raveners for that cost, and while T4 is a bit of a problem with that many MCs and Hive Guard you may well find that your opponents are too busy shooting at T6 things to think about the Raveners. Which is a mistake because Raveners are stunningly fast and very dangerous. Again, best used with some sort of FNP just for insurance.

If you're going for competitive play, taking something unexpected that doesn't feature in the net-lists can sometimes give you a real edge.
