Seeing the next release of the Eldar, I have decided to delve into Craftworld as i abandon my rather bland marines in search for a more exquisite army to paint and learn.
This thread will be my list building thread, where I will post many lists in various point forms and scenarios and might also post some battle reports from time to time.
Seeing as I need a minimum of 2 Troops and 1 HQ choice
I was thinking up of picking some Dire Avengers and a Farseer.
How would you guys kit them out what should I add to get a 500 point army on the table? For low points I think I will stick to simple models now
before I indulge myself in things like the wraithlord or the wraithknight!
Also, how are Eldar guardians compared to DA?
Thanks

Man, no real idea right now as the new codex is just out in pre-Orders. Only thing I have seen is BS 4 on Vipers and Shuri-Cannons are 24", Str 6, AP 5, Assault 3 'Bladestorm' and Bladestorm is Rending (Wounds on a 6 are resolves at AP 2 and are auto-wounds).
Till then, all folk can really do is speculate or tell you what was good in the last codex.

If nothing else, guardians are cheap points wise for holding objectives.
Again, Codex Eldar is going to be out for a LONG time... might as well wait a couple of weeks to hold the actual book in your hands before you start your army.

HQ: Farseer Troop: Dire Avengers won't let you down but Guardians are good and cheap units for objectives. You might also concider Rangers. Elite: Fire Dragons FA: Jetbikes + Vypers BlkTom wrote:Man, no real idea right now as the new codex is just out in pre-Orders. Still troop choices yes, but function pretty much as scoring FA and for some reason I'm used to slot them according to their using in table instead of FOC. My mistake for misleading

So what exactly should I go and buy today? I have about £60 to spend:
I am thinking to see if my LGS still has a 10 pack DA so i get more bang for my buck.
A farseer and warlock set simply since i love those models in there.

It will mean changes, but still it's mostly uprgades to 6th so you can't go wrong with Farseer and some DA.
But still, you lose nothing by waiting for a week. And you could buy the codex

Right back to this thread:
I have decided to pick up the battle force and my friend got me the wraithknight for my birthday! I got the codex and am still deciding for the hq choice ( I thought a farseer would be the best bet).
So, in total I will have this to start an army.
10 Guardians
5 Dire Avengers
1 Vyper
1 Wave Serpent
1 Wraithknight

Wraithblades are awesome, with a spiritseer which is nice and cheap for a lvl2 psyker they becme troops, which are super though and very damagy. Guardian jetbikes are also very worth their points. I like Dark Reapers too, their 48" range is pretty awesome and they have 2 str5 ap3 shots each so they can wreck light vehicules and own space marines, plus they can now be 10 per pack, put them in an aegis defense line with a team of 20 guardian with 2 brightlances led by a spirit seer to man the icarus lascannon with his Bs5 and maybe a wraithlord or wraith knight to guard them and its a nice core to your army. The spiritseer allows your wraithblades/guards to be troops so you can get some super solid troops to fill up the rest of the points. The Darkreaper exarch can also get 2 flack missile shot to help with AA

What would be the best way to kit the models from the battleforce?
NB: I have decided to give the wraithknight a sun cannon and a scattershield for that 5+ invul. However I think the standard loadout is also pretty good on its own.

The new battleforce? Guardians - with a scatter laser HW choice. Avengers - twin-linked catapults on the exarch Serpent - twin-linked scatter lasers or star cannons IMO on the top, Shuriken cannon underneath Viper - any HW on the top (SL to twin link stuff and massed S6 shots, BL for tank hunting, SC for cheap and efficient, EML coz it's an EML or Star cannon for 2 AP2 shots), underslung Shuricannon for more dakka. With the wraithknight - the standard loadout is great for tank/MC hunting. Leaves it a little too squishy for my happiness but none the less is killy. For a suncannon/shield combo - add 1 shoulder mounted scatter laser to twin-link the suncannon. For HQ's: Farseer as stock, feel free to kit with a singing spear. Good psyker now that they're mastery 3 and access to lots of powers. Spirit seer - this baby is nasty. Only 2 wounds leave survivability to be desired and it will ultimately rely on having wraith-buddies to key it alive. It is also the only way to get wraiths as troops and get runes of battle powers onto the wraith units (2+ wraithguard? yummy) Autarch - eh. YMMV. Reserve modifiers useful when using flyers Warlocks - these aren't an HQ choice as such, they're a unit taken once per detachment and you can give the warlocks to guardian units (jetbikes, storm, defenders, support batteries). They're nasty little force multipliers and have some great powers at their disposal. Phoenix Lords - some good, some average. YMMV and up to your play style Other names dudes - YMMV incredibly. All have their own levels of shenanigans. Illic in particular. They help theme a force around a craftworld or playstyle. Avatar - not my cup of tea but a lot of other peoples. IMO for the force you have - a farseer with a singing spear (add in the spirit stones of arlatharn or whatever it is if you are intending on using Runes of Fortune powers) is probably a good option.

So far the effectiveness of 10 Wraithblades with Ghost Axes:
Tanked 2 Leman Russ squadrons (including the battle cannons and the triple plasma variant); whilst also getting wailed on by everything imaginable in a Fortress of Redemption. Only to get into CC with the tanks and open them up.
2000 points worth of Necrons with Forgeworld additions. Got into CC with a court of Lords and opened them up.
Killed a GUO.
Killed Angrath the Gargantuan Bloodthirster in an Apoc game (with the help of Iranna the Spirit Seer).
Ate a Hammerhead, pathfinders and scored after 3 turns of walking towards a 2000 point Tau gunline and overwatch!
And counting............ |

Why DAs in a Serpent when Guardians do the same job better but with Conceal are more survivable, with a spear they are the same points and have an AT option at range, without the Warlock they just do exactly the same for less points...

Well, I must admit that Guardian Defenders got a boost in the new edition. They are much cheaper than DAs and their shooting can be devastating at short range.
However, I wouldn't count too much on conceal since it need to be casted. Sticking them in a Serpent first or into cover would definitely help.
Moreover, a large blob of Guardian Defenders with 2 scatter lasers, say, should be able to hold its own against all kinds of threats ( FMCs, deep strikers, outflankers). Its only downside is the low leadership.
