I went to an insane sale by one collector who no longer plays. 60000-65000 points of Imperial guard for sale.
Here is what it looked like : http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/bnc/tag/3826400544.html
He is doing a second day and has about half of it left. Prices were very good. Baneblades were $50, squads 10 for $10. There was also tons of sprues of bits for Imperial guard. If you are in the Vancouver area, it might worth a visit tommorow as even if he has half left, it was impressive. Most painted to tabletop quality.

He bought 65k of Guard, built a ton of it, cast some of his own stuff, painted a bunch of it, and got so monumentally dicked around by a local group that he just said "feth it, I'm out."

Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.

I've never seen such a thing! Either he's a hoarder, or he does just really enjoy modeling. I can't think of any reason one would need 65k of any army, from a gameplay standpoint. Maybe his gaming community got angry because he hogged all the IG. Tempted to drive the three hours north.

Man, the community around these games pisses me off more than some dumb decisions by management type people.
This is why I only play games against my close friends and brother. Anyone tries to dick around and they get punched in the dick, and then we carry on.

It's a bit of a running joke locally with the group he played with. Basically, they've got a good footprint, active on the internet and, for quite some time, had their name advertised at one of the bigger gaming stores in the region. They got a lot of the new players into their group by being at the location most newbies started out. The leadership of this group, however, is extremely elitist, and more than a touch corrupt. Charging frankly ludicrous monthly fees, and pocketing most of the money which is advertised as being for "new terrain and group items". They've also been known to sabotage various sales; saying all sorts of nasty things about sellers and their models to try and lower the price, and even go so far as to try and sabotage other gaming groups; trying to get FLGS owners to turn on them and such. Hardcore WAACs too; agree to a friendly game, bring out a tailored, min-maxed, FW abusing list to destroy yours, and then charge you for the pleasure if you're not part of the group. I've seen them play a guy on his 3rd game using a force consisting of two battleforces with grey knight dreadnought drop pods backed up by draigowing.
Basically, royal dicks, the kind that even the dickiest section of the Tacitcs forum here would have trouble emulating. Thankfully, they've largely self-destructed; kicked out of the store they operated in, most of their members left, etc, but they pissed off this one fellow so much that he just didn't want to continue with it anymore. It's not the first time it's happened, but it is the first time on this scale. I don't know the exact details, but I do know that it is entirely due to frustration with this group.
What's even more of a shame is the seller shares a name with a Norse god, and is a generally pretty cool guy.

Thats just tragic. God, I pity you American players, seems to be so many TFGs over there.
What he should have done, instead of just selling it, is get everyone together who wants some IG, and play an enormous Apocalypse game against them lasting several days weeks years. Anything you kill you get to keep. Entry fee is $100. He'd make a fething fortune. Jesus, I'd probably fly over there (costing $2000) just to take part ~ the IG I win would be gravy. Maybe even team up with him to crush some donkey-caves and make them lose out on their entry fee...
Edit: Or just sell it piecemeal over a year or so. Gives him time to change his mind, and he'd get much more for it overall.

Look at the pictures. It's pretty obvious those are full-sized 40k vehicles. Imagining that they're absolutely tiny and not full-scale is a much easier pill to swallow though

I have a metric gakload of stuff, but i've been playing since RT. My yearly tithe to GW is actually relatively small, especially these days when prices are getting more and more obscene.
That said if the guy bought all that stuff over a short span of time (as the posts above seem to indicate) he has WAY too mch disposable income.

The sale took place in his warehouse, not his house, not his business, his own, personal warehouse.
Disposable income isn't something he's hurting for.

While the story behind the sale is sad, I think that post shows that there's two sides to that coin. I mean, the guy puts down ten grand on a guard army and then immediately quits after a couple of games?
That kind of fickleness and demand for instant gratification whatever the financial cost doesn't do much to flatter the seller here.
I mean, imagine being married to the kind of person who invests big, and then quits the moment things get tough between people. Imagine being divorced, rather...

I went back today and got more stuff, mostly bits. There was a lot left of the vehicles. He said that he would take pictures of what was left and sell it as a lot.
The seller was very friendly and had a great attitude and its unfortunate that he got the herded out of the game. I have never played before and only paint so its a bit discouraging for someone like myself who wants to try the game out. I would have zero tollerance for elitist douche bags. I have seen this scenario before in other hobbies where a group becomes proficient at something and develops an attitude. All new players are labelled as "noobs" etc and treated poorly which causes them not to come back. The ironic thing is that the elitists are basically cutting out the support from under them as the new players support and fuel the industry and provide new blood to the game. The player base shrinks and stores and tournaments dry up. The whole area becomes a dead zone.

No. Why would you say that? It's 100% obvious these are the normal models, looking at those pictures. Do you really even play 40k? Really? You would ask if those are Epic models? This puts every post you've ever made in question, man.
