I'm looking to purchase/build another heavy unit for my Chaos walker force. I certainly can make the brute work too. Without regards to my list (as that will change over time), which of the choices do you think is the strongest unit in a longterm tournament-like environment? Don't worry about the forgeworld issue, as the decimator is allowed in all the events I'm looking at.

Good point, added. I need to look at points/$ but it could work.

130 pts IIRC. Friend o' mine uses it, it is however a melee unit through and through.
It did seem to attract a lot of firepower/scare people into attacking it at all cost.

Cheap at least. I added the Chaos contemptor, which has +1 Hp and some god specific bumps.

The Decimator, when given the sign of nurgle, is pretty much immortal.

Defilers are useless, a mixed unit that has no clue what it wants to do, and is utterly boned by it's points cost.
Forgefiend, decent, useful, mass S8 shooting is nice and unlike Defilers it knows what it can and will do.
Helbrute, suffers from target saturation, and generally needs mobility that it cannot get.
Chaos contemptor, no longer as good as it is, the Decimator can do everything it can and more.
Decimator: Is freakin good, but slightly overcosted
Blood slaughterer: Never used
I made a list before, an Iron warriors list at 2000 where I took 3 decimators (with one butcher cannon) 2 heldrakes, 3 forgefiends, and some CSM troops with warpsmiths.
The amount of S8 shots was incredible, and fun to do.

The Blood Slaughterer I think. IIRC it's frontal AV13 and doesn't cost a metric arseton of points. The Decimator just costs way too much for a walker in 6E, the Contemptor is a little better but I could still think of better uses, and the rest being AV12 die hilariously quickly under 6E's HP rules.

Confirming the front AV 13 of th eBLood Slaughterer, and see previous post for point costs.
However its only ranged weapon is strange.

A walker that does not, cannot, and will never die when given the Mark of Nurgle and when you do kill it, the damn thing just gets back up next turn. And if you ignore it, it will tear apart something like paper.

so decimators are considered kinda sorta viable now? the last time I asked around about them, everyone said they were utter trash (this was shortly after the new CSM codex came out).

They regrow knocked off body parts and immobilized results, they can get IWND to laugh at your puny glancing hits, they have high frontal armor, daemonic saving throws, a load of nice weapons, and if wrecked they can simply get back in the fight later on like nothing happened.
They are expensive for the simple reason that it is going to remain in the game no matter what gets thrown at it.

right, I've read through the rules and had the same impression myself. the general opinion at the time, though, was that despite all this goodness they were still over-costed and fairly meh in actual play relative to other options with similar point values (predators, oblits, etc). if conventional wisdom has changed, I may have to take another look at these because the model is damn sexy

Luckily, Decimators are in the elites slot, which has much less competition given that the Elites slot has traditionally been a load of "meh" for the traitor legions.

They cost as much as a Land Raider at that point, only have a 1/6 chance to get back up (and a 1/6 chance to never get back up) and are only WS3/BS3.
Would you consider 220pts points for a WS3 BS3 S8 T9 (from the front only T8 from the sides and T7 from the rear) W3 I3 A4 Sv5+ IWND Monstrous Creature (with no guns except flamers) worth it? Because that's effectively what you are getting. Would you pay that even where any to-wound roll that exceeded the minimum required to wound it would cripple it or possibly even inflict Instant Death on it? On top of that, any ranged weapons you give it will reduce its Attacks profile and begin to dramatically increase its cost.
Most would not consider that a great buy. A Wraithlord will give you overall better stats (T8 all around, call it a wash, better WS/ BS/ Init/S and Sv but lower A and identical Wounds) and cost about half that.

Alright... though I dont play "competitive" lists all the time, I have used all of the things listed
Decimator > did it's job. Got shot at a lot, didnt care, then wrecked face in CC. Mission accomplished.
Defiler > Yes, it is expensive. I will never deny the cost of this thing keeps most people from using it. I am not most people. I love my defilers. I gladly pay the 225 points to kit it out with extra PF, the whips, and a dirge caster. General strategy with this is to walk forward while firing battle cannon at things it doesn't want to turn to paste in CC. Then it charges the thing it wants to paste in CC, and pastes the thing in CC. Terminators? w/e. Hammernators? Hey they die like marines if I didn't ignore their armor. Witches? The 3 that survived the battlecannon die. To repeat: Defilers are espensive, but they have YET to fail me.
Maulerfied > Defiler without the battlecannon part. For some reason this is one of the biggest fire magnets in my entire khorne army
Forgefiend > Used it twice, and being the superstitious chaos player that I am... I dont use it any more. 1st go I went with the triple ectofiend, and it promptly killed itself turn 1. 2nd go I used the dakkafiend, and it accompolished killing both rhinos the opponent had, then couldnt kill a PA astartes to save his life. Survived the game though... wooo.......
Helbrute > Also used it twice, and for same reasons as the Forgefiend. Kitted it for CC, and it kept getting the shooting crazed result. Kitted it for long range, and it would get the CC result. The dice gods have spoken, and helbrutes shall be fielded no more with me.
Slaugterers > OHGODYES. Used them once. A single squadron of 3 ate 2/3 of a space wolves army. thats a 2500 pt space wolves army. They ate them. Like with a fork.
Contemptor > Used once. Felt like a really expensive maulerfiend that couldnt move quite as fast. Then again if I use walkers I kit them for CC, because BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD and stuff.

Yep, that AV12 is simply too much to handle.
My favorite walker has been a Nurgle Soul Grinder with the battlecannon, but you gotta take allied demons. It's like a less expensive, more durable Defiler with a skyfire autocannon.

How do you guys play the Blood Slaughterer's Rage of Khorne rule combined with the Rage rule? On a roll of 5 or 6 it gets 3 attacks on the charge, otherwise the Rage rule is followed and so it gets 2 attacks?
