Exactly. I intentionally brought her up as its not a party thing. Stop it already. Its sexism.
Right but no one is saying Michelle Bachmann is an ugly lesbian. And no one is saying that her husband is a homosexual because ... he's a prominent male? So it seems like your theory is that Azazel is riffing off the notion that men married to prominent women must be "lesser," which itself entails a prejudice on your part about homosexuality. Near as I can tell, what Azazel was referring to is Mr. Bachmann's very stringent anti-gay position, which he claims indicates the man is closeted. That's a stereotype for sure but it has nothing to do with sexism.
So again, it seems like you are just trying to turn the tables without much of an appreciation for actual sexism.
Nope. I'm riffing that invariably critics of a female candidate will attack her not based on her credentials and ideas (some of which are uniquely interesting in this case) but related to sex, or imagery.
Again when was the last time a male candidate was attacked in this fashion?

The original comment was that Bachmann's husband coming out would damage her image, not because she is a woman but because she's seems to identify homosexuality as the opposite of healthy family values. Still not seeing the sexism.

This is delightful. I think Michele Bachmann is one of the worst legislators by nearly any way of measuring it you might choose to pick, and the whole country is better off with her gone.
Lets put aside the fact that she is willing to repeat anything she sees without an ounce of research (or, often, common sense, like the alleged $200 million a day trip to India where we were also moving 35% of the navy). She's been a congresswoman for what - almost 8 years? Not a single bill she's sponsored has been signed into law. Zero, no one. She obviously is more interested in seeing herself on the news instead of actually legislating, and now she has plenty of time to do it.
So far as her husband, I find the whole speculation regarding his sexuality distasteful and irrelevant*.
*but not sexist.

You know, I've seen you make some divorced from reality statements in my time, but this one is just out there.
Do you remember when Anthony Weiner had his underpants scandal and all the buzz was that Huma Abedin was a lesbian? Or of course as Manchu pointed out, people have claimed Hillary Clinton was a closeted lesbian for nearly 25 years now. How do these not count?
I know that Michelle Bachmann is a Republican so you're obligated to come out swinging for the team, but you're really going to have to come up with something better.

David Duke was a State Representative, but never a US Senator or Representative. He did place 2nd for his Governor run, though. The incumbent governor (Buddy Roemer) came in 3rd, which shows what people thought of his party switch while still in office.

As a conservative, I'm glad to see her go. As many people have already pointed out, stupid people in congress is bad regardless of party affiliation.
Actually, I'm sure the Michelle Bachmann is intelligent in her own way. She certainly managed to win election and managed to be a contender (at least semi-seriously) for the Republican nomination. Maybe that's just political cunning.

When a person talks about basic policy issues like the economy, then yeah, whether their spouse is a bit feminine is irrelevant and not fit for comment, even for comedy.
But when a person makes anti-homosexuality a key issue, well then they got to talking about sex and private matters, and that certainly makes them and their husband fit for jokes about their possible closeted homosexuality.

IMO it only becomes an issue when
A.) The person in question runs for, or is elected to, public office, and
B.) Pushes, endorses, or votes for sexuality-driven legislation (like DOMA or whatever).
Until both of those are satisfied, I don't really care what you do with your junk or do to someone else's junk. It's between him and Michele.
But enough about her husband.
Let's talk more about Michele! Did you know she has a remarkable 25% "pants on fire" rating from Politifact?
My personal favorite:
"After the debate that we had last week, PolitiFact came out and said that everything I said was true."
Close second: When she demonstrated that she is a master of stealth.

She had a kind of political crazy that sold well for a while there, when people were freaking out about 'omg gay people want actual equality' and she rode that wave in to federal politics. But her crazy and basic inability to deliver politically didn't make her suited to the long term game, and it really . In the last election, despite Romney beating Obama by 15 points in her district, she won her own election by just 1 point.
Basically she was left with nothing more than a series of close run elections just to hold on to a very conservative seat, and whenever she did lose it her personal brand would shot. So instead she's getting out now, while her brand is still high among her fellow crazies, and she can use it to start making money on whatever.
Leaving politics is perhaps the first piece of political cunning she's shown.

I for one am not pretending it is some "witch-hunt" against Michelle Bachmann, my post concerned her husband rather than her. I'm just not in favour of people taking cheap pot shots are the families of elected officials. So I would appreciate it if you would not mis-represent my intentions, and thinking that my statement is supposed to represent a wider spectrum than my own opinion, it's more than a little discourteous of you. Especially when I am pro-gay rights, and have made posts to the effect on Dakka (such as the DOMA thread)
But if you think that objecting playground type mocking of someone's sexuality because he appears mildly effeminate is " 'political correctness gone mad' " then you and I have a very different outlook on things.

Many years from now, when historians look back and ask how the Chinese were able to dethrone America as the global superpower, two things will spring to mind:
1) America stopped reading the Great Gatsby
2) Michelle Bachmann!
Getting the least qualified person and propelling him to high office, was a trademark of the British Army in the 19th century (Wellington being the exception)
but how were people like Bachmann, Palin, Mitt Romney, Al Bore, John Kerry, and even BH Obama allowed to hijack a superpower?
And before anybody points out, the UK politicians are equally as bad.

The 6th District that Michele is from is the most conservative in Minnesota and went 15% for Romney in the last Presidential election. She won her seat again by 1+% of the vote.
Her stepping out of the race is a benefit to the Republican Party as any old cardbaord Repblican Cut-out will do really well in the 6th. All the new candidate has to do is mouth the standard Republican talking points. I bet the Democratic challenger Jim Graves is fuming! His chances to win just dropped with Bachman out.
They did a lot better then the Wild did.

Curse you!
I didn't see this coming.

Jim Graves (The Democrat going against Bachmann) dropped out of the race too!
"She wasn’t representing the people of the 6th District appropriately, and now she won’t be representing them. There’s no way anyone could run and win who would be worse than Michele Bachmann. So we accomplished that task."
I have a bad feeling about this.

It's like the ultimate challenge to the universe, second only to "Could this day get any worse?"
