So, I've been having a real problem coming up with a color scheme for my Tau. I want to use cool colors, in an alien, inhuman color scheme. (Nothing camo, nothing muted.) I saw Dan Harden's army in the April 2013 White Dwarf and thought it looked pretty sweet, as well as unconventional.

It seems, from the tutorial, like it's low on difficulty, although very time consuming. Still, I want other people to like my armies, so what do you guys think? What's your opinion on the scheme? What's your opinion on it? Any advice for doing it?

Get a good edging brush and plan alot of spare time

I used to play BA and had a pure death company army.
Black models, with grey edging and light grey highlights on the edging.
I got sick of it after 30 models.

Really does take serious time, but the result looks good.

Yeah it looks all right but edge highlighting is maddeningly tedious and not to mention that particular scheme will have idiots shouting "OMG A TRON ARMY!!" every time you field it, just like how people in my GW were doing when the WD released. Ugh.

I dunno my first impression was a Transformers Decepticon army, but different strokes for different geeks. That riptide looks like it wants to transform into a cassette player and talk in a synthesized voice.

So...I'm getting the impression that most people think it looks silly?

Pretty sure everyone thinks it looks great, it'll just take a long time to paint and garner lots of pop culture references.

And there is absolutely nothing wrong with looking a little silly. Warhammer In the Year of Our Lord 40,000 is at its heart a pretty silly game that gets misplaced sometimes in all the grimdarkness.

Hey jim, did you want me to show you how to do that crack effect for my battle suits and fire warriors? PM me if you do.

I did blue highlights, it meant the highlights didnt have to be as common.

The scheme looks good from a distance but close up it starts to look a lot less striking and a little messy and rushed.

I personally think it's ridiculous. They're line-highlighting for the sake of line-highlighting. Parts that are in shadow get the same level of line-highlight as a sharp angle facing the light source. That's why you get the "Tron" look and it looks really unnatural, like an anime toy or something.

I don't really like it. It looks way too artificial, even for robots.

But you could probably get an approximation of that style in 5% of the time by just drybrushing.

But it's not a highlight. It's deliberately garish and it's blue on purple for gods sake.

I wasn't too sure if it was deliberate or not, that's why. Hence why I said it looks ridiculous, because they're highlighting for the sake of it...

I like it, and the grey is really well painted. But then I like that its different, I can't stand the same boring schemes

I like it. It's very different. It doesn't concern with the areas that are shadowed and the ones that should be highlighted. It's as if it has energy lines all over the suits.

It's striking and it should look good on a table. And yes, it's pretty different, I guess because not many have the patience to edge highlight everything.
