Hi all,

I'm trying to make some jungle looking trees and sandbags, any tips or suggestions? I've seen the twisted wire etc, but no idea for foilage and so on.

For robustness, clump foliage or lichen.

For looks, sea foam and 'Coarse turf' type foliage, or for the lazy / time constrained woodland scenics do 'fine leaf foliage' which is basically this.

You can also do palm leaves by cutting ovals out of card, folding in half, then slicing slits into the sides.

Sand bags are really easy.

Get some green stuff from your local GW, mix a stick and roll it up in a sausage, then flatten it with a ruler.

Then use that ruler to separate sandbag sized parts from the flat line you've made, twisting your hand 30 degrees to each side to make the curves in the bags

Finally, cover then in a woven cloth fabric to get sandbag texture.

Check out the scratch builders section on www.antenocitisworkshop.com for loads of clump foliage and dried leaves.

Scipio has told you the best way to make sandbags but I'd suggest air dry clay instead, much cheaper.

For tree trunks, I got quite a good result by coating some polystyrene tube with GS.

Fill the ends and hack it up a bit and you get a reasonable damage effect.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

To get a start on jungle terrain, get some plastic aquarium plants.

If you are looking for some cheap ones, google "fancy plant mats".

If you don't like the "plastic" look to them, hit them with a matte varnish.

best of luck!

I use aquarium scenics as most of my terrain. It's cheaper than buying real terrain (GW at least) and is pre-painted and usually looks decent.

I've got more than enough terrain to build four or five tables with, and I've not spent morethan 800-ish.

I also use Forces of Valour sandbags and walls, as these work wonderfully as wall segments.
