Hey so I have been thinking about getting in to a second army, and love the Karamazov model. This is really the only reason I want to start another army, because of this model.

So I was thinking, how is the best way to use him? Discuss tactics both good ones and negative. Ones you may have seen or heard about. My initial idea with this HQ is to put him in cover with a large retinue of either psykers or heavy bolters and use his Orbital Relay on interceptor squads.

Other than that, I dont know what else would synergize well with him.

You could play what I refer to as the 'Trollamazov' build

HQ - Coteaz (for troop henchmen)
HQ - Karamazov

Take 1 - 2 troops choices of crusaders and run them into the enemy's elite infantry (Tactical Terminators, Chaos Terminators, MEQ, Crisis Suits and the like), and drop the Bombardment on them when they are right next to the target and shrug it off with your 3++

Rest of Army is to flavour.

Bonus Points if, when you drop the template, you slam for fist on the table and shout, BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY!

Haha this is fantastic. You could actually run a gk horde list and use them all as sacrifices

Land Raider and use the lower Str blast that cannot hurt it. Bonus is that you can place it on a corner so the enemy can never be sure exactly where you will hit.

Marbo would also be good.

Additionally I have been wanting the model so I can use it on SiNW conscripts. In fact not even to kill enemies just so I can remove them when I want...yeah.

Soladins and Crusaders seem to be the standard option. Thawn is a good one to synergise with Karamazov. Another one I like, though it is unclear rules wise, is to use Storm Ravens, as the blast automatically misses the Raven but will hurt the stuff underneath; the debate is whether or not you can attempt a shot that will auto-miss, something that the rules aren't clear on.

Callidus assassin makes for a good target, can get really close and even has a chance to live through the shot. If possible, get Ignores cover saves from divination and turn karamazov into a serious threat to anything.

Stormraven is out, seeing as nothing can actually be directly underneath it. Dreadknight isn't going to achieve much, the shot would have to be centred on it, and there's not a lot of space outside the base of the DK that would be hit. Marbo is potentially out, Allies of Convenience are technically not friendly models, bit of a grey area there.

Crusaders or Terminators are probably your best bet.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Whoops, forgot that one of the options is a potential multiple blast. In which case the DK is back in play.

Not sure about the Raven though...

I think you need to read the flyer rules again. As long as a flyer is zooming models can pass freely under the hull so as long as they end their move at least 1" away from the base.

Just for clarification, you only get the 3++ save against the template because you are benefiting from the Storm Shield in close combat, correct?

Model them with their shields held over their heads, and watch understanding dawn on your opponent's face. Priceless.

When I eventually do that army, I will make sure to do this, thanks for the idea.

Though I can see what you are getting at.

Taking primary of Imperial guard with two CCS w/ MoO and then Karamazov allied can grant a bunch of Pi-plate bombs. But Karamazov is so expensive that really you could get two basilisks instead. You only sacrifice the perks of infantry in cover, being placed inside buildings, etc.
