Actually made me laugh with that one!

My book arrives tomorrow, and I plan on doing with it what I did with 4th, 5th and some of 6th edition: Collect what's cool and treasure the look on peoples' faces as I crush them into the dirt
I may have impulse bought some Howling Banshees though, so I may live to regret that... but we'll see...

So far I think it's a very strong codex. I think Battle Focus is a HUGE buff to the army and makes your guys very maneuverable and fast, even when on foot. A few things are a bit of a disappointment like Runes of Warding all but disapearing (Should have just been toned down. 12 inch range or something), but all in all I think it's quite good. So far I've played two games with it and both of those games have resulted in overwhelming victory. Wave Serpents and Battle Focus really allow you to run circles around your enemy for the most part, and even though our guns are short range, we're fast enough to close the distance, and can get enough shots off to really put the hurt on with what is essentially basic guns with rending.

Actually the average for the army now in terms of BS skil is 4 including guardians and such. Makes sense for beings who have be alive for millenia being as good a shot as space marines are.

19th Krieg Siege Army 7500pts.
40k/HH Night Lords 5000pts.
Orks Waaaghmacht Spearhead 2500pts.

No, it's not rending. It's kinda half rending - Rending without the extra penetration bonuses, so auto-wound on 6s at AP2. But it is present on even the tiniest of Shuriken weapons.

But yes, can't assault after running, just like everybody else.

It's the best codex the eldar have EVER had. They got a ton of new units and huge buffs across the board. Sure they dropped the ball on some things (Howling Banshees) but it wouldn't be GW if some things in the codex didn't suck.

And of course if everything WAS awesome, it'd be GK all over again and we'd never hear the end of the bitching.

I wouldn't call 3 units and a character "a ton".

I'm happy with the book. The only changes I would like to see would be Falcons made into dedicated transports for the Aspect Warriors and Banshees to be able to assault from vehicles.

Other than that I have no real complaints. I'm kinda confused with the Warp Spider love. If they're so awesome why is everyone eatting up all the Striking Scorpions on Ebay?

I plan on running:

Spritseer, Spiritseer, 5 Wraithguard in WS, 5 Wraithguard in WS, 5 Wraithblades, 5 Wraithblades, 6 Avengers, 6 Avengers, 2x Falcons and 6Dark Reapers.

That'll put me at 1841pts. It won't be the greatest list ever but it should be fun to paint and use with friends.

Phil Kelly of course!!!: Daemons(40k), CSM, DE, SW, Tyranids...
Just adding a little game balance one codex at a time.
Kelly didn't write Tyranids. Also SW were hardly balanced

Whenever someone is immediately dismissive of a new codex, I think back a few months to the CSM release. I don't think anyone realized right away how good the Heldrake was. The usual response was "Meh, I'd rather have a Helltalon."

To anyone who immediately disliked the Eldar codex: maybe we just haven't discovered the best combos or the real cheese yet.
That was before the Baleflamer was on a 360 degree turret.

Indeed. The Heldrake was already seen as really good before, but the 360* turret basically removed any thought required to use it as a fixed forward weapon at least would have incurred issues with flyer movement.

That actually would be their 2E book, broke the game so hard they made 3rd edition to reset the game

Ahhh the memories. Skimmers with the pop-up rule, Swooping hawks with Virus grenades, bucket loads of sustained fire dice ... I have to stop now because I'm getting a little misty eyed. lol

Edit: I just googled ablutions and apparently it does not including dropping a duece. I should have looked it up early sorry for any confusion. - Baldsmug

That's what you'd say in those days, "give me five bees for a quarter", is what you'd say in those days. And you'd go down to the D&D shop, with an onion in your belt, 'cause that was the style of the time. So there I was in the D&D shop..."

Don't forget Warp Spiders with huge template weapons that absolutely murdered anything they touched, marines saving on 5's against shuriken weapons, and ridiculous psychic abilities

The difference that 40k wasn't the serious business that 3rd edition made it become. Somewhere along the line, it stopped being a game and became a lifestyle.

I'm really happy with the new Codex. It's got a lot of units that are viable, so it really adds a great variety to any potential lists. True, the world has not discovered the best combos as of yet, but from what I've seen so far one competitive Eldar list could be very different from another. Normally what happens when I buy I codex is that I read it and churn out a list in a few days. I'm struggling to decide which of the four I've written so far is the best. I like that.

Eldar also got a lot of cool new toys, such as Battle Focus and tons of pseudo-rending-love and I'm glad to see that some old units, such as Spiders and the Autarch, have been made much better, and are now in contention with the classics and the new units. Yet, the Codex remains balanced.

Overall, I'm very pleased.
