EDIT: Although PS+ being required to play multiplayer online is pretty bad. Considering their direct competition, it doesn't look too horrible, but I'll have a hard time being convinced to play multiplayer on a PS4 when I can just play for free on Steam.

The PS Plus fee is an interesting development. I can only hope that the money really does go towards making a more stable network infrastructure so that the PSN can work to the best of its ability.

None of the stuff shown at Sony's press conference really wowed me or caught my eye(there are very little exclusives on both systems to be fair--which is a very good thing), excepting Killzone which was already on my radar.

I'm intrigued to see exactly what Destiny will get as "exclusive content" which was mentioned. I'm hoping that it's not huge swathes of the game left out but rather early access to DLC instead.

They aren't requiring online DRM, but they have stated it is up to the publishers.

So I expect their DRM to basically look like what we have currently: online passes, etc.

I have no problem with paying for PS+ if they keep giving us free games and new monthly games to try.

I kinda am but neither of them are really interesting enough for me to want them...
I might end up getting one of them with my housemate but that will probably be when they drop in price a bit.

Well, it's pretty much what everyone else is doing right now.

EDIT: On another note, my biggest disappointment with the PS3 is something we already knew: no backwards compatibility. On one hand, they're doing the right thing by supporting the PS3 through to the PS4's launch and eventual complete takeover. On the other, it'd be much easier to ease the PS4 into rotation if it could also play PS3 games. Granted, one of the major issues with this is the horrible decision they made all the way back to use the cell (what's really funny is that Microsoft seems to have the same attitude now that Sony did back then), so it is understandable, but it is still unfortunate.

On the other hand, Microsoft doesn't have to deal with such technological limitations, and I'm surprised that they wouldn't opt to include some form of BC. It could have helped given them some form of leg up on the PS4.

Yeah thats one of the big things that blindsided me about the Xbone was no BC. There really isn't a reason not too. Just seems like a stupid decision to make.

And considering the size of the damn thing, you'd think they'd be able to fit any extra required parts in. I don't think many people will miss the cable box that needs to be attached to a cable box to function.

Speaking of size, I was really surprised with the size of the PS4. It'll probably run hot enough to cook off of.

The IGN guys I was listening to for E3 ( they could very well be wrong) said Sony was using more expensive/quality parts to avoid that problem. Which makes the price tag difference even more... strange.

Oh, there's no doubt in my mind that Sony is selling the console at a considerable loss (just how much, I would like to know). Most consoles are sold as such (except for Nintendo, since unlike the other console producers out there, they can't afford to, what with not having successful non-gaming divisions to provide income to support such investments), at least initially. If I remember, even the PS3, with it's insane $600 price tag, was sold at a loss (and all told, when you consider that stand-alone bluray players were going for $800-1000 at the time, you were actually getting a deal).

And as silly as it sounds, I would not be at all surprised if they pulled out the final cost of the system at the last possible minute after hearing Microsoft's press conference. Granted, it's not entirely likely, but with how aggressive Sony's being lately, I'd not gainsay the possibility.

Yeah Sony's not pulling any punches right now. Good on them. Microsoft screwed up hard and they were smart enough to not walk into the same hole.

I wonder how much the loss is too. The can definitely afford it with how many things they have their hands in.

Damn, at that price point, with Diablo 3 seemingly a console exclusive I can see me grabbing one regardless. Although still need a launch line up.

I doubt the launch lineup will be anything spectacular. Definitely not as bad as the PS3's, but not something I would hold my breath for.

Aye, Diablo 3 would probably be enough mind. It'll be nice to finally play Disgaea again, been ages since I've played it, obviously skipping PS3 last gen and all.

When they announced the release date last week it also included the fact it was also for the 360. No date for the PS4 version.

Ah, now that would change things.

Hopefully the rest of E3 will reveal more games of interest then.

It looks like someone knocked the xbox one sideways a bit. PS4 was going to be the same box style but Microsoft had got there first and they didn't have enough time to redesign the whole thing, so they just made it Rhombus shaped.

I wonder how big it's going to be, it's not exactly a convenient shape.

Did you watch the press conference? It's pretty small.

IMO as it is now, PS4 is the better console but Xbone seems to have the better line up. (for my tastes at least anyway)

Sony Stated earlier in the year that the PS4 would definitely not be sold at a loss. The hardware is not subsidized whatsoever. That is why the low pricepoint has come as such a massive shock to the journalists.

Well imo the box looks absolutely gorgeous, parallelogram is a beautiful shape. The xbone was quite nice looking mind, just a little BIG and bland. I am a little disappointed with the games but tbh most the games i play on 360 are multiplatform and that's because 360 is the better platform. Well it looks like the Ps4 will be the better platform for the next gen. The launch will be backed up with Planetside 2 and warframe which are both free to play and may keep the people entertained until the next year.

Nope, so it doesn't look too bad in size, but I'm with Sol and KC, both consoles are fugly things.

Paying extra for multiplayer doesn't bother me, I play pretty exclusively single player these days.

The multiplatform games are definitely more important to me than the exclusives, I just care about having a box to play them on that won't throw up barriers to me trying to play them.

Hopefully a 3rd party will make a PS4 controller shaped a bit more like an Xbox one.

IDK if the PS4 will be subsidised. Sony are very good at designing and making consumer hardware, and they can lay out contracts for the chips and so on for many millions of units over 5-10 years, so it's possible that using what is effectively PC hardware can be made to sell at a low price.

Some of the difference to the XBox price is the lack of a camera, however you get a free headset. Not everyone wants a camera anyway. It's in the XBox set because you can't run the console without it, not because it is necessary for games.
