Hey all,

New to the hobby and i am starting by buying the Battleforce Box set of Necrons.

It comes with 20 Warriors
5 Immortals
5 Scarab Swarms
1 Ghost Ark

I am looking to make a 1000 point army off of this Box Set to help me learn how to play the game.

Thanks for any help!!!

Welcome to the game and to Necrons

In terms of the box, it's a good starting core to your army; however, in terms of general points, it only provides 535pts.

Since you're getting started and looking for a 1000pt army, I would recommend the following:

1. Purchase an Annihilation Barge
This kit allows you to build either an Annihilation Barge or a Catacomb Command Barge. The Annihilation Barge is awesome and the kit also includes an Overlord which regularly would cost you about $20 US. So this is a huge deal and will yield you about 200-250 more points to add to your list.

2. Purchase a box of Immortals
Immortals come in boxes of 5 so buying 1 more box will take the squad from the battleforce and max it out. Tesla Immortals are awesome. This will provide you another 85pts.

3. Purchase a box of Wraiths
Wraiths are solid hand to hand model and comes with 3 models for a pretty solid unit. That'll be another 105+ points.

After all of that and factoring in wargear, you should be around 1000pts.

Not going to happen. First off you would not have an HQ - though you could highly modify a warrior into an overlord it probably would not look that good. Second, the necron battle box only contains 505 points if your build the Ghost Ark or 565 points if you build the Doomsday Ark. If you want 1000 simple points buy the battleforce, an overlord, a box of pretorians, and another box of immortals. Build the pretorians as crypteks (not a typo, it is much cheaper than buying x5 finecrap crypteks) and the ark as a doomsday ark you should be around 1000-1250 depending on overlord war gear and cryptek loadouts. Tons of other things you could do to bring the battleforce to 1000, but they may be more expensive.

Edit: the post above would make a more competitive list, but it is also more expensive.

Approximately how many points would the HQ be, if it is an overlord?

A standard overlord is 90pts and can have a number of war gear added to him. Maxed out (given all war gear and upgraded weapon) he is 270pts.

I second the purchase of the Anni Barge, plus an immortal box if you can afford it. But, by using 5 warriors from the Battleforce, you can build both 5 immortals and 5 deathmarks from the immortal box.

Then, buy a Scythe rather than 3 wraiths. It will give you more options.

If you find yourself wanting more normal lords or crypteks, buy a box of warriors and a box of lychguard/praetorians. Make 5 Lych or Praetorians, then use warrior legs and chests with the remaining bits from the lych box to make crypteks and lords.

it makes me kind of nervous not to have the wraiths there though, because then i would be seriously lacking in the melee department...my friend is collection dark eldar, from what i gather his tactic thus far is getting in close (quite fast) and *meleeing* my shooters to death because they have hardly any melee options...

If you were planning to take on DE with 3 wraiths, my suggestion would be - DON'T. If you want wraiths, you'll need to buy two boxes for a squad of 6. They are good, but not that good.

As others have said, Annihilation barge is a great 2nd purchase. Will give you a Lord as your compulsory HQ, and an awesome vehicle. Another 5 immortals would also be a great buy, they can run with your lord and a resurrection orb. You'll be s little way of 1000 points, but at this point i would add whatever takes your fancy, 2nd barge, wraiths, etc. As a marine player, 3 Wraiths are terrifying at this points level!

Really? Thanks for the tip

Still wouldn't take them vs DE - too much volume and poisoned!

This!

At 1k, DE are going to likely have a couple of venoms with trueborns. Three wraiths will get splinter cannoned to death. The pure VOF and range 36" would need a full squad to make it anywhere. Best bet is to keep them hidding behind a ghost ark or AB and use them defensively to intercept units. Make sure you get the charge because you don't want to give them the extra attacks.

To be honest, if he is going to assault you, that isn't that bad for you. To get to you by T2 he would have to turbo those skimmers meaning no shooting. If you get first turn he will have to go through 2 rounds of your shooting. AV10 vs crons means big boom booms. Throw a couple of ABs in the mix and he will have to think about the AV13 spam. Ravagers would be the biggest issue at that point, with three dark lances.(if he brings them, then they will be prime targets out the gate. Good scarab food too) I would be more worried about vechile spam and nightshields than I would a DE strike team.
