Outside of 1-2 battle reports online I have never seen imperial guard stormtroopers used at any of my local independent games stores, games workshop or local tournaments. With IG codex coming in next year or more do you foresee them buffed to a competitive level? I feel the point cost is why no one ever uses them. I don't have my rulebook on me atm but if I recall its something like 86 pts for 4-5 models. Upgrading them with meltas/plasma your looking at another 30-50 points or more. I'd also like to see a rule added where they could be taken as a troop slot under certain conditions. How often do you see Storm Troopers in your local area. Did you feel they were effective?

They are effectve as a suicide mission squad. A friend plays IG and he has Stromtroopers ready to deep-strike without scatter to destroy whatever target he chooses with it's arsenal of melta (unless he has some serious unluck with the dice). But that's it, after they Deep-strike, they will usually die because the poor guys will be left in the open... well, I guess they knew the risks when they were signed up for the suicide mission

Or that, yes, I knew they had some scatter shenanigan! Yeah, it's pretty effective alright those stormtroopers have quite a list of destroyer enemy armor

They're okay, but unfortunately, they're generally outclassed by Veterans (and only get 2 special weapons...?).

They're overpriced and under-stat'd currently. As is, they pay out the nose for AP3 on guns that have trouble wounding most things where that would matter, in addition to being exceedingly short ranged. Even at optimal range, they're merely trading wounds evenly against an equally costed or cheaper MEQ unit (while the MEQ unit has far greater flexibility) and if cover is involved the equation shifts right back in the MEQ's favor.
On top of that they get a Pistol/CCW combo...but are WS3 S3 I3 with no CC special rules and remain LD7 (8 on sergeant). Their only useable purpose is as a Deep Striking min/max'd suicide melta squad.
Will they get fixed? Stormtroopers have had issues of not really being worth it in every list since 3rd edition, so who knows. It'd be nice, but I wouldn't expect it. These guys are supposed to be the best soldiers in the Imperium outside of the Space Marines, elite commandos that brutally storm enemy positions to open gaps for the rest of the line or eliminate a specific battlefield threat.
Personally I'd like to see them something like this
120 pts for a squad of 10 including Sergeant.
WS4 BS4 S3 T3 I3 A2 Ld8 (9 on Sergeant) Sv4+, HotShot lasguns be S3 AP5 Assault 3 Pinning 18" (instead of S3 AP3 Rapid Fire 18"), Furious Charge, Infiltrate, Deep Strike (with reroll scatter). Access to 2 specials.
This would make them good, but not quite as min/max-ey as Vets (not having as many specials and being 50pts more per squad) but capable troops that actually fit the archetypal "Stormtrooper" role.
actually if they just made Veterans a platoon upgrade (pay+Xpts per unit to make them BS4) and replaced the Veterans entry with the Stormtrooper unit like this, that would be pretty cool.

I think they are awesome as an anti marine unit, they can be useful if your enemy has a devastator squad causing problems for your tanks as they can knock two or three of the lascannons or plasma guns out the game. Assuming they turn up before the lascannons have already done the damage but that's another issue.
But like you all say, suicide tactic. You might get lucky and last 2 turns

I just think there are far better anti-MEQ options in the codex. In fact the codex is saturated with anti-MEQ options. Basilisks, Colossi, LRBTs, Vets, Vendettas with Vets/CCS inside. All of those options are either more potent, cheaper, more durable or have multiple roles.
Stormtroopers are so lacklustre. The "Storm the Line" (I think) rule they have in an expansion, I can't remember what, would be a pretty cool addition. It allowed them to shoot, run then shoot again. I'd seriously consider them if they had than and a small points decrease.
I don't care about them getting into CC, at I3 S3 T3 4+ they're not going to make as much of an impact as if they got to shoot twice and reposition after deepstrike.

With denial units actually doing things now, like linebreaker, I find them slightly more useful. I always bring a 5-man with 2 meltas, and I'll occasionally bring another 5 man with 2 plasmas.

I would say that they're a situational unit, either being of great assistance or a hindrance. I agree that they are expensive, but if they are at the right place at the right time they will be worth it.

That's an apocalypse formation, where they can shoot, run, shoot (at a different target if they so choose) and the enemy suffers -1 to their cover savess, but you need 3 squads each flying into a valkyrie

Incidentally that is probably my favourite apocalypse formation. It's just so cool. But then I've only ever seen the formations that are included in WD, so I guess I haven't seen too many

It dosent help that they are pretty expensive models (cash wise) a box of 10 for $40 for zero posability. While I do love the models, I think they should be a bit beefier, heck, they could even have a 3+ save when you consider how heavy their armor looks compared to regular carapace, also that they cost as much as a regular space marine! Also, it would be quite fun if you could load them up with Det packs. I dont know why, but i imagine that would be singularly amazing.

Mass stormtrooper spam can be good as it basically opens up a second front anywhere on the table. click here to see some examples.
Being able to take an upfield objective and then weather the storm with carapace armor is a good thing. That said, even a single ten man squad can be very useful to all but guarantee you get linebreaker.

We houseruled that I can use a Valkyrie in my Siege Regiment army, so I put 10 Grenadiers in it, they're like Stormtroopers gear wise but they can take a Demo Charge, its pretty fun to use, but clocks at about 240 points for 10 Guardsmen xd

They have their uses, I run a ten man squad which I usually deep strike in the second last turn of a game, kill or maim a backline unit and then claim linebreaker or contest objectives.
They have been quite good for me in that role, won me a few games and handy at killing units like autocannon dreadnoughts, devastators, and light tanks.

Speaking of that I participated in a tourney where I ran at 1 vendetta. Was a 3 round tourney, first and second game my vendetta didnt come in until turn 4 and the last game in came in on turn 2 but was blown up turn 3. I really hated only running one of them because I would never get OotF or the vox thing for the aegis line just for 1 but I actaully needed it. lol
