Where are the Vampires Counts since 40k is just warhammer fantasy in space, are they split between the Night Lords and Blood Angels?

Like the great storm of the Horus Heresy, the forces of the True Gods will descend upon the Emperor's minions. The stars will tremble at their passage and the mighty armadas of the Warmaster Abaddon will bring annihilation to a hundred worlds. Know this, for these things will come to pass.

There are stars in space. Stars = Sun. Vampires hate sun.
Sun ≠ Vampire. So that Is my theory.

The problem is this assumption here.

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

Why not we have the tomb kings and their idiotic faction just to be true to the original. I'd like a vampire faction that would be less fantasy and more virus gene stealer like. Maybe a group of humans who through mutation don't posses a certain protein and can only get it through drinking blood. Through drinking blood they instantly know the persons thoughts and secrets allowing them to become amass huge amounts of power within the Imperium making them a huge problem for the Inquisition.

Much as how there are no Tyranids in WHFB, there is no major empire that correlates to the Vampire Counts.

I never liked the Tyranids I think they take away from the genestealers.

Blood Angels would be closest... but still not close. Not unless you take the Blood Dragons *alone* for their martial pride.

Night Lords are murderous Batmen.

The Night Lords have the same badge as the Vampire Counts and love the dark, maybe the Dark Eldar.

The genestealers are tyranids, just the same as gants and hive tyrants are. That's like saying I don't like humans, they take away from the Australians.

They weren't Tyranids until 2e redefined the Tyranids from a collection of Zoats and the occasional bugs into a semi-modern form.

Why are there no Wood Elves in 40k? 40k is basically Fantasy in space.

Ah well I stand by what I say, a lot of things from back then shouldn't exist, so I'm glad it's changed to what it is now (and has been for years if it changed in 2nd ed)

2e Genestealers also looked more or less modern as they were essentially 1st ed space hulk genestealers put into the Tyranid codex. The rest of the Tyranid army would then be molded to their aesthetic along with that of predatory dinosaurs for 3e.

Did they? That I didn't know.
But my point was that just because it isn't immediatley obvious doesn't meant they aren't there.
There after all actually vampires in 40k.

They were rolled into Codex Eldar as that one unit that had laser lances and rode on dinosaurs. Which is to say that was their main form of in game representation.

Well I suppose if we show GW that there's potential for money in it they could at least bring Dragon knights back.

Well some of the creatures beastmasters can bring are pretty much space dinosaurs so you're half way there!

Dark Eldar are a fusion of Dark Elves and Vampire Counts.

I always thought of Lizardmen and Tyranids being roughly analogous, aesthetically and structurally (semi-anthropomorphized lizard things with lots of little ones led by bigger, tougher ones).

In RT, there used to be a lesser warp creature called a "Vampyre", but unfortunately there's no Lexicanum article to show you - they were basically shape-shifting warp beasts that liked sneaking onto ships and feeding off the crew, IIRC.

There were vampires in an earlier edition of the game.
They were warp creatures though.

Haven't existed in 40k for about 20 years though.

Have these "vampires" been retconned out?

As for the traits associated with WHFB vampires, such as necromancy and control of undead hordes, that sort of thing could be done by a Chaos sorcerer.

Driven away from WH40K by rules bloat and the expense of keeping up, now interested in smaller model count games and anything with nifty mechanics.

IIRC there is some fluff about zombies in Dark Heresy...so why not vampires. I did up some fluff about a Dark Eldar/Vampire cult and didn't think it was too unbalacing since the Vampires were mostly HQ/Elite choices and Dark Eldars filled out the troops and other slots.
