I have 2 questions:

1. Would you take 3 Heavy Destroyers or 1 Triarch Stalker?
My lists is: 2 squads of Warriors backed up by Overlords with Resurrection orbs and crypteks with veil of darkness, with a third squad of 8 Warriors and a Lord with Resurrection Orb (this is a 2000-point list -- so there are 3 Doom Scythes in there and 12 Canoptek Wraiths as well)

2. When upgrading Destroyers to Heavy Destroyers, does at least 1 model in the squad have to remain a Destroyer? For example, if I want 3 Heavy Destroyers, can I simply have a squad of 3, or does it have to be 1 Destroyer and 3 Heavy Destroyers?

Thanks!

IMHO:

- If you have so many warriors, you might aswell take the Stalker because of the TL buff. It should help your overall army more than the Hvy Destroyers (which I like a lot). Just a quick note, your walker will probably be the first thing that dies. In most of the games I used it, it just gave first blood to my oponent, it's ridiculous. I hear when there's 2 of them it's much better, but never tried.

- You can have 3 Hvy Destroyers, no need for Destroyers.

Thanks that was very helpful! I'm worried about the First-Blood thing though -- as I feel that it's one of the most important Victory Points to aim for. I'll take it into account..

Having the TL ability of the walker is good; however, having the precision high strength low AP shots from Heavy Destroyers is my preference. If I had to choose one or the other. Warrior shots in tha quantity are great but having PE S9 AP2 shots can hit and IK many things in the game. Also, the heavy destroyers are have RP and make for a great Anti-tank/MC unit.

My single stalker has worked out well for me however not as good as my my Heavy Destroyers.

Edit - including after thought

When I use my stalker for the TL feature, I find that I'm using it more to augment another unit against a target than to be a threat itself. This isn't necessarily a bad way of using it; however, it leads to the realization that using it in this manner means it'll rarely ever take out a unit by itself. Simply by itself, it can take out 1 enemy at a time unless it assaults (which it's decent at thanks to QS and being a walker). 1 enemy at a time works but isn't very effective in which case it turns into a 150ish point of war gear that has a target painted on it.

I'm starting to become a Heavy Destroyer fan, especially with my meta starting to ramp up all the 2+ armor save MCs (riptides, dreadknights) as well as the wraithknight. They provide reliable high str and AP 2 shooting. One of the few things our army lacks. They also can double well as your anti-tank, plus anti-terminators if there's nothing better to shoot at. I think with the rise in MC use, there's room for heavy destroyers in some Necron lists, at least those that don't rely on spamming Scythes.

so all scoring is either deepstriking or walking... let me know how this works out. i've not brought my necrons off the shelf for a while and this is how they used to roll. albiet with bigger units but that was before 6th. if you find your stuff too slow you may want to try out the ghost ark. looks fun

Do both Crypteks have VoD? I didn't think that was permitted. If not...how are you running the 2nd one?

It's not. It's one specific type of wargear per court.

Seeing though that he has two overlords, I would say the 2 voidteks are each part of a different court.

I played against a triarch stalker last night, Sadly my opponent forgot what move through cover meant so it was slow, but even with that sad limitation the two str 8 melta on my tiptide was brutal.

If I did take a Triarch Stalker (I will probably take heavy destroyers, as heavy destroyers seem more versatile to me) I would take the twin-linked Heavy Gauss Cannon to increase its range, so I can spread the twin-linking love around
