Given that God is described very differently in Islam vs Judiasim/Christianity, its pretty safe to say they are not the same god.

Islam says god is a singular entity. The Judeo-christian god is a Triune being. One god in three distinct persons(Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Each is known by different names but the plurality is what is important)

That is a very major difference which makes them incompatible.

1. Not all sects of Christianity agree on the trinity
2. Islam directly states that Yaweh = Allah
3. Old Testament does not ever acknowledge a trinity at all (probably due to the main character of the New Testament not having been written into the story yet)

The old testament does have God as being a plural being, right in Genesis. "Let us make man in our image."

The Hebrew word for God is a plural noun.

The Hebrew word for god is YWYH, or Yahweh, which translates to "he creates"; not "they create".

EDIT: For what it's worth, that's a pronoun and a verb. Not a plural noun

Some translations of the Bible do like to use the "Royal We" when god speaks.

Bit late for this, I suppose, but as KM said, the first person plural in Genesis (which IIRC only appears in Genesis) is generally interpreted as the royal "we".

I think if you told any Jew that they believe in any sort of "triune" God or said they believe that God is not a singular entity they'll look at you like you're crazy, or an idiot.

Sigh... as I've pointed out a million times before, there are fringes on both sides that believe ridiculous things about the major figures of the other side. The only real difference is that no-one in the Democratic leadership ever played seriously with the idea that, for instance, Bush actually did plan 9/11... whereas plenty of figures in the Republican leadership happily played with the idea that Obama wasn't really a US citizen.

You're still making the mistake of thinking the Syrian rebels are a homogenous, organised group. They aren't. There's all kinds of groups in there, and the alliances between them only make the whole set up even more complicated.

Part of the point of giving support is to provide it to rebel groups that aren't complete nutters, and make them more powerful, and therefore make it more likely that the crazies don't end up in complete control when (if) the government falls.
