Hi,

I'm attempting to build a bike heavy marine army based on the Minotaur Chapter. As they have a very strong minoian/anciant greek feel I did some research and found that thier cavavlry woudl have been light scout harrying forces and so perfect to translate to bike.

The problem is they would have been armed with a spear and a sword known as a Kopis http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kopis

They look like this:

anybody have any ideas as to how to make/bits that look similar? The plan is to model some with Kopis and also have the option to arm the Sgt with a spear (although this would count as a power lance which are a bit rubbish)

It looks like something you could carve down from any power sword, though doing the blades in plastic card would be easier/cheaper if you need many of them. Trace out the blade shape, cut out, sharpen, and glue to sword hand.

I'll second the Plasticard blade shape. You could get a load of assault marine power swords of Ebay, cut off the blades, leaving the hilt and fist as one, and then reattach, possibly using GS, the Plasticard blade onto the handle. I don't know if this would work as I've never used Plasticard, but it's maybe worth a try.

Going along the lines of Greek-themed SM, are you going to do a full Greek themed army? Just I have a particular interest in Ancient Greek history so I've got loads of ideas regarding SM's

Yeah it sounds like this is the way forwards.

The Minotaurs are very heavily based on the Minoan culture, check out the FW Badab wars books and the The Fall of Orpheus book, so going for a Greek Cavalry look makes sense,

On a whim I Googles "28mm Kopis" and got this: http://www.shapeways.com/model/1073063/techno-kopis-x5.html?li=productBox-search
$7.25 for 5 "techno" kopis(s?, what's the plural?), there may be more options. Google is always a good place to start.

I don't have any history with Shapeways so I can't attest to the quality of their products.

Hmm, I'm a little suspicious of shapeways (I don't know why, I just am).

However a little more google-fu brought up

http://www.nobleknight.com/ProductDetail.asp_Q_ProductID_E_2147438339_A_InventoryID_E_2147842360_A_ProductLineID_E_2137425663_A_ManufacturerID_E_263_A_CategoryID_E_0_A_GenreID_E_91

But I'm worried they may be a little small for a marine as these will be scaled for real 28mm not heroic 28mm.

Anybody know about these?

Might be able to find them on a bits site?

Ohh, very nice find.

I now just need a bits site that sells forge world stuff. I'll Google the words "Resin" and "Forge" and see what I come up with...

Np I always liked those swords so they stuck in my mind.

I am sure you will find nothing but above board, honest trustworthy companies with nothing to hide! Lol.

Annoyingly the only bitz site that seems to sell them is that deffo above board and legit site of which I have heard so much, and they are out of stock.

Anybody know of any bitz sellers that would have them?

I've tried bitz box, bits barn and a couple of others and they don't list them.

Ah, well it may have to be some old sprues whittled down.

Before you do that, how about these:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WARGAMES-FACTORY-28MM-SKELETON-WARRIOR-SWORD-SPRUES-X-2-CR-/260985396531?pt=UK_Toys_Wargames_RL&hash=item3cc3f11d33

Or you may want to get the full set for other 28mm Greek bits to use in further conversions here:

http://wargamesfactory.com/webstore/legacy-of-the-greeks/heavy-armor-greek-hoplites

or here:

http://wargamesfactory.com/webstore/myths-and-legends/wgf-ml002

Hope that helps.

Cheers, that does help very much. I wonder how these look in a Space Marine's hand?

But at that price I may as well get some and use the bits for other stuff if it does not work out.

Yeah. If worst comes to worst, then the sheathed variants may still look good strapped onto a pack or something on the bike rack. To be honest, the rampager swords are not really Kopis' -they are based more on the Dacian Falx I'm guessing, as the recurved blades with an inner blade is typical of a Falx, and Forge World advertise them as Falax. Hence, they aren't really Greek swords as such, but the examples in the link's I sent you are much more accurate.
