That it gets harder to be "fit" when you get old? That isn't a physical issue, it is a matter of priority.

I think he meant the moving knees part.

Obviously, but it can be worked around. The question is how much time, and effort, a person is willing to expend.

Life does not cease to be funny when people die any more than it ceases to be serious when people laugh.

Have you tried different strokes? If you can find something that works for you, and just swim lots of lengths, it'll probably be the best thing for you.

Well mine's a bit of a special case but I use it as a reference as it annoys hell out me when youngins say "just work out." Its true, BUT there's always a but...

Frazzled sr. of course was an athetic fool when he retired. He walked (A LOT), did the golf, went to the gym, and kept himself in shape. This allowed him and mom to do a lot of things other people their age couldn't do. Same to same for mom. She went to the gym and pool right up to the end.

highly recommended.

Wait for it...wait for it...different strokes for different folks?

Ayah some strokes I can do, and strangely I can lift weights pretty well so am working on that and do walk a fair bit. As strangely it makes my hip feel better when I do the big leg press.
As Dogma would note, its the will power and I need to eat better. I still eat like when I did work out a lot. BUT CHOCOLATE IS SO DELICIOUS!!!!!

The thing is though, I wasn't saying "just work out" I was saying there is always some exercise you can do in reply to someone who was saying there mother couldn't do any exercise. I'm saying find something that works for you, as you have. No matter what your illness or disability there is always exercise everyone can, and should, do. From the age of about 30 onwards flexibility and fitness are a case of use it or loose it.

I don't work out, I hate the gym and for various reasons have problems with running and weights (to do with coordination) so I can't "just work out" either.

Well, if you're up for it, I would suggest talking to a physiotherapist or other professional and seeing what would be optimal for you and your body.

Getting some decent coaching can be a great way to not only make sure you're doing things properly, but also a good motivator. It's a lot easier to commit to something when you know you're doing it right.

I mean, it's a great TV show but I don't see how it could lead to weight loss.

Or do you mean watching it while you're on a treadmill or something?

For the OP - I would say it's a disease becasue it may be down to a low metabolic rate caused by genetics which may also be reduced by lack of exercise and overeating increasing choleterol and cause heart attack. Although I think it all could be avoided with a bit of effort so I couldn't call it a mental disorder, unless you call laziness a mental disorder

I dont think its either. Its also one of those things that begats itself. For instance, in my case (im overweight) i have osteoporosis. Five years ago i was 11 stone, today about 17. This is due to me busting bones in my feet and not wanting to exercise. Also, in my case if i drink booze i pile the weight on. But i drink because it eases the pain in my aching bones. Viscious cycle. It varies with each person and generalisations are worthless.
