I have been considering picking up a unit of Stormfall archers to add to my army, and just wanted to get some opinions on them. Are they worth their points? what are their strengths, and what are their weaknesses? What do ya'll think of them?

Stormfall archers are incredible, and their role will change depending on your caster.

Strengths:
Can switch between longest ranged attack on a unit (outside weapon platforms) and highest damage/attack on a unit.
Small unit size gives some positional flexibility.

Weaknesses:
Low rat.
Expensive/model

In order to use them effectively, you have to find ways to make up for their low rat. This is most easily done by either knocking down your targets or good target selection (attacking low defense models, or attacking very low armor models and doing most of you damage through deviating templates). You will have to take this into account when you build a list with them- try to make sure you have a reliable source of knockdown, or some other way of improving accuracy.

Stormfalls are amazing, and I am currently running them in all lists.

I will say they are one of those units that really shines if you double up ( I run two units )

A couple items to be aware of
Good
- thier AOE's are great at clearing out high def units. dont worry baout hitting just fire enough shots and some are bound to scatter good

-The fire shot is amazing for taking out sheildwall of units that have a arm buff. both tend to go away at the beggining of the turn before fire activates

-brutal damage against a KD target is amazing


Cons

- Rat sucks so your gonna want to Aim, or target KD stuff. (or not worry about hitting)

- They take up a lot of the clock time dure to drifting AOE's

-They are worthless in combat

Stormfall Archers are the only reason I nerely bought Ret

I'd argue SFA are one of the top 3 units in Ret.

I played a game against a guy running archers, the battle engine, 2 snipers, erm...the dude with...um...well forgot the caster, and a max squad of the guys with swords.

I ran what amounted to a standard looking circle list with Grayle and a couple of stealth units.

To make a long story short I moved up, he shot me. I moved up, he shot me and backed up. I move up, he obliterates what's left of my army. I didn't manage to kill a single one of his guys. I guess gunline armies do work in warmahordes.

Point in case though those archers were nasty business.

Read their card carefully. I believe it is the shot that lights people on fire under the AOE. I believe it only works on a direct hit.

Not sure of the exact rule. My friend used them once and kicked my hiney with them. Then afterwards I read the card and he did it all wrong and they would've done nothing to me.

No, straight up caster kill.

Yeah, if you have no scenario, good luck playing against a Ret gun line.

Gunlines are a thing, but without scenario, certain gunlines can really dominate the table. Scenarios, always.

i always take them they have some nice ammo and have never let me down

A great unit to field with them are Battle Mitts! They'll drag units towards you and on a crit they'll be knocked down. That way you can have your SFA forfeit their movement (sometimes) and you'll get your boost in RAT!

They are pretty good with any of our casters really.

I like them with Ossyan personally. They are very good with Ravyn also, but I never really got into her.

I'd buy 2 units.

I agree with CurrentlyUnknown... they are probably one of our top 3 units.

Mittens? They've been fairly Meh for me so far. Magic means they don't get to aim, and Magic Ability 6 isn't all that super accurate. They do do alright in melee though with two attacks and Beat Back. Definitely take them with Rahn though.

I was talking about SFA... I somehow missed the post about mittens.

Ah, yeah, the archers. I need to buy TWO units of those based on how well the unit I was loaned has been performing.
