Just wondering what are peoples thoughts on the cheapest way to make a legit (meaning not getting killed immediately) 2000 point army?

Jw may be a stupid question just wondered what peoples experiences/ thoughts are?

Two boxes of Terminators, build as paladins and Draigo; 2k points. Not very exciting to play mind you, but you can still build a Grey Knight army of almost any flavour for cheap; all their stuff is points heavy and killy.

Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.

Daemons with tons of flying monstrous creatures can actually be a pretty powerful army. They're also incredibly cheap, rivaling Grey Knight Paladins ($50 box of terminators = 300+ points, $40 daemon prince = 300+ points).

A Lord of Change and 3 Daemon Princes. Give them mastery level 3, greater/exalted gifts, power armor, wings, etc. Add in a couple units of troops. You're looking at a 1500 point army for under $200.

Edit: Just realized you want to build a 2k army. Just add another Lord of Change and another unit of troops. You'll have a 2000 point army for well under $300. You can also use any other Chaos God (2 Bloodthirsters and 3 Khorne Daemon Princes) or mix and match (1 Lord of Change, 1 Great Unclean One, 2 Tzeentch Daemon Princes, 1 Nurgle Daemon Prince), etc...plenty of options.

Deathwing by a long shot. Dark Vengeance Terminator squads are ~$15 ea on Ebay. You need 5 of these to make a 1500 pt army. Use the Captain that comes with DV as Azrael to make them troops, and you've got a 1500 pt army for <$100.

Tier 1 is the new Tactical.

If you're wanting the deathwing to be *competitive* you can splurge on an assault termi box and Sentinel Missile launchers as CMLs.

Deathwing right now. I've spent a grand total of $100 (including a codex) and sitting around 1200 points or so.

Heck, they can even be cheaper than that!

Go by your friendly local toy store and look through the action figure line. Find some with wings. Stick em on a 40mm base. Call it a day.

Well, if you take the starter box, I'd opt for DA.

Man i though we had this thread not even a few days ago.

DA: those DV models are the bees knees
GK: low model count high points but are tough as nails.
Ebay: good luck

Using GW models and retail Prices For 2k Points

Draigowing will run you about $300ish.

If you are at all good at converting/finding bits.

Daemons is probably about the same or cheaper. Each DP box can make 2 FMCs (2 torsos, enough arms and heads, so if you can find a way to make/get legs for cheap.)

So that probably runs you $150 for 1500ish points + Troops.

Eldar Wraith-army.
A little more expensive than Draigo or Deathwing but IMO much more viable.

If you include ebay purchases I'd actually vote for Codex Space Marines.

If you're patient and willing to spend a week or two bidding you can put together a respectable force with very little cash as Codex marines are ubiquitous.

The only caveat is that more time spent looking (ie patience) and poor looks (low skill level in paint job on models) = Cheap

If you are willing to accept used models with variable skill levels in the paint job, or just willing to strip and repaint, you can get a good force put together fairly quickly.

The same is true of patience, if you willing to bid low and wait for it, you can get models for a song (ie cheap).

If you want bare, never painted, models and need them yesterday, yep it will cost you

Quick + Good Looking= expensive

Slow and Shoddy Looking = Cheap as Hell!

I know that looking at page 2 of the forum can be annoying, but we're already discussing this.

And the answer is DA, with everybody else a far, far distant second.

Chaos and the Dark Angels currently.

And even then, chaos isn't great. Cultists are cheap in money, but they're also cheap in points. You can set up a 1500 point deathwing for really, really cheap by picking out just the termies from DV. And you get a reasonably strong army as well.

With chaos, even if the cultists only cost $1 per model (which they don't), it still takes 300 of them to fill 1500 points. And your army is going to be just cultists, which is terrible.

In order to make a decent chaos army, you need to buy a bunch of stuff that isn't in DV, thus you don't really get the same price break as an all-deathwing or an all-ravenwing DA army.
