I'm going for a speedy CSM list with daemon allies. I'm just wondering about the cultist troops. What is more survivable, 3 cultist troops in rhinos(270) or 4 troops on foot(220)?
Any other troops i should consider? I don't want to use too much points to give my assault units a bigger punch. At the same time i need enough scoring units. The rhinos are also a liability because of an easy first blood. The nurglings will infiltrate and hopefully get linebreaker.

Any advice is much appreciated.

This is my list so far.

1750 pts.

Can they even take a Rhino?

You could, however, put them in a land raider. I've done that multiple times.
It works out well. The cultists hop out near the end of the game and hide behind the land raider to stay out of LoS.

If you are going on foot, minimum to the cultist squad should be 20 - 25. Anything less and they fall back to easily.
I just footslogg 35 of them with a fearless IC

I only have two squads of cultists (I'm a new player and I'm expanding my collection) but I used them apart and together and 18 cultists together has seemed to last longer than 20 cultists apart.

Long live the Chaos Space Marines!!!

First, cultists cannot take a rhino. You need regular CSM to take the rhino, and then have them hop out and the cultists hop in.

10 cultist are a distraction unit that you can keep in reserve and try and take an unwatched objective.
they are not durrable scoring troops. They have no killing potential and only 10 of them have no resilience. You need to spend more than 200 points of your 1750 on troops or you are going to lose most objective missions

Another thing to consider is even if you put cultists in a rhino, an explodes result would cause a lot of wounds to 6+ save models. You'd lose a lot of them anyway. Foot slogging large blobs have worked best for me.

Oh, my bad I thought they can take rhinos.
Proxy 2 lr & put them in there doing what labmouse said.

That is really sad bcuz I was planning on 6 squad of 10 cultist in 6 rhinos. I wish they made a transport for them like a truck.

Otherwise, consolidate your 40 cultist into 1 squad of 35 or 2 squad of 20. Get more daemon troops.

I am greatly underestimating the cultist since I only have 20 and I always watch them die.
