So I'm getting into necrons, and I'm trying to think of new ideas. I came up with a weird one I wanted an opinion on:
C'tan shard + catacomb command barge= win
|
The key to strategy is not to choose a path to victory, but to choose so that all paths lead to a victory.
War is beautiful because it establishes man’s dominion over the subjugated machinery by means of gas masks, terrifying megaphones, flame throwers, and small tanks. War is beautiful because it initiates the dreamt-of metalization of the human body. War is beautiful because it enriches a flowering meadow with the fiery orchids of machine guns. War is beautiful because it combines the gunfire, the cannonades, the cease-fire, the scents, and the stench of putrefaction into a symphony.

You give your overlord a ccb, but don't start him in it, start a c'tan shard with gaze of death next to the empty ccb. Turn 1 embark him in it. This would allow you to
1. Move 30 inches a turn
2. Do str 7 sweep attacks
3 get an additional d6 HOW attacks on the charge.
4 heal the ccb with the c'tan shards wounds then heal the c'tan with gaze of death.
It seems like the main beef with the C'tan shard is its really slow and a bit fragile. putting it in a command barge eliminates all its weaknesses while letting it hit even harder.

What is the transport capacity of a command barge?
are c-tans bulky or anything like that.
did you check for restrictions?

A c'tan is an independent character mc.
There are no transport restrictions on mc's

a Ctan shard is a character not an independent character
so no go

Ah damn. I didn't realize single characters were separate from independent characters. Oh we'll, it would have been awesome.

That would be an insane combo. I like it!!!....
....if only it were legal. 
BTW, sweep attacks are only done in the Movement phase, meaning you can only move 12" and do the sweep attack. It makes it quite limiting.
