@HoeJarris - Thank you very much It was because I saw so many pure metallic Necrons I decided I wanted something different and created my "cold-themed" scheme. Glad you like them!

@Ratius - HISSY! It's truly a honor to have you here. Thank you very much for the compliment and I hope all goes well with your brood!

@Grimfax - Thank you The OSL was a spur of the moment thing, at first I thought about painting "normal" but I decided he needed some extra "awesome"

WELL, it took far too much time, but I hope I'm posting pictures of the Night Scythe tonight! I admit, I haven't painted the switchable weapon/portal but I desperately need to change to another model.
My hate for the NS was one big reason it took me so much time, I didn't have the patience to work on it for long periods of time.
Another was Steam Summer Sales. I'm truly addicted to XCOM: Enemy Territory

Night-Scythe!

It's finally done! Here's my Night Scythe (still in crappy white paper pictures. I went when I finally checked the lamps that I got together with my lightbox. They are for UK voltage so the plugs have 3 pins, which obviously doesn't work in here, where's it's 2 pins. Currently awaiting for the adapters ) :

No, I didn't slack, the underside is also painted

Yum, Yum, Croissant! (I added the burnt effect to show it doesn't magically fly . Same effect all my Destroyers have)

Well, that was a true pain to paint! I swear large models are almost impossible to get an even coat without an airbrush. Or you can, but the work and time wasted is far too much for the "reward" I'll attempt to avoid any large size kits for now.

Next Up, a change of scenery: Infinity!

I'm a bit scared to be honest. The model is tiny compared to the 40k ones. We'll see how it goes.

That's all for now, as always C&C is more than welcome!

Cool stuff. I especially like the way the back of the night scythe looks. Although, i will give my one favorite piece of advice; use area transition highlight to really kill the monotony of the blue surface.

@Michael BishopMa
Thank you! And yes, it may happen. Infinity has beautiful models, way too beautiful

@vent
Thank you very much for the kind words and let's hope my future Infinity work is anything good

@Largeblastmarker
Thank you mate! You are right, the completely blue surfaces are a bit monotonous. Next one I'll probably try to blend another lighter blue to make it more interesting.

So, quick update. This Infinity model is beautiful but very frustrating to work with. I kinda hate when even looking with full attention at pics, I still can't be sure if a certain area is a mold line or a small defect or if it's part of the model

But moving on, since this girl is a ninja, and a powerful one at that, I decided I wanted a base that would represent this. After some thinking and searching for inspiration, I decided upon a simple scenario but one that shows how she's awesome: She'll be jumping from lilypad to lilypad. No average human would ever be able to do this, that's why she's an amazing Ninja!

So, I got to work and let's say I'm a complete noob when it comes to GS. I read tutorials before, including how to create some plants using GS but it still was a bit tough to get good enough results. And to think it's such a a simple thing!

They still aren't perfect but I hope they are good enough for people to recognize what they are

And then tonight disaster struck. I was priming her together with 3 more models. Everything was going well, I swear I was being as careful as I could be and yet, long story short, she almost falls down from a pretty decent height but I stop it from happening. Problem is, I hit her with such brute strength I managed to rip out her sword arm and head. And the head fell down from around a 1,5meters to a concrete ramp. *sigh*: Around 15 mns later with my a** up looking at the damn floor searching for her head I found it. It really wasn't an amusing experience and as you can guess I was frustrated and mad as hell.

So, after re-gluing her head and arm AND filling new gaps with GS, here she is, ready for some paint:

I'm thinking about black clothing (just like the official one) but with purple "armor" instead of greens. Her hair will probably be another color other than white, like a light blue or pink, just for fun.

I can only pray to the God-Emperor the painting goes smoothly.

I admit, I haven't even tried it yet but I'm in love with the game The "catch" of the game is that it's always your turn. You can answer to almost everything your opponent does at the same time. I hope I'm getting a demo game next wednesday For now, I'm just in love with the miniatures

Well, I am advancing with the pink hair idea, I hope tomorrow I have something good to show

Love the Necrons, they look really good. Seeing dull grey metal all the time is boring cudos for going with something flamborant and awesome.

@Spartan-Kun: Thank you I really wanted to show how necrons can be colorful and look (at least) decent since there's so much grey metal out there

Well, she's still not finished, but I'm getting there. Here's my cyberpunk, bubble-gum hair color NINJA!

From Violet hair to soft bubblegum pink. I wanted to paint hair like this for a long time

Another thing I really wanted to play around with was with purples. I like purple a lot but it isn't part of the "regular" paint scheme of my Necrons. This girl was the perfect excuse with Yellow as a spot color.

Tomorrow night I'll continue with my painting. For now, FEAR THE NINJA!

Well, good progress last night, the only thing missing are her eyes. Her eyes, oh man, it was so infuriating and frustrating I created this thread in search of help: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/542918.page

Thankfully the DakkaDakka community delievers like always and got myself lots of good advice about how to tackle the eyes. I hope I manage to pull it through tonight

Infinity - Oniwaban Shinobu Kitsune

Well, it's done! It's no perfect paint job but I did love painting this girl and now I'm certain I'm really a fan of Infinity miniatures, small size be damned

Unfortunately the adapters still haven't arrived *SIGH* so it's still white paper sheet time! WOOHOO!

Anyway, pictures!

I did my best to write the Japanese Kanji you see up front Unfortunately I don't know Japanese, so I had to use google translator to find out the Kanji for "Color" and "Death". I wanted to name this miniature "Colorful Death" so I hope it's close enough

And since this is a blog about improvement, I'm going to start writing a small report about how I tried to improve and what did I do or what I'm going to do different from now on. I'm spoilering it in case you aren't interested in my self-evaluation

Spoiler:
Good stuff:
- First, this miniature is completely different from my usual 40k ones so I had the perfect excuse to go "wild" when it comes to colors. I'm really glad I did, I loved working with purples and pinks and violets.
- I managed to practice a lot of layering. Her face, the hair, the sword. It isn't perfect, but slowly getting better with more practice.
- Glazing over metals is fun
- Greenstuff. For the first since my Deathmark with an eyepatch and cigar I sculpted something out of GS and I managed to create my own base. It isn't anything "DAAYYUUM", but I'm very happy with the end result. It tells me I really must keep on trying to improve my GS skills as well as my painting skills.

What can I do better next time?
- Eyes. Urgh. I left the eyes for the very end I really regret it. One slip and I would ruin either her hair or face so I was extremely nervous when it was time to paint her eyes. I fiddled with it for a very long time and I still am not 100% happy with them. I am using the advice of the wonderful Dakka people next time and specially the one about doing the eyes first: http://www.reapermini.com/Thecraft/12
- BEING MORE CAREFUL. I dropped this wonderful mini around 4 times. I swear I was being careful and yet it fell down around 4 times... man, was it enfuriating. Her head and sword arm were damaged from this so yeah, cursed be my clumsiness.
- Keep on trying to improve my blending / layering skills. There's an enormous room for improvement

Well, next up I'm going to paint a small commission for a friend. I'm painting the miniatures from the WoW Adventure Board Game and I have the first 4 right here:

The quality isn't so good, I'm afraid. Horrible, just awful mold lines. I have to chop away these mold lines from hell. Not only that, look at this poor Orc:

Nevermind his axe is bending, look at that face! It's melting D:

That's all folks! As always, C&C is appreciated!

Melted face? Definitely a warlock around! Good to see even plastic WoW orcs still have too-big shoulder pads.

Nice work on the ninja! I really like the overall effect, especially the little ripple on the water from the lily pad she's on.

Good luck with the WoW boardgame bits, I'm sure you'll turn them into something usable

Thank you! The ripple was something I wanted from the very beginning, ever since I had the lilypad idea. I'm glad people are able to notice and recognize it

And thank you for the support, I removed all I was able to but I had to go take a video game break. I deserved it, damn it

I dig your ninja!

Hope you continue to buy and paint more of those little suckers.

I really enjoyed the spoilered 'looking back' section.

For the WoW orc mini I would use this as an opportunity to try and paint an actual burn scar. Some gnarly burned flesh like The Hound from A Game of Thrones or something.

Video game breaks are good. So are tv breaks. Back when I used to have unreasonably large amounts of hobby time (high school and parts of college mostly) I used to punctuate painting/hobby time with half hour breaks of either. Now its more like some days I'm too tired to paint so I shoot aliens or what have you

Hrm, the tauren having a dagger/sword and the human having a large primitive hammer seems like a role reversal, but I'm sure you'll find a way to make them look good if your previous work is any indication

Maybe you should have washed the hair with a redish wash so that the crevasses of the hair would be shaded? I like this "looking back section". Everyone should do it.

@Michael: Dude, ye must be a psychic. When GrimDork mentioned Warlocks I remembered their Immolate spells and thought about that It's a possibility.

@GrimDork: Hehe, actually I plan on trying to follow the game's colors. I clearly remember carrying that thing around back then when I played WoW.

@Largeblastmarker: Oh man, I did that because I thought I *could* improve the look of the hair and I immediately regretted it. My beautiful layered pink hair turned into "something" I really hated D: I had to paint it all over again. It proved that sometimes "Less is more".

Slow progress is slow! This weekend I spent some hours doing what I bet most war-gamers love: Cleaning up My room / hobby corner was getting far too cluttered and messy. There was nearly no room for anything, so after some hard-work it's now in a much better shape. Ofc I gave myself a nice back-pain that prevented me from painting too much

But progress was made nonetheless!

These minis were supposed to be "speed-painted". I accepted to paint them with the idea of training "speed-painting" since my friend would be satisfied with a very quick paint-job. It's... hard. I can't just skip over details as I should. I didn't use any blending or layering with multiple layers, just base, wash and 1-2 layers.
Still, I did my best to paint every nook and cranny and find some way to make some details pop-out like his belt buckle, his beard, all that.

The Orc was very WIP when I took this shot:

This is another example. I could have left the boots like that. I could have painted the whole cloak in brown or red and be done with it. I just, urgh, it's hard. My OCD kicks in and I have to make sure I paint all the details I can. I hope the Orc is complete tomorrow night!

Another good thing is that I finally beat up my laziness and now I'm using Photoscape to Scale, Crop and Combine pictures so I reduce the amount of uploaded pics and make it easier to post and browse

Well, that's all for now!

Thank you GD.

You should give Photoscape a try It's free and easy to use for these basic operations.

Easy to use you say? I used to be OK at Photoshop but no longer have it and its pricey. I would use the gimp but it seems different from Photoshop and therefore learning curve. I may have to try this photoscape you speak of, lord knows my pictures could use it!
