Black Orc Big Boss: Sword of Striking, Glittering Scales, Enchanted Shield:

+1 to hit opponents, -1 to be hit by opponents, 4+ armour. Not sure if the +1 to hit Sword of Striking is worth 15 points to replace the normal Black Orc 'Wide Array of Hand Weapons'.

Night Goblin Big Boss: Shield, Gold Sigil Sword, Armour of Fortune:

Strikes at initiative 10, 4+ armour, 5+ ward. Not quite 'Always Strikes First', but it sounds pretty solid.

Never upgrade any Goblin character. The only upgrade you should think about getting is ward save for your General or BSB, everything else is a waste of points.

Since I am new to the game, why do you say this? What about the Black Orc?

Black Orc: With -1 to be hit light armor, I'd take the opal amulet and keep your armed to the teef. 4+ armor isn't very good, I'd just stick with the 6+ armor, -1 to be hit, and a 1 use 4+ ward.

As Sigvatr said, don't upgrade goblin heroes. WS4 means rank and file kills them pretty easy. I'd just take the great weapon, and hope that the goblin nets keeps him alive for a turn. And of course, with any guideline we have exceptions, but that's another thread.

Wizard hat on a goblin lord is a fun upgrade. It's not optimal, but sometimes it's a freakin game changer. Access to lores you don't normall have and what not. It's not very expected. I usually carry ruby ring of ruin on a character as well, so I will have access to more lores than most opponents would reckon I could... One day I'll make a list with azhag and wizard hat... bwa haha.

Crown of command is as well. Lots of people will argue about 11 goblins being better for holding steadfast longer. I typically put my crown in a smaller unit of archers, that my opponent thinks is a speedbump, but in reality, just holds them in place for 2 turns while my squigs/pump wagon flank. It may not be optimal, but I find it a fun tactic.

Goblin characters on wolves, spiders, giant spiders, and great cave squigs can be upgraded with a little more confidence. A terrifying mask of eee! on a wolf boss is a great tool. I sometimes put the mask on foot even in a horde of archers, charge him out solo against a low LD enemy outside their generals IP/BSB range to cause them to flee, then use a random movement to "catch" them, or another nearby unit to charge them as well to cause a second flee (hopefully torward a random movement unit to catch them).

Charmed shield on a squig-boss makes for a good distraction for a cannonball (allowing your manglers, giant, or arach some free reign or vice versa.. many games I've had my manglers shot down leaving the squig-boss alive to flank charge and wipe units by himself.... Potion of strength is nice for a spear wielding squig lord... S5 on charge +2 S for one turn, 4 Ws5 attacks at i5 S7!

I wouldn't use the loadouts you have mentioned as other posters have said. I would give the orc 4+ ward over the sword, and I would just give a GW to the goblin unless he is specifically going to be used to grant stubborn or carry a fireball ring or something. You can't really make him "fighty" enough to be worth the points to yourself, but sometimes you can justify those points by making him "wacky" enough or by filling a wacky role.

Taking a magical armour (of the kind that replaces the Hvy Armour) + any kind of Magic weapon seems to be a big waste on a BO Warboss, Might as well take an Orc one in this case
Might as well stick with the AHW/GW (as Orcs are quite slow anyway) and then either take a really good armour or a DragonHelm
