Hi all. It might be a silly question but can't seem to find a answer anywhere.

Can a wizard (Firebelly) cast a magic missile (fireball) from the 2nd rank?
I know with normal shooting attacks the 2nd rank uses the LoS from the the 1st rank, but is magic the same or is the LoS obscured.

You need the wizard to be able to see.
Buy the taller wizards.
Model him off center on the base.

Your wizard should never be in the second rank.
Pg 97 brb says all characters go in the front rank. All other models get moved back to make room for the characters up front

Being ogre's and only being 3 models wide with the command group having to be in front rank forces characters into the 2nd rank

I don't see why not. The rules for shooting are so liberal it's hard to have a situation where simply the fat dude in front blocks your LoS. It would take a laser pointer stick in each eyeball of the model to determine that and just hovering over the game you're not going to be able to see.

I don't have the book on me but if I remember correctly pg97 also states that characters will push command into the second rank.

Afraid not.
Where possible, characters have to be in the front rank, however, if there is not enough space (say, full command and multiple characters in a unit, they get pushed back into rank 2. Also, when not engaged in CC, the command group MUST be in the front rank, and when in CC, characters MAY choose to make way to the front rank (but dont have to.)

AFAIK, the only exception to this are bret lances, but that is a case of army book > brb.

The only armies that characters move command back are ogres and bretonnians. The other armies command takes rank before characters

Where does it say Ogres move command back? Or are you simply referring to whilst in CC? Because during the normal phase, in a 3-wide unit sorry, but the command group is out in front...

Command goes up front.
Characters fill in around command.
In combat, a character not touching an enemy may choose to displace a command model.
If you choose not to displace command, the character sits in the 2nd rank making supporting attacks.

Yep, stand corrected, characters displace to the back.
Don't know anything about 3 model ranks like Ogres or special books like Brettonia.
Guess it pays to read a little closer.

Only exception is Bretonnia. The characters push the Command to the 2nd and 3rd rank, Except for casters they go in center of 2nd and 3rd rank.
