Subject: Battlestar Galactica question - Viper Mk VII

So, I'm watching the series for the first time, and I'm about halfway through season 2. Well, I just watched the episode "Flight of the Phoenix", and I noticed that several of BSG's pilots were piloting Viper Mk VII's against the Cylon Raiders...despite the fact they made it extremely clear that the Cylons were able to infiltrate and deactivate the Mk VII's remotely. Since I'm a sucker for continuity, did I miss something about them finding out how/why the Cylons were able to make these useless? Thanks!

Indeed. It was the current software that had the backdoors allowing entry.
Plothole however, because the old cylons were known for trying the same in the old war (as noted in the pilot for why the computers weren't networked).
Its not really a spoiler but lets just say you'll soon love ships named after winged horses.

I figured as much, but I couldn't remember them saying anything or addressing it in the show. It was just like "Boom, here's your new fighters again."
And Fraz, I can't wait to find out what you mean I started watching this show about a month ago, and I love it! Can't believe it's taken me this long to actually watching it...

That's kind of the premise of the show. The Galactica and all its equipment is super old. The first episode Adama is about to retire and the Galatica is being turned into a museum.

There is some issue about whether he was going to be part of the museum exhibits too... Automatically Appended Next Post: mmmm..Razor old school Cylons. I liked that episode.

It was good, but not as good as BSG or Caprica (which also had an old-school cylon)

Well, original cylon (to that iteration, anyway) - given the "it has all happened before" motif they used in BSG.
Nice to see they reinforced that it was STILL the Gemonese that were the whackjob religious nutbags of BSG.

Blood & Chrome wasn't as good as BSG but better than Caprica. I hated Caprica quite frankly.
Too bad Blood & Chrome won't be picked up into a series.

I would have liked to have seen where they might have taken a second season of Caprica. Also, wasn't Caprica written as a show that had nothing to do with Battlestar but they decided to shoehorn it in to capitalize on BSG's success? Pretty sure I remember hearing that.

Once you start hearing about 'final five' stop watching. It's when the show jumped the shark.
Also grrrr about the ending Mass Effect 3 had a less poor ending.

Make that most of Season Three and Season Four. I think the writers started smoking too much dope and just kind of went off to lala land.

To add to the OP's question, watch the pilot episode again. When the Cylons attack, Adama is given a report stating old units and ones not updated with the new navigation program are still effective. As to the new Vypers, some stragglers were picked up, besides Apollo. Crashdown for example wore a flight suit with the BS Titan (?) patch.

Yeah, I knew that. It was just kinda bothering me that the newer Vipers just randomly started showing up without any explination on how they fixed the problems they originally happened.
Ah, I can't wait to watch "Razor" and "Blood & Chrome"...and I was told to avoid "Caprica"; I've literally heard nothing but bad things about it.
Also, I'm now apparently far enough in the series to play the BSG board game (and its expansions) without ruining anything!

I didn't mind caprica.. I watched it, and was bummed when they suddenly pulled it off the air that time and replaced with with star trek. I didn't love it, but I guess I kept hoping it would get better.
