Ill be honest here, daemons are pretty plain and hard to make them a fun army.
I see WoC being a much better choice as you can have a pretty solid army and still mix units as you want.

Daemons though, limited choices and options really.
They are possibly the best choice of a mono god daemon army though.

Lords:

Ku'gath - Heavy on points and average really.

GUO - Hard to shift and an upgraded weapon is pretty tasty, so is the lore of death or nurgle.

Hero's:

Epidemius - A must have if your going mono nurgle.
His tally rule is simply too good to pass up and makes the points worth it.

Herald - Not too bad, easily the safest herald to have as a BSB.
Just go with this in a bunker.
And to be a dick, take a greater gift and swap it for fencers blades.
WS10 and -1 to hit in combat - Allways amusing.

Core:

Plaguebearers - Tough for a basic daemon, gets a real boost from the tally, but dont do a massive amount of damage.

Special:

Nurglings - Immune to instability which is bloody huge!
Skirmishers, easy to hide, and alot of attacks.
They do shine if you want damage done.

Beast of nurgle - Quick for nurgle! (M6)
Hard hitting, hard to kill and the tally is nasty on them.
They are an auto-include in any daemons army.

Rare:

Plaguedrones - Look amazing, but dont really do anything special.
For 5 points more you can get a beast of nurgle, which to be honest, works alot better.

Soulgrinder - These work well for nurgle, but thats because nurgle lack the ability to remove hordes.
Give him the stone thrower upgrade and use it to thin out units and finish them with beasts.

They still suffer from unstable per the Swarms special rule so they aren't really a viable option IMO.
