Hopefully this is the correct area to post this
My son and I are relatively new to 40k and I have battle for Macragge and Dark Vengeance
He is a Tyranid junkie so he is using the genestealers, Termagaunts and spore mines with Lord Kranon leading them. Plus all the cultists too
The story is the Chaos have mind controlled the tryanids and using them as weapons of war

I am using squad Raphael, Balthasar, librarian Turmiel Squad Barachiel and Interrogator-Chaplain Seraphicus

I am hoping this is equal. I may need to load him up with maybe the Hellbrute

We built out own scenery and used the Macragge stuff too. All i can say is the game is a blast and my son loves it too
I cannot wait to buy some crons for me and a battleforce of nids for my son
I was excited and wanted to post

Me too.

As part of the rules of Dakka we can't post any points cost.

We could let you know the total points of each faction but that will take a moment. Gotta lug these books out.

Reminds me of when I started - point costs weren't exactly even, terrain was shoe boxes and whatever else was around, but they were some of the best games.

Excellent. My daughter (12) and I play. Her orks vs my IG. we love book terrain and jenga blocks are awesome.

Don't let the nay sayers bother you. There are gloom and doom GW people out there. I'm not pleased with the price increases of the past years, but, the game is still fun.

My son and I just played a game against one another on Tuesday night after the dinner table was cleared. Then he went with me to the store the next day when I had a game scheduled against a guy. We have fun together with 40k. who knows how long it will last but I will take advantage while he still has some interest.

Such a positive vibe in a 40k post? Surely my eyes deceive me!

I kid, I kid! I'm glad you guys are having so much fun with the game I hope you also share some fun times when both of you learn how to paint. I'm imagining father and son contests

My son and I play a game whenever work will allow it. It's one of our favorite hobbies at the moment. We just had a great game against some Orks (I was a bit flustered because I forgot our models in my trunk in Sacramento heat and ruined several expensive models...).

When we play against someone else and the other can't find a game, he's more than happy being my designated adviser/dice roller.

Glad to see other dads getting into the hobby with their kids. My favorite memories growing up were playing D&D with my dad and siblings around the dinner table.

Be prepared to let him win a lot because Necrons and Tyranids are pretty much on opposite ends of the effectiveness spectrum.

Let me help.

I wish I had someone to play with, but all of my very few friends refuse to pay GW's insane prices and I can't even have kids to have someone to play with because I'm so damn unattractive.

Now, if you excuse me, my wrists have an offering to make to Khorne.

Thanks for the great post. I too am nerding with my toddler. I have some orks that I let him paint. All the orks are orange, and get paint stripped so we can paint again later. It's a blast and look forward to the years to come.

This was a really good post to wake up too.

Keep having fun I remember being 12-13 and playing with my poorly painted Emperor's Children against my friends Eldar, Orks and Dark Angels. In battle fields that were quickly made cardboard terrain. When we couldn't get to the game store.

I've sold so many armies. :(

It is nice, my older son and both play (not as often since he is all grown up and out of college now).

But my younger son is only 3 and he will sit at the table and paint with me. It's rather interesting because i haven't been stripping his models but just let him keep going. I do however thin the paints down quite a bit. But he loves it. I don't think there is any question that he'll play later.

It is great fun playing table top games with your kids if they are interested.

Me and my son love the game as well. Better than just playing video games all the time.

Also I see you don't care about the rules, which is great as well. Just keep doing what you are doing and have fun. Just as a reminder, JUST IN CASE, you plan on playing pickup games, most times you will have to play by the real rules, so make sure you know what is your "house rules" and what are the real rules.

I say this because Tyranids can't use allies, so not sure when your son with his Tyranids is using Chaos minis. Are they "counts as" tyranids or are they Chaos minis with Chaos rules?

So if playing agaisnt strangers for pick up games it's best to stick with the rules since most people are sticklers to rules, while a few will let things slide.

You just reminded me, I have to get my son, and we have to start making our gaming table. He loves using Lego, so we use that as well.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

Auticus wrote: Or in summation: its ok to exploit shoddy points because those are rules and gamers exist to find rules loopholes (they are still "legal"), but if the same force can be composed without structure, it emotionally feels "wrong".

Thanks for all the great replies from everyone
We are playing by the rules I told him Nids cant ally but for the lack of models at the time we are bending them
I want to make sure we are playing correctly so if we ever play elsewhere we will be prepared

Just a simple warning.

Pay close attention to the way things are worded in the rule book.

As a new player I'm sure you'll find others to game with but since they'll know your new they'll want to help and point out rule after rule and sometimes point out rules that have nothing to do with the current game.

Never forget the Golden Rule!!! Have Fun!!!!
