I would hope they add the first DLC faction within a year of release, at least. Waiting too long means it might not be successful enough to justify adding more.

Basically, he's saying that GW helped create the idea that balance can be achieved through diversity instead of through everything being the same. Although I agree, I'd like to point out that other games have done the same in the past as well, and no one game can really claim to be the originator of the idea.

I really don't care. Balance is a secondary concern. Sure I mocked the devs for saying "I don't care about balance", but only because of the way it was poorly worded. And now we're going in circles so I'm probably gonna just drop it so we can stay on topic.

NITPICK ALERT!
Balanced diversity as a term does not refer to a balanced game with diversity, it describes diversity, thus "balanced diversity" would mean that e.g. there's one representative for each race

in terms of balance, equal competitive strength doesn't have to be the exact same in actual gameplay Given that you mentioned Starcraft ,you'd think you'd know this.

I was thinking about the alert system thats in Planetside and was thinking whether something like that would be good in EC, obviously the aim is to conquer the whole planet so perhaps certain bases/areas especially those controlled by the currently overpowering force or indeed the ones losing could gain a bonus to resources in the area for a certain time randomly which would encourage large fights to take place and also encourage the winning/losing team to balance themselves out by giving the dwindling orks a boost or the winning chaos a reason to hold off further attacks and switch to defence for a while; just to make the campaigns last that little bit longer.

I am still interested in the actual scale of the game - does it take place on an actual giant planet with far spread bases? Or does it feature some sort of instance-system? Or does it work similar to GW2 where NPCs run to you and ask you to come over and help? Sure, they mentioned a bit, but I just can't see it come together right now.

Aye I am having trouble myself picturing an entire planet just because I have never seen it done before on such a scale so I look forward to the outcome but in the reddit AMA someone asked whether the battles would take place on a round planet and they said yes, not sure if that helps towards your question though.

Why can't you imagine the scale of an entire planet? In Dark Crusade you fought over patches of territory on a planet. In Soulstorm you fought on several planets.
Just because the game is set on a particular planet does not mean they will have to create a "whole" planet for play. Just a few maps here and there with varying scenery to represent different biomes will be sufficient.
For example:
Some form of military base/complex
Jungle/desert/arctic themes
Ruined civilian city/hive city
Edit to add : I also have never seen any sea faring battles set in an actual ocean instead of the "ocean" of space. So depending on how much ocean they place on a planet will also negate the need to actually program anything of use over the actual water.

If i remember correctly for the twitch streams, They said they plan to make a planet, but with multiple battlezones, and new battlezones open up for every new campaign, so for first campaign we could start ar polar caps, then after 2 months the campaign is finished, winner declared, Polar cap is "greyed out for invasion" and we move to some other continent.
But they also mentioned that they plan to have more planets later on.

The fact that there's no localized servers killed the game for me though. I quit DotA 2 because of the terrible, terrible Russian players refusing to speak English. Localized servers OR forced English is an absolute must-have, else you'll have a huge communication mess that basically takes the fun out for solo players.
Have EU West, EU East, Asian and US servers and IP-block players. EU West and US could be able to play together given they are capable of speaking English for the most part, but EU East should absolutely be blocked from joining EU West or US servers.

The Tau are not an "all round" faction in that they specialize so much into long range combat they have little to no close combat skills.
Sisters of Battle would be a good well rounded faction as they offer troops that embrace every facet of warfare/tactics instead of just pouring themselves into one aspect of battle
Edit to add: A faction I would love to see that has never gotten any attention in any 4oK game I am aware of : Adeptus Mechanicus. I'm not holding my breath for the Machine Cult to show up in any playable form though.

I can totally understand your point but need to disagree
in this game you will need lots of players cause there are 4 factions to fill on a gigantic map
if we split on that many servers it will be to less players for all servers
and people who are not speaking english will not be a problem,
cause you can just leave your squad an search anotherone
there is really no problem at all

The limits of how much can realistically be put into the game will have to take priority about what we would like to be included. It would be unfeasible to program an entire planet into the game, especially since they want to release the game on consoles as well where the whole game has to fit onto a certain type of medium (disc).

From what I gather so far, the game should come out good, providing they don't add some weird handicaps that plague MMO's like grinding for gear and bland "missions". Although if they stick to the idea that you drop in and do what you please, that'll be neat.
I imagine the four starting factions would play out something like: Marines as the more tanky powerful race, CSM are Marines but with Chaosy effects, Orks are the slower brutal race that get minced in solo but crush things in hordes, and Eldar being the weak but fast race (much like the typical Ranger class of an RPG). The fact that Boyz are the F2P starting class makes sense in this regard - giving free reign to the slower brutal class mean that there will be lots of Boyz, so we get the high player count for horde fighting and committing untold carnage. Orks don't really need to work together since you can just join a warband and wahey you're slaughtering people in droves along with hundreds of players. For the other races (and Orks of a higher rank) communication becomes more necessary to focus firepower or arrange tactical manoeuvres that Boyz don't really care about.
The progression sounds decent in that it's less about level and more about gear. On the other hand, I would like to know if it's standard gear everywhere or gear with extra effects ala every RPG known to Man. So there's bound to be a loot system for dropping shiny gear, with rarer/better gear left with minibosses of sorts. Having Nids as the AI race would probably mean Carnifexes, Hive Tyrants and Alpha-level beasts as said bosses. On that note - Swarmlord? Potentially one that spawns on the map in a random location and people can go after it for ultimate prizes - an end-game level boss with stupid health and damage output. Another thought - will the AI actually have some intelligence or just mill about a lot? By this I mean - will they actually pursue targets, launch raids on strongholds, attack factions in the middle of a battle. I know it'll be more difficult to implement but we'd have AI that can be a challenge instead of standing in the same areas waiting for a punch.
