While I am very excited about how they are trying to change things instead of creating another WoW clone, I find it worrying that there will be no PvE aspect at all. Well, unless tyranids will have many unique units and will prove to be more challenging to beat than one would think. Anyhow, can't wait for the game to come out, innovation is good!

Call me an Ultrasmurf one more time, I dare you.
The Emperor of Mankind wages a constant battle to protect humanity from the horrors of space. All that stand in their way are the mighty Space Marines. They are more than mortal, they are steel and they are doom. They are the champions of mankind. And the GREATEST, MOST BADASS of them all, are the ULTRAMARINES.
In honor of Captain Titus of the Ultramarines' 2nd Company, an ultramarine unlike any other - may none find him wanting for his name shall forever live in glory, till the end of days.
Titus understood that the Codex Astartes is merely a set of rules, that it is supposed to guide young initiates of the Ultramarines, to inspire honor and sacrifce amongst them. He was also aware of how blindly some of his brothers followed the said set of rules, refusing to think for themselves thus consequently failing the true test of a Space Marine. He understood, better than anyone, that Ultramarines are not without flaws and that after all they are still human in a way. While he knew all that, he also knew that despite all their imperfections, they were the humanity's only hope for survival. |

Ah, the good old "Takes a long time=difficult" fallacy.
My stance: I don't give a crap how long it takes to progress as long as the game is actually fun to play.

I have to agree - a game needs to be fun simply by playing, and levels should come "naturally" as a side-effect rather than a player's primary goal. Kind of how it works with MWO and its skill trees.
I'm not sure how prevalent this opinion is, but I find that the old psychologic trick of baiting people with levels just doesn't work as much as it used to, probably because so many games are doing it by now. Levels also make it harder to balance new against veteran players, at least if we take WoW as an example.
I have a feeling this won't be a problem here, though, if the devs take inspiration from PS2. Basically, ranking up and collecting experience to use for unlocking not necessarily more powerful but simply different options for your character.
Needless to say, veteran players will or even should rightfully always have an edge (even if it's just by unlocking options that are not necessarily flat-out better but just more suited to an individual's playstyle), but there's no need to make it too big.

i like eve online progression. You gain " exp" on skill online and offline simply waiting (who start play earlier is "stronger").
EC don't have a montly canon but this method simulate well "veteran".
this sistem have flaw obviously.

Having it so that if you start playing later than someone else, you will NEVER be as capable as them in-game... seems like a really dumb idea.

If I recall correctly, the system in EVE still requires activity, in that you cannot activate skill training without logging into your account.
That being said, I prefer PS2, which provides accounts with a low level of activity a certain amount of certs to help them stay comparable to their friends who might be able to play more often. It's a fairly negligible amount, just about enough to compensate for two or three days of inactivity until you hit the cap, but it's a fairly cool idea.

its no grinding if you just play the game how it needs to be played but have a slow levelprogress to not give you new "skills" all 30 mins

Are you planning any urban combat environments? Are there any unique features to certain levels that you'd like to talk about, like say, acid rain, or some weird atmospheric phenomenon like that? Figured that would be appropriate to ask a lead level designer

We've discussed the possibility of allowing guilds (called Strike Forces, in Warhammer 40,000: Eternal Crusade) to stake a claim on a Fortress and "own" it, but recently we're thinking that owning your own orbiting Strike Force Cruiser may fill that niche. You'll be able to customize aspects of its interior, and show off your trophies and achievements within its hallowed walls.
As far as starting campaigns against the enemy- absolutely. We want Strike Forces to be a driving force behind the player-driven war, and we intend to give them tools to make sure they can serve this purpose.

Hey Melissia! I'd love to get urban combat environments, but it's something we have to evaluate from a tech perspective. Ruined cities cost far more polygons than a blasted plain with a fortress at its center, and above all else we want to make sure our massive battles work smoothly. We'll definitely have different regions with different environments- tundra/glaciers, badlands/desert- I'd love to see Jungles if we can do it, and (as I said) I'd love to see urban settings as well. We're evaluating the cost of weather, which would include things as varied as sandstorms, rain, and radioactive fallout (for example). There will definitely be a day/night cycle, and fighting at night will be different from fighting during the day.

will leaders of factions be able to create artifects (very strong and special weapons and/or armour), that they can gift to memebers of the guild as a prize and also just to wield in battle as master crafted items with cool efects

Always nice to see more of the team take time to talk, thanks guys.
Love the idea of showcasing achievements, so perhaps things like the head of a powerful hive tyrant? Would be sweet to have a memorial to a great and harsh battle which was fought by the guild. Oh or perhaps if the dark angels suffered heavy losses for a great reward such as acquiring a key weapons factory. The war council could petition to have requisition donated to have a statue or something put up within the halls of the strike cruiser to eternalise the conflict and the achievements of those dark angels that day. I would love personalised trophies like this.
edit: Imagine a new recruit finally joining a guild and they take a walk down the halls of achievement, seeing all the statues of countless battles, both great victories and remorials for great losses. They can see the guilds history. Absoloutely love stuff like that.

Yeah, thinks that make a custody MORE of than gaining an area are amazing and really add to the feel of the game. Having a guild pouring all resources into this battle over something small in cost but of large importance to there hearts and ending up keeping it safe against all odds without any odds and then having it talked about by the whole community, the devs and a statue, banner or memorial erected in honour would be great! Automatically Appended Next Post: Also 2 big questions I've had since the announcement
1. Wil there be daemon princes? How will they be implemented?

Going back to this whole "old school grinding" and new school "game's fun to play while grinding", I'm definitely voting for the latter. That said however, there could definitely be some old school achievements like kill (and I mean this literally) 1 Million Tyranids - which could be achieved as a Strike Team. There's no cheating, no short cuts, a group of players would take months to complete the objective, and earn some rewards along the way and if they actually managed to grind their way through a literal hell (both on and off the battlefield) the squad would gain access to a legendary artifact known as a Psionic Beacon that has the peculiar ability of attracting the entire Tyranid force to a single point - once, and only once per campaign for a grand total time of an hour or less. Any other reward for old school grinding, and I'd rather have my teeth kicked in by a vicious tempered nob than even attempt it.

oh and for some later addons of this game:
let the strikeforce(guild) leadership design thair own strikecruiser (guildhall)
let them get strikeforce honorpoints by different archivments the strikeforce reaches (for example get 50 members and hold them or kill 5000 nids in 12 hours)
for this honorpoints they can "buy" additional strikecruiser-rooms, like a strikeforce council room or a celebration hall or trophy corridor (and maybe let them place objects like in sims)
could be kinda impressiv but highly unneeded for the gameplay^^
