So ... I'm a Space Wolf and Sisters of Battle player. Those are my two main armies. I have a contingent of Imperial Guard to take as allies and I know I could get flyers that way, however was there ever a reason or any speculation as to why SW can't use any flyers? I get the whole deep striking thing and the mistrust of tech, but they use Drop Pods and vehicles how is that any different from a flyer? I know the reason SoB don't have a flyer ... GW hates them, to bad I love them.
BLOB: Why didn't SW get access to a flyer?

Old codex, there was no need for them at the time of release and GW did not want to invest in a large model ( there was no stormraven yet).

Fluff reasons, IIRC, Space Wolves hate flying. Thunderhawks and Drop Pods are a necessary evil to deploy on a battlefield, but other than that, flying is stupid. I seem to recall this is the reason Blood Claws are the only ones that use Jump Packs as well, and they only do it because they're young and stupid.

Imotekh - I disagree with the old codex bit, it could have been added in with Death from the Skies
Loki - Forgot about the jump pack portion of the fluff. I suppose that could explain it

I suppose that could explain it 1. Yeah, they gave Black Templars (the oldest current codex) fliers via Death from the Skies. They could have done it for SW if they wanted them to get them. I don't buy the "old codex" reason, either. 2. In Battle of the Fang, one Blood Claw was REALLY into "Air ship" combat and flying in space and stuff. The other SW thought he was a bit daft, as I recall.

You'd think that if GW insists SW have no flyers then the would have Tau-scale anit-air options. Like cheap flakk missiles on Long Fangs or something.

Which, undoubtedly, will come in their next codex. Their lack of Skyfire access is the same as every other army right now with a 5th edition codex - flyers and Skyfire didn't exist when they were written.

Are you talking about the Mortis Pattern Contemptor Dreadnough? I'd have to look at Aeronautica, but I don't think so. The Space Wolves got their own Contemptor Dreadnought in IA1: 2nd Edition, I believe. Man I wish work would let me bring all of my 40k books with me. I mean, WTH?

My definite pet peeve with the whole addition of flyers and skyfire rules to the game. Simple FAQ solution immediately released with 6th edition: Give each codex access to an existing flyer and a skyfire unit, or 2 flyers or 2 skyfire units. Simple, easy, and not leave some armies stuck including stupid ADLs with quad cannon just to have some anti-air ability. With Death from the Skies they had a perfect opportunity to once again apply baseline rules for those forces that have no flyers or flyer defenses, but again they didn't bother.
Of course GW doesn't do such things. That would just be too simple and fair across the board. So instead some armies will wait for some time to deal with Flyers.

How is that any different from someone being a jerk and refusing to play against flyers at all (because they don't want to bring AA, or because they just hate flyers)? No matter what you buy someone can always refuse to play against you.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

I suppose you are quite true. I feel like that would be an invalid argument, compared to the FW argument (although I don't care personally, I think both sides of that argument have valid points)

Because more people refuse to play against FW than flyers. At least that's what I find. You don't absolutely need tons of AA to play against flyers, you need tons against flyer spam lists. I can't say much about tournaments, but I don't seem many spam lists because they turn into boring, one-sided matches between some guy who wants to win and some guy who was too stubborn to adapt to 6th.
Anyways, as an IG player I like the Avenger a lot, it's really capable and should be added to any Sisters list (until their update ).
